  1. I think it's best to start by looking at the history of pures (or what i think it is :D ). There was once a group of pkers who wanted more out of the wilderness, a way to have more fun and excitement. So they invented 1def pures. With the fact that they couldn't wear any good armor or defend themselves, they could have faster more rushing battles. When 2 pures fought each other they would both hit high, not have the ability to safe because they are constantly being damaged, and be able to k.o. easily. Thus the result would be a face paced battle that, to some people, is a lot of fun. But then one day somebody thought that a pure could be used to easily defeat a normal character with the thought that defense levels weren't really that effective. They also thought that since they could lower their combat level, thinking that def levels meant little, they could kill easier. The modern mislead pure is born and everything goes downhill from there. They seem to have forgotten that pures (from what i know) were once meant to fight other pures. In truth def pures with high range or magic could probably beat a 1 def pure any day.
  2. The way I see it, more people use melee then range or magic. So Jagex thinks: more people do melee so they should get more updates to satisfy more people, so we can make money! This is perfectly acceptable as they are trying to run a successful business. I also find it ironic that your pic is that of a darkbow hitting very very high.
  3. I thought getting 99 str or atk was just logic because if you can hit higher you can usually get faster xp. I'm not into the whole def noob thing though, especially during pvp. If they cant hit me, maybe they are atk noobs :
  4. I think all forms of combat have their advantages and disadvantages but i guess that's why people make hybrids ;).Meele gets many updates. This gives them many choices of equipment but they all have one key weakness, the inability to hit more then 1 or 2 squares. Any ranger or mage with a brain will keep the pointy gs or dscim away from their soft man flesh :D . This means smart use of movement stopping spells for mages and ambushes/blitz's for rangers will help them prevail. Mages, I think, complain because of lack of updates rather then mage being underpowered. Even with my ags I still tremble at the sight of the dreaded purple cross on a stick in castle wars :? . Mage does have the troubling issue of having almost no defense against rangers though. Rangers are pretty much more powerful(damage wise) versions of mages. I think range is a pretty balanced fighting style. They have armor with decent defense stats and decent damage output, exception being the darkbow. They take a bit of meele( damage output and armor rating) and a bit of mage( attack range) and stuff it together into a well rounded package. This does have the disadvantage of rangers not being top notch in either armor, attack range and damage though. But like I said in the first paragraph, use a mix of combat styles to cover their weaknesses and strengthen their advantages.
  5. Although this doesn't make much logical sense i'd prefer the dragon plate. Not because it looks cool but for the minor convineance of not having to repair them. I know the price of barrows armor is negligiable compared to the 30mil it takes to purchase a dragon plate, but i have this strange feeling in me that just hates repairing items. This strange feeling :? compels me to avoid degrading equipment.
