I'm not sure what you mean, but if you mean the part where you have to escort the NPC back to the temple of the salve, and he dies (he actually flees!), yes, you have to do it again.

 

 

 

You can supply him with food, armour and weapons if I remember correctly, look it up in the quest guide.
