Necromancer_Magic
Hi, As you have have become aware, Msn recently did a "Force Update" [hide=Microsoft Security Bulletin] Executive Summary This important security update resolves a publicly disclosed vulnerability in MSN Messenger and Windows Live Messenger. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution when a user accepts a webcam or video chat invitation from an attacker. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of the affected system. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights. Customers using MSN Messenger 7.0.0820 or Windows Live Messenger 8.1 are not affected by this vulnerability. For more information, see the subsection, Affected and Non-Affected Software, in this section. For more information about the vulnerability, see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) subsection for the specific vulnerability entry under the next section, Vulnerability Information. Recommendation. Microsoft recommends that customers using MSN Messenger 6.2 and MSN Messenger 7.0 on Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 upgrade to MSN Messenger 7.0.0820 at the earliest opportunity. Customers on other supported Windows platforms, running MSN Messenger 6.2, MSN Messenger 7.0, MSN Messenger 7.5, or Windows Live Messenger 8.0, should upgrade to Windows Live Messenger 8.1 at the earliest opportunity. [/hide] NOTE: Doing the following Will Make your computer more vulnerable. Why? you ask, well there is a certain Popular Add-on, called Messenger Plus which has features that are not compatible with MSN LIVE, or some people just dont happen to like MSN LIVE. The process to do this is simple: 1) Sign Out and Close MSN 2) My Computer - Type in the Address bar: "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger" 3) Right click The MSN [Caution: Executable File] File (which is normally called msnmsgr[Caution: Executable File]) 4)select properties -> Compatibility Tab 5) Tick the Box "Run this program in compatibility Mode For:" 6) Then Choose from the Drop Down Box "Windows 2000" 7) Hit "Apply" NOTE: After completing the process you will have a slightly pixelated MSN Icon. After completing the process you will be vulnerable to the Webcam Chat Hackers, ONLY ACCEPT WEBCAM FROM PEOPLE YOU TRUST! I Will understand if you delete this, as it may pose a security threat, but i thought i may as well add it for people who really want MSN 7.5 Back. ~! Necro !~ Joined Runescape: 23/01/02 |||. Mercifull
Or you could download the latest version of MsgPlus and get those features back? Necromancer_Magic
Or you could download the latest version of MsgPlus and get those features back? Due to the new features MP! decided not to include their features of the same item, but due to MSN LIVE renaming EVERYTHING about your contact it becomes exedingly annoying, so people want to downgrade and MP!3 is the newest, best thing. Or just use one of these.
