Lighs
I am able to load the Runescape client (though it takes a while), but logging in is impossible because it takes a while for each keystroke and click to register, if they do at all. In addition, if I do manage to log on it is only for a few seconds because the connection fails easily. I was away for a week and when I came back this problem had emerged- I have no idea what the cause is. RS works fine on all other computers on the same network. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?
ShaneOneill1
The first thing I would do is make sure you have updated you Java, as there have been a few Java updates recenly. You can update your Java by following this path. Please note it is for Windows XP, and is viewed in the classic view. Start>Control Panal>Java>Updates>Update Now. Hopefully that will solve your problem. If not, another common fix is deleting your temporary internet files. Again this path is for Windows XP and is in classic view: Start>Control Panel>Internet Options>Delete Temporary Internet Files. I hope one of them fix your problem. Good Luck. ;) Next TET Event: A Gnomes Dream Next TET AU Event: Guthix Vs. Zaros Pt. 2: Kidnapped!
Cruiser
If the above doesn't work, you can also try deleting the RS files folder. Deleting it will force RS to reload *everything* and may fix your problem if something got corrupted somehow. The folder you are looking for is named ".file_store_32" (yes, with a . at the beginning) and located inside your Windows folder. Copy the folder to another location before deleting it. That way you can copy it back to it original location if you brake something.
Rowntrees
Cruiser - Deleting the files in the '.file_store_32' directory can cause more harm then good, since the game engine update the game works differently. It has been advised by Jagex that the files are not moved/deleted.

Lighs
I attempted getting Java updates (I have the newest version) and deleting temporary internet files. I then tried deleting .file_store_32, while also had no discernible effect (I restored it afterwards). Neither of those worked. I hypothesized that that the problem in some way lies with my Java or internet settings (not with RS in particular), and to test that I tried to run another java-based game. That one took a long time to load as well and was too laggy to play. Could there be a problem with my settings? I tried reinstalling Java, it didn't help either. Hitman247m
One thing you could try is to open un the "C Drive" and inside of it, create a folder called "Rscache". Then, open up "Internet Explorer", press "Tools", then press "Internet Options". Once the window opens up; press "Delete Files" (remember to check in the box that says delete all offline content). Once that is done, also press "Clear History". Hopefully that should make RS run a wee bit faster, and also, when rs loads, it will automatically start cache-ing its files to the folder that you created earlier, so if you need to delete something, the RS files are by themselves :boohoo:

It has been advised by Jagex that the files are not moved/deleted. How is this any different from someone that's never played the game before? A brand new player won't have these files in the first place, so the game has to load them from scratch, just like deleting the folder causes. Jagex "advises" you don't because if everyone started reloading from scratch with each update it would cause extremely high loads on their update servers. I've done it many, MANY times over the 5+ years I've been playing with nothing ever happening. Just because someone "advises" against it doesn't mean the world will implode if you do. Lighs
Problem fixed. I have no idea how, but everything is back to normal. Basically, I tried loading RS through the tip (saving a line of code in notepad) given in the world 2 thread in General P2P, and it worked. I then tried to go to my regular world normally and it happened without a hitch. I don't know why doing the former would change anything, but I'm grateful.
