This is only my second story here, but it's been placed in many other forums, namely Sal's, RuneHQ, the official RuneScape boards, Neoseeker, and my website once Comcast works again. (No offense meant at all. This is my favorite fansite of all, though I could care more about the forum. I only posted it on all those forums because I need as much C&C as I can get. =P~ ) It took me over 50 hours to write, so although there are probably some errors in phrasing, and my mom noticed the occasional left out word, I don't expect it to have nearly enough gaping holes to trigger incomprehension.

This is a sequel to The Saga of Sir Ranous, posted a few minutes previous to this story on this forum. Please note that although both of these stories have many of the same characters, and are posted at the same time, they are NOT the same story. They have completely different plots, quality of writing, and themes.

Also, this story originally had The Old Nite in it, as the kidnapped person. Especially at the end, the tale is seriously damaged by his mandatory removal. (If I missed replacing his name anywhere, notify me or have a mod change it themselves; please don't delete this. :( ) In fact, this story is, in a way, a tribute to his memory, not a silly "OMG i jst saw [insert famous person's name]" story, which I suspect was the type of thing that prompted the rule. I'm sure it was also designed to protect the player's privacy, but as he's dead (which I actually regret, having read the Tip.It Times article), that hardly applies. If a mod could give me permission to bring him back in, I'd be overjoyed to comply as soon as I get the message. \' As it is, feel free to think "*you know who*" when confronted with the name Azziem if you wish. (I also included a name, "Yeoldgeezer," which is meant to be a parody of the stupidity of most RuneScape characters' names. However, to the best of my knowledge it isn't an actual person.)

Feel free to take a break if the story is too long for you to read in one sitting. It probably is, in fact. However, shortening it would only damage the overall quality, and there's no law saying anyone has to read the entirety of any story published here. :)

This tale is based on a specific time period in RuneScape history, namely April - June 2001. As very few people know what updates took place at that time, I hope it won't spoil the surprise. I will stress that this is *very* loosely based on RuneScape's updates, and it isn't simply a linear, boring discussion of what happened when various updates were released, supposedly "in" a computer game. This is the real thing. If you don't like it, please read it through anyway, or at least as far as you can bear to. If you don't like it then, politely tell me what is wrong with it and I'll be happy to change it when I write a new story. Whatever you do, don't wantonly flame me.

For those who don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t know RuneScape that well, I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve included maps at the end of each section to show Ranous̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åtravels.̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

Suddenly, a previously unnoticed slender blade dived between two normal Black Knights to gouge a wide slash through The Old Nite̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s unprotected thigh, causing severe bleeding. With a cackle, the leader of the troops (Daquarius̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s lieutenant, Blogshot) edged between his two soldiers and grabbed The Old Nite̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s shoulders, dragging him between his men, who parted for him like human curtains. With a squad of sixteen of his best men, six of them splashed with the enchanted potion, Blogshot burst through the thin line of White Knights, still carrying the fallen Champion. Five of the good knights, more foolish than the rest, tried to follow, but all fell dismally to the ground before the coal-black blades of the kidnappers.

With a cry of fury, Ranous flung himself upon the thinnest part of the dark horde, slashing wildy at all in his path. He hadn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t come this far and endured this much pain, merely to be thwarted at the last moment! The line of Black Knights nearest to the cliff was only four thick, due to the fact that only 250 knights remained. He swung his brilliant green sword violently back and fourth, killing all in his path instantly. The obsidian-colored metal, stronger than steel, shattered before the might of his swing and his adamantine sword. Dashing over the senseless bodies of his enemies, he ducked one of the other nearby Black Knight̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s swings. Another slashed him across the calf, opening a wide but shallow gash and nearly hamstringing him. He sprinted away from the battling armies, ignoring the pain, and could just barely make out Blogshot and his subordinates dragging The Old Nite̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s weakly struggling body around the corner of the cliff. Ranous gnashed his teeth and sped up, vowing to catch them.

But they were too far ahead. By the time he raced around the corner of the cliff he had spotted them at, they were nearly out of sight again, clambering up a low point in the cliff in the distance. The leader was brutally bumping The Old Nite̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s body against the protruding stones. Ranous smiled, even as he winced as his friend took the bumps. The cliff would slow them; even with his calf, Ranous was strong and agile enough to scale a cliff as well as the best of them, and the act of carrying his poor friend would severely slow the group. He had no idea how he would overpower the whole group, but he vowed to try as he sprinted all-out to reach the cliff face.

By the time he had covered half the distance to the fleeing Black Knights, they had reached the top, and surprisingly turned back towards the fight as they continued their flight. Not stopping to wonder at this odd development, Ranous veered off towards the nearest part of the sheer rock wall, intending to meet them. Noting they had no bows, and knowing that Black Knights rarely, if ever, carried spell runes, he dared to taunt them.

̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅHah! Feeble knights,̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

Some of the best Runescape Writing in all of the forums. I've only read parts one and two but this is great stuff. Very interesting and nicely done. There's a lot of ehh...not so good stuff in the forum and I would advise people to read this above all the Runescape stories.

Part Five: A Treasured Friend

The sun set on another lazy day. The two men on the huge fishing dock pulled out two sleeping bags, grumbled about the day̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s catch, munched on a few fresh, roasted swordfish, and went to sleep. Until recently there had been nothing to eat but a few shrimp, anchovies, and the occasional tuna, but over the past few days a school of swordfish had passed by the dock, and the fishermen had seized their chance. The moon rose and set, like the men had seen so many times over the past two weeks, and finally the bright light of dawn streaked over the eastern horizon, heralding yet another new day.

Ranous yawned, stretched, and crawled out of his sleeping bag. It was nearly summer, and the balmy, subtropical sun shining down on them gave a great deal of warmth even at the crack of dawn. He grabbed his fishing pole, staggered over to the edge of the dock and reigned himself to another long, fruitless day of fishing. His snoozing companion, Redbeard Frank, had repeatedly assured him that somewhere right off this dock was a huge metal ring disguised as a normal section of the ocean floor. If they could only find it, the eccentric pirate continually lamented, then the Ark of Zamorak̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s vault would be discovered and they would be able to swim down, pry it open, and somehow drag the Ark out onto the dock where they could read the map to the demonic temple.

Ranous shuddered. He had heard about demons from his mother, and what he had heard was not comforting. Imps were the pettiest of the demons: even his mother could have easily defeated one in combat, though they were hard to catch, and their main deadliness was in thievery. He thought back fondly to the day when he had killed an imp thief in the Wizard̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Tower and recovered a wizard named Mizgog̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s precious beads; it was almost a pleasure to kill an imp, if you were fast enough to catch it before it escaped.

Other demons, however, were different. Far more powerful demons, called ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Ålesser̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
