If my Computer is infected by a virus. Where does the virus end up in, the hardrive or the memory sticks?

The file itself is usually on the hard drive.

In other words, both. The file itself I guess you could say is physically on the hard drive. If the virus is active... as in its an executable file or dll injection, then it would also be in your RAM (or memory sticks as you said)

 

 

 

As soon as you turn the computer off, the RAM gets cleared... so the file would then only be on the hard drive. As soon as you turn the computer back on though, the virus would be loaded back into the RAM.

 

 

 

If you took the hard drive out and put a different one in, its not like the virus could infect you through your RAM if that's what you were getting at, though that would be a rediculous method to getting rid of a virus.

With such vague information how could we tell...? Viruses can hide anywhere really.
