Should I keep my pure's defence at 1 and have a lower combat level or should I take it to 5 to get stell armour

I always thought steel armour was best, but the majority of pkers that I know, have 1 defence.. although when fighting another pker, who has 90 attack.. i doubt a few extra defence points from the armour would make a difference to be honest.

Keep def 1 and wear mage clothes, monk robes or leather armor. And an anti-dragon shield. Best protection from magic. At the start (below lvl 30) a lot of pkers use magic.
