(This tut is for adobe photoshop 7)

Open a new document; choose a size,

white background and black foreground.

Filter>Render>Clouds

Filter>Render>Different Clouds

Tap Control-F to repeat til one that

looks good comes up.

Control-I to invert (image>adjustments>invert)

Control-L for levels (image>adjustments>levels) -- use these settings:

(numbers left to right): 0 - 1,10 - 255

This is a pretty good lightning scene, yes?

Control-B for colourize (numbers left to right): 0, 40, 100. (you can choose another color combination, this is the one I use)

Repeat this step once more.

Control-J to duplicate layer > set blend mode to 'lighten';

Control-E to merge the two layers.

Control-J to duplicate layer > set blend mode to 'lightning';

Filter>Disort>Twirl; angle at 200.

Control-E to merge the two layers.

Control-J to duplicate layer > set blend mode to 'lightning';

Filter>Disort>Twirl; angle at -400.

Control-E to merge the two layers.

That's it. You can make it some darker by repeating this step: Control-B for colourize (numbers from left to right) 0 40 10. (you can choose another color combination, this is the one I use)

interesting tutorial. This could be of some help in an abstract piece, maybe set it over your abstract, and use layers like overlay and stuff, could turn out nice :D
