Group stages over and imo all the best teams have made it through. Some great matches in the last 16. Looking forward to Germany vs England and Spain vs Portugal especially.

What a game that was... I thought Italy might just pull it off right at the end.

USA almost screwed out of the World Cup by another good goal disallowed. Also England looked a lot better today, granted they were playing against Slovenia. Gerrard and Rooney should have scored. If we play like we did today, that's not very likely. Btw if you're American, that comment applies more to you. He's Scottish (I think). :razz:

Damn, should have seen another high scoring match. A lot of over hit balls. I really hope Torres finds his form before the knock out rounds. Still not sure Spain will qualify. If they manage to beat Chile (will need better finishing than today for that) and the Swiss beat Honduras, 3 teams will be on 6 points.

Does Kaka get suspended for 1 match or 2 for that?

The NZ goal looked offside, so the bad penalty call canceled that out. Also, these refs love handing out cards.

It would go down to goal difference, which at the moment England and USA are tied on. But if they both draw in their next match, that would mean they both have a 0 goal difference... When goal difference is the same for two teams the next thing they look at is who scored more goals overall. As it stands England are going to be knocked out.

Heh, Rooney having a go at the English supporters for booing them off the pitch. I'll still be surprised to see the US or England not make it out of the group. Some very surprising results today though (some of them thanks to bad refereeing).

Well done Mexico. The Mexico-Uruguay game should be interesting, if they decide to play out a draw they'll both get out of the group for sure.

What a goal by Maicon!!!! Most entertaining match so far for me. NK has been surprisingly impressive, Portugal and Ivory Coast won't have an easy time against them.

Besides the Germany match all the scores have had two or less goals, and 10 games have played so far. So that's 9/10 about. :razz: EDIT: I heard, at this point, it's the lowest scoring World Cup ever.

What's up with all these low scoring matches?? 9 out of 10 matches have had 2 goals or less. I'm wondering if the combination of the new light ball and high altitude have anything to with it.

I was going to make a team before but there were so many injuries happening to star players I thought I'd make the team later. :P

Steven Gerrard to captain England now hmm.. Shame about Drogba, was hoping to see a non European/South American team do well.

Amazing really... Ibra reduced to a bench warmer and the strong possibility of Cesc joining them not to mention any other surprise summer transfers for the Spanish top 2. The starting line-ups for El Classico will be a who's who of the world's best. Gotta agree with OldJoe though, Real and Barca finished like 24 points or something ahead of Valencia (3rd place) and next year the rest of La Liga is going to be even weaker.

Everton would have very much been in the race for 4th this season if it wasn't for their injuries imo. Next year will only be harder to get 4th with Man City most probably going to break more records in the transfer market. Hopefully for Spurs they do well in the qualifiers and at least get through to the groups. They'll not be seeded so can face some tough teams to qualify. However, looking at the points table it's still possible for them to come in 3rd so they wouldn't have to worry about not qualifying anyway. As a Liverpool fan I'm just glad this awful season is over... bring on the World Cup. :grin:

He might even go down as the greatest of all time, who knows. I mean the guy's only 22, can't imagine what he'll be at his peak. I guess how he does at World Cups will have a huge say in his legacy. I hope with Maradona in charge he doesn't ruin it.
