  1. It'll be unforgivable for Torres to go to Chelsea, though it looks as if that will be the way of things. It's a real shame. I can understand his desire to win trophies but his timing seems odd and to leave us so close to the end of the window is not very classy at all. I really thought he was a red through and through.

Football is a funny old thing. Some guy you never met decides to play for another team and it feels as though you've been stabbed in the back by a friend.

  2. Speaking of the aforementioned creative writing class, I need to do some work for mine. My grade continues to drop, which isn't good since it's at something like a 23% right now. It's a great class, I just can't be creative that often. I don't know how anyone could be, for me I can only write when I get inspiration.

I feel the same way about all writing. It's no fun when it's forced, and I hate feeling like the things I write will be judged and analyzed.

Writers force themselves to write. The whole notion of 'writing when inspired' is the naive dream of a novice. Writing pages and pages of crap is essential.

  3. I'm a bartender. It's probably the best job I've ever had. The pay is terrible, but I get to meet interesting people and drunk women. Very rarely do I meet an interesting drunk woman.

  4. I finished Demons/The Possessed by Dostoyevsky last week, which was another excellent book. I believe I have read all of his novels now.

I read The Snows of Kilimanjaro and Other Short Stories, Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises, The Old Man and the Sea, Death in the Afternoon and A Moveable Feast all by Hemingway over the last few weeks.

The Myth of Sisyphus again by Camus.

Finnegan's Wake by Joyce, which was a love/hate experience.

A man after my own heart. Though I do notice a lack of For Whom The Bell Tolls, which is my favourite Hemingway novel after The Sun Also Rises. Demons is very close to Dostoevsky's best (second only to The Brothers Karamazov and perhaps The Idiot), and is supplemented nicely by The Myth of Sisyphus.

  5. My dad was an alcoholic who left when I was 8. He's sorted himself out now and I meet him for lunch occasionally. My mother is an angel.

Everyone's parents mess them up on at least some level. Phillip Larkin puts it well in 'This Be The Verse'.

They [bleep] you up, your mum and dad.

They may not mean to, but they do.

They fill you with the faults they had

And add some extra, just for you.

But they were [bleep]ed up in their turn

By fools in old-style hats and coats,

Who half the time were soppy-stern

And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.

It deepens like a coastal shelf.

Get out as early as you can,

And don't have any kids yourself.

Considering purchasing these bad boys. I love them (as I do most Chelsea boots), but the heel is bigger than I'm used to. Decisions decisions.

  7. Shaky goaly? Is this the only match you have seen of us?

Agreed. Stekelenburg might not be the most reputable goalkeeper but he's had a damn good tournament. Forlan's goal was certainly down to bad goal keeping, but when you look at the save Stekelenburg made from Kaka's attempt in the Brazil game you can't deny his talent.
