Not enough virtual memory?

Ugh. What now!!!

Okay, I got my DVD drive and I meet all the other specs to run my games...I installed the DVD drive, installed the game and clicked to play it...Boom...

"Not enough virtual memory to run the game. Your system total paging files must amount be at least 768MB. Please consult the manual that came with your OS."

The game says I need 512MB of RAM and I have 768MB of RAM, so obviously I have enough. If "Virtual Memory" is different from RAM, the game case says nothing special about it. :-k Or does that mean total disk space? Because I'm almost positive I have more than 768MB...I just uninstalled 2 different games, one being WoW...This game is 6.5GB total and uninstalling WoW alone left me with like 12GB of space, so...

Argh. I'm frusterated. I need to learn more about computers. What the hell do I need to do now?

Thanks...

Go to start...control panel....system...then click the Advanced Tab then click settings under Preformence then click the Data Execution Prevention and read me what it says for your physical memory and how much system memory you have (press the little windows key and then press pause break and it will tell you how much system memory you have under what your processor frequency is)

setting it to just any random number isnt good. you need to base that off what his actual memory is. cause if he has 256 memory and u say put 2000mbs in there then uh....something isnt going to work right

Thats untrue, nothing bad will happen. If you have more than what you need it simply will not be used.

You are suppose to base it off of the physical memory you have. For 1gb (yes i know he has 768mb) your suppose to have 1500 (or so i have read) so its better to have more than enough.

I currently have mine set to 2000 with 1gb of ram and it never uses that much, nothing has ever happend.

Paging file is meant to be used so the operating system doesn't have to terminate applications when your memory gets full.

Those are insanely stupid values, try more like 200mb. If it goes over that, reconsider the software your using on your system, or buy some more RAM.

It's also poorly implemented in Windows, so pick your poison.

Okay I figured out how to find and change it, despite the semi-wrong directions on how to get there. :P

Funny thing is I was looking around in that menu before, I just never saw the damn thing.

I set it to 768 - 768. It was on like 346 or something, lol.

Thanks! Game booted up now. \'

Hmm I gave you the right dirrections, I found them by doing the above steps and then typing them out. Maybe I just didn't explain some of them the best i could :wall: . Oh well, you found it out anywase so thats what matters :) .

Diminished2b: How is that an isane amount. I just looked online and what I read on a couple of sites is that the page file should be 1.5 times the physical memory.

How would setting this to 200mb fix anything if she didn't have enough with 346mb?

The game booted up and ran, and I could play it and everything...But the models (Soldiers, tanks, barbedwire, pretty much everrything except the ground map itself) don't load up and you can't see them...I'm assuming that is a graphics card problem, even though it says my graphics card is good enough for it (Radeon 9500).

Ah well. I'll have to get a new damn computer someday.
