November 9, 200619 yr Recently, we've had a lot of corrupt links posted by brand new users, tricking our users into clicking the bad link to activate a keylogger on the link. May I suggest that we figure out a way to limit new users for uploading links if possible? Is there ANY way to make it not so easy for someone to set up a new account, and on the same day, post a keylogger on these forums with 1 post count? A circus in Runescape?? Oh my. November 9, 200619 yr i understand where that's coming from, but i'm not forum designer or mod or anything of course. But that really is getting annoying, and it can be disguised as like "my blog" or something like that. The only way i can think of is not let any person with less than 100 so posts make a link, but you can always get around it.... November 9, 200619 yr Yes, people who want to spam the boards with the nasties manage to get the links up until we can censor the URLs and kick the users off the forums. Some users flood the forums with multiple posts but I think you'll find that they are moved off the public boards rather quickly. A lot of that depends on you (all) reporting them. The drawback to not allowing links for users under suchandsuch number of posts is that it would also include image links. Please, please, please, continue to report suspicious links. November 9, 200619 yr What you're proposing would take some serious modifications for little gain IMO. If users have the most recent version of their operating system and web browser, as well as an up-to-date firewall and antivirus, someone can't put a keylogger on their computer just by getting them to click a link. They have to click the link, download the file, run the file, have it be not noticed by their antivirus (unlikely) and then grant it access through their firewall. If users are going to click on suspicious-looking links to sites they don't know and download and run executable files, or run out of date software, they're demonstrating a serious desire to access this file - having them need to copy and paste the url into their address bar first of all isn't going to stop them - they're on a mission of stupidity. As Ard_Choille said, reporting these posts ASAP usually gets them dealt with in a timely manner. Where the bloody hell are you?
