If you have over 50 range, you can upgrade it to the Ava's Accumulator, which picks up steel things. Ontopic: The accumulator is extremely useful, I was using it while ranging bloodvelds and I can tell it saves bunchs of time. And the quest is really easy, just a bunch of running.
