60 - 70 Ranged

I am going to be making 10k iron knives soon. I have a few questions, I would appreciate it if you could answer them if know the answers.

 

 

 

Firstly, will 10k iron knives be enough 70 range assuming I pick them up when they are on the ground?

 

 

 

Secondly, are blue dragons good for training on at my level? I usually get a good amount of clues from them and the bones will be useful for prayer. The hides also bring in soem cash.

 

 

 

If blue drags aren't the way to go, what monster should I train on?

Your first question is hard to answer, here's a very, very rough estimate:

 

 

 

You get 4 range exp for each point of damage you deal.

 

Let's say you so an average of 3 points of damage per knife.

 

That's 12 range experience per knife.

 

That's 120,000 range experience.

 

 

 

But you pick up your knives. If you lose 1 knife in 4, you will have 7,500 knives left.

 

 

 

That's 90,000 range experience.

 

 

 

Keep repeating the math and you'll eventually have an answer. Feel free to adjust the average damage and/or the rate at which knives are lost.

 

 

 

Another way to get your answer is to pick the monster you will be ranging on, note your current range experience, range it the monster for an hour or so, and then see how many knives you lost versus how much experience you gained. Once you know how much ranging experience you earn per knife on the average, you will know roughly how many knives you will need to get whatever experience is necessary to get from level 60 to level 70 (and you will actually need less knives than this as you will do more damage per knife as you gain levels).

For the second part, iron knives on blue dragons at your level isn't going to work out so well. Blue dragons have pretty darned good range defense so you aren't going to hit that often. When I was your level, I used knives on the moss giants nw of Ardougne. There is a safespot there that gives you access to 4 different giant spawns, the bank isn't far away, moss giants have terrible range defense, and they drop nature runes and decent seeds.

I'd say you will probably make it with 10k knives but try it and see if you get close.

 

 

 

I wouldn't do blues because I went there with 72 range and a load of steel knives I'd found in my bank and I was hitting 0 pretty often. Moss giants, fire giants or lessers would be good.

 

 

 

Edit: By the way you can sum that geometric progression that gopitar just gave you if you lose 1 knife in 5 (what I always assume) then 1/5 = 0.2

 

 

 

so the total xp you can expect from 10k knives is 120000/0.2 = 600k
