The insurgents just want their own country, they want freedom from an occupying force that they percieve as evil. The insurgents are coming from a minority who are afraid that in a Democratic Iraq they will not have the fair voice that they should be entitled too. Convert the world to Islam? What is wrong with that? Christianity and Islam are both proselytic, their goal is to convert the world to their faith.
