~<>~Could i make a windows account with LESS priviledg

Featured Replies

Heya, So a few of you may have seen my threads about my new computer. Up and running. Working parts. A little concerned about the liteon drive (it ticks but that's not too big of a deal- i heard it's normal for drives

My question is, is there some way to limit user accounts more? I've make a 'limited access acount' but it's still rather weak and i could easy get junk on my computer using it. Downloading is possible, most things are possible even some [Caution: Executable File]s. I'm looking for some way to make an account essentially disconnected from the HDD so that i can read from it, but it can't be written too. functional, yet virus/spyware proof.

Sound sketchy doesnt it :?, But i'm just extremely paranoid and want to be able to run a limited user for the days i don't need to install anything (but dont want to use the wimpy windows limited account, if i wanted a limited account i want to go 100% rofl).

Thanks alot,

hey man doubt you can isolate to that level..

i recomend speed fan though to monitor your hard drives S.M.A.R.T. status..

this would help give some warning about drives going bad.

The following statement is true. The previous statement is false. 60% of all statistics are made up 90% of the time

andrew i love you & want you to have my babys!!! <3:

Finally, I get to save the Earth with deadly lasers instead of deadly slide shows!

Are you running Windows XP?

If so then try the Shared Computer Toolkit from Microsoft.

As well as giving you a large amount of software restrictions it also includes Windows Disk Protection, which undoes changes your to hard drive each time you restart the computer.

Basically what you want is a clean slate loader.

You can set it up to preserve certain files and settings, and dump the others. This is what a lot of LAN centers and Schools use so people can't install unwanted / malicious programs on their computers.

Essencially all it does is delete any file not under the "ok" file list, hence clean slate... so you could install windows, install your games and what not, and then put clean slate on there. Tell it to keep all your game files and whatnot, and then when you log off / shut down, it automatically clears anything that wasn't saved...

Now your saying "what if I want to save a cool pic" well luckily you can set up folders that are completly unaffected by this as well - so for instance, you could make a folder like C:/Junk and whenever you download or find something nifty, put it in there for the time being.

Actually it can do a ton of stuff, I had the changc to check it out upon 'finding' the password to our school's cleanslate admin panel.

Hmm....Thanks it sounds good, I'll try and look into them later tonight.

other wise, you could set up a seperate account using the "administrator" account and then limit the privilages of that user, but I don't think that is what you wanted, it's not as effective.

Aye, exactly, it's not enough. I've yet to try the other ideas. Cleanslate sounds brilliant, although i am cheap =D i'm going to try to look for something similar
