~*~ How do you make money with 99 smithing?

Featured Replies

99 Smithing seems like an obvious stat to have that could make you money.. but if you dont have 85 mining, how proffitable is 99 smithing?

Level 91 smithing - PM me on these forums or add me if you want anything made.

buy rune ores for 12k ea and buy coal ores for 150 ea. as simple as that.

Retired from runescape. I will be on every now and then though. :)

Even if you don't have 85 mining, you can still make money. Buy rune ores for ~12k each, then mine 8 coal for every 1 rune ore you buy. If you don't want to mine the coal, then buy the coal. If you buy everything, and make sets of rune, you make roughly 18k per set. That's if you buy coal for 150 each and rune for 12k each, and also sell the sets for 200k each. 12k( rune ore ) + 8(150)( 8 coal ) =14k. 14k( materials) x 13( # of bars per set of armor) = 182k. 200k - 182k = 18k. If you mine the coal, you make 44k per set.

And here's me thinking that question was pretty self explanitory.

Quit RS to play real games. :P Bye TIF, miss you.

As far as coal goes...

I vote go to mining gold with all the ores you can carry, plus 1 spot for natures 1 spot for pick and carry a fire staff.

Mine 8 coal, super heat, lather rinse repeat. In long run faster than the other two ways, and trains magic.

As someone who does alot of mining, I will say this.

In theory, this works, but the fact is, the average person's brain will self implode before you can mine enough coal for 85 mining.

Also Throne of Miscellania mini game is an excellent source of coal.

If Jagex ever made a perfect update, there would be players complaining about nothing to complain about.

The problem with that is that it takes incredibly long and is worse than iron in terms of cash and exp.

Once you reach level 55 mining, you can mine iron in one hit. In my experience, that pretty much allows you to mine and bank one load every 5 minutes. At level 84 mining (dwarven stouts  ), I can expect to mine and bank one load of coal every 10 minutes at best and every 20 minutes at worst.

That means that under the best conditions, I can get two iron ores in the same time it takes to get one coal.

Every iron ore gives you 35 exp, for a total of 70 exp in the same amount of time it takes to get 50 exp from one coal. Plus, you can expect to sell iron ore for 100 each minimum while coal goes for 200 each maximum.

So if you need coal, don't mine it :)
