Ok, so I want to learn how to play an electric guitar.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was wondering if the kind bunch here could give me an idea of what guitar to get to start with.

Well, if you just want to play, there's loads to choose from.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A lot of people recommend Fender Squier starter packs. They're cheap and give you a semi-decent guitar and an amp.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I had one, and it wasn't bad at all really for a start. When you feel more confident and want to take it further invest in a better amp. The guitars in those starter packs can actually be okay, take them to your local guitar shop and they can tweak and modify them a bit fairly cheaply for you. The amps are pretty crappy though, invest in a better amp and it'll sound a lot better.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Buy a capo as well, they're handy for playing a lot of easy chords.

Ill have a look at them properly but the price shocked me :lol: I always thought would be alot more.

Regardless of what kind of music you'd like to play, I always recommend that potential guitarists try to learn on an acoustic. I, at least, found acoustic guitars more difficult to play at first because of the higher action and bulkier body. Once you've gotten the general swing of introductory guitar playing on an acoustic, an electric should prove to be no problem at all.

Starter packs are the way to go if you're jumping in with no previous guitar experience and just want something to get you started. If you stick with it, you'll be wanting to upgrade both your guitar and amp though after a while though.

 

 

 

Have you considered buying a second hand guitar? There are some real bargains out there on Ebay and in guitar shops.

Yeah ive had a look on Ebay and the prices are pretty good and some of the stuff looks worth getting.

Like stated before, it really depends on what you want to play. IMO, you should get a starterpack. They are around $100-200. You can get a somewhat decent guitar, but the amp will crap out after a few months By that time you will know if you are serious about the guitar.

Then move onto The Beatles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then move onto Dragonforce.

... anyway, I started off with the same Squier pack that was aforementioned. The action is good for a beginner to learn with, and although the sound isn't the greatest, it's not like you're going to be sounding like David Gilmour in your first years anyway.

hmm, well i started out with a Ashton kit, and i guess some songs to start on (dont ask i havent played in a year, ive been needing to) are songs with a steedy beat and the tunes arent so shuffled which reminds me, i have to replace the 1st string.... oh and amps can last a while, my midget 1 has been thru a flood, and i threw it at the fence when i found out i lost a bet of $20 lol good times... :P

The reccomendation to go with a starter pack is a safe bet to start out with I'd say. I started out with a $600 ish combo which could have been costly if I didn't keep playing. 4 or so years later and I have an Ibanez s-470 and Line 6 spider. If you get into it you'll never look back and get a huge sense of satisfaction out of it. At least that's what I've found.
