February 23, 200719 yr WOOOT!! I got a Xbox 360 for Christmas, and I was super excited for mad graphics and Xbox Live. I instantly got on the computer, set up my name and everything. Connected to the modemn and everything. Well, says it can't connect. I test the connection through the Live menu, says it can't find the IP address. Now, I'm not computer wiz at all, so the only thing I could think of doing was getting a router, and maybe then it would read my PC's IP? I really don't have the money for a router, and mom and pop do not want to spend on it either. I'm just wondering if it is something i am doing wrong, or if it can be fixed. Thanks
February 24, 200719 yr Author Someone just suggested resetting the modemn when switching from the PC to the 360. Does this sound like a possible solution?
February 24, 200719 yr Did you follow the instructions that came with the Xbox or did you just plug it in and try to go? This KB page may be helpful. This list of help pages may also be useful.
February 24, 200719 yr when i had a regular xbox with xbox live, i just called the 1800 number on the card for the subscription, and they solved that exact same problem for me. too bad i don't remember what i did. :(
February 24, 200719 yr Author I called the 800 number, they said that because my phone is also going through the modemn, it blocks the Xbox Live from connecting. They said to change the MTU setting to about 1500, anyone know how to do that?
February 24, 200719 yr Author I'm hooked up through cable, not dsl :| . --------------- Also, I just called my cable company and they said I would have to upgrade my "plan" if that's what you want to call it. It would cost an extra $10 a month. So, no-can-do on that one. -------------- I also called Xbox, and they said that I would have to increase my MTU to 1500. To do this I would have to upgrade my cable "plan". (Read above) Guess I'm not going to be playing much Live. :(

February 25, 200719 yr Another note, if your ISP is actively blocking services to charge you extra for them, it's time to find a new provider. Just about any modern DSL or Cable line is fast enough to handle live and is no different than you downloading something over that same line. Providers charging based on how you use your line suck.
