im trying to get 53 theving for desert treasure and need to find a fast and effective way to get it.

You get 750000gp from alching a Bandos Godsword. I know from experience.

it would help if you posted your theiveing level :) from level 40 just theive guards in ardgoune (sp?) and theive from the cake stall for healing purposes

I concur. I got to lvl 60 thf "relatively" fast just pickpocketing fremmy citizens and knights. This is definitely the quickest but can get a little tedious. I just set goals for myself and took a break when I was done ... ie "Get 10,000 gold" and call it quits.
