  1. If you have done Swan Song, I found the ones outside the entrance to the Piscatoris Fishing Colony to be pretty fast. No one is ever there as well.
  2. -I do use Genie lamps, and I do keep all the gems I get, not sure how that is a bad idea. I felt that 26 box traps was excessive, if you don't then bring a full inventory of them. (BTW, still have lost zero traps from 63-79 hunting) -My comment on Red Salamanders was in reference to leveling from 59-63, although, they are indeed faster XP even at 63 and remain so until about 74. I too caught Red Chinchompas from 63 on (currently 79), because I need the money. I assume we are catching Chinchompas for the same reason, money. -Not sure what the last comment was about, but if you are saying that each person has their own preference, I agree, and use whatever strategies you feel are best. I only provided my opinions based on the facts that I have collected. I felt this was the best written guides of the hunting guides I had seen, which is why I felt like I should reply to this one instead of the other ones, hoping my ideas would help others using this guide.
  3. Interesting, I lost 3 nets once for the Evil Twin, but I have not yet lost a box trap. Not that I am complaining because I seem to be getting mostly Genie Lamps and gems. I will concede that salamanders, grey chinchompas, and kebbits are pretty close together in terms of xp per hour, particularly at the sub 60 level, so it would be a matter of personal preference. I personally found red salamanders to be quite a bit easier, as the 4 trees are in a known place, the traps set faster than boxes and the kebbits requires a lot more clicking and chasing. I would suggest between 50 - 63 to try a little of each and sticking with what is the most comfortable for you.
  4. A couple of things - Bringing 26 box traps for Chinchompas is a horrible idea. You will be getting random events every 5 minutes or so, and unless you don't like collecting the gems or genie lamps (gained 2 runecrafting levels while hunting chinchompas) bringing so many traps doesnt make any sense. I bought 6 back at level 27 when I started trapping Ferrets and I havent lost any traps EVER all the way to 76. - I question your timing you used comparing red salamanders, grey chinchompas, and spotted kebbits. I noticed that you are still only level 60 hunter, so I was wondering if you tested these numbers yourself for a full 10k XP on each, or took the numbers from somewhere else. I fully contend (and I am not the only one) that Red Salamanders are POSITIVELY the fastest hunter XP in the game, until level 80 when you can place 5 traps down for Red Chinchompas. - I assure you, I have tried every possible way to hunt, I have deadfalled, teased, tracked, snared, trapped, netted and caught imps in a box. While I concede I don't know everything about hunting, I know more now at 76 than I did at 60.
  5. Sorry to hear about your situation, I was wondering about the circumstances around you getting hacked. I have seen guys lately that have been hacked. Could you tell me how it happened? Did you fall for a password scam or download something that contained a keylogger? I am genuinely interested so that I don't ever end up in the same boat. I just recently installed a bank pin, and I think that would be a good idea for anyone.
  6. I wanted to say that this for once is a very readable and well written guide. A couple of things that I might throw in for your consideration are the following: - At 47, I switched to Orange Salamanders. They seemed at the time to be alot faster than Falconry. The downside is that they are in the desert and you have to watch your waterskins. I personally took 5 and knife with me, and whenever I got down to 2 full skins. I would release my inventory of Sallys, and cut cacti until I was full again. It provided a nice break, and to be honest, you can do 47-53 in one sitting, it is that fast. - At 53, I stuck with Grey Chinchompas to until 59. I caught about 1600 of them or so. The price you can get for Grey Chins are very volatile, but I sold them in two chunks, 500 for 500 each or 250k. And the remainder for 700k. To me, that money was worth the extra time spent gaining XP. There is a market for Grey Chinchompas, as guys that are creating pure rangers can use the Grey's to skyrocket from 45 to 55 (the level they can use their Red Chinchompas) - At 59, I went over to the Red Salamanders. In my opinion, this is the fastest hunting XP (until possibly 80 hunter with 5 traps on Red Chinchompas). Setting net traps are much faster than setting boxes, and they fail a lot less. Of course, the downside is the occasional purging of your inventory. To me, the speed from 59-63 was worth the trouble. - At 63, I went to Red Chinchompas. One thing that has to be mentioned, you will be very discouraged at the amount of Chins you will be catching at first. Probably not much more than 150 per hour. Some even advocate waiting until 74 hunter if speed is outweighing money. I am at 76 hunter now, and I estimate I am catching between 200-240 an hour. Still not insanely fast, but decent cash for leveling a skill. Hope some things that I have learned so far, might be useful for someone reading this guide.
  7. Depending on your prayer level, they general heal one point more of prayer per does. However, if you are going to use Sara Brews, you would need one dose of Super Restore per 2 doses of Sara. So, if you brought 4 Saras, I would bring 2 Super Restores. The rest could be prayers depending on skill level/prayer level.
  8. Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but you can switch to regular armor/weapons after you enter the final cave for the 160 hellhound. It makes the final fight a lot easier as the hellhound rips through ghostly robes pretty easily. Also, don't forget to bring the severed leg with you, it is the key to the final room.
  9. In the quest requirements it says spear better than Iron. I can't seem to smith a spear, could someone tell me if a store sells spears, or a monster that drop them quickly. Thanks in advance. Hutchdown
  10. There is no safe spot to attack Jad. You can use the Italy rock to hide from him, but you won't be able to attack him. In fact if you right click attack Jad from the safe spot, you will come reeling around the italy rock to take a shot. In summary, you will have to master prayer switching to kill Jad.
  11. I have the Crystal Saw +3, I have a Butler with Teak Shelves for the +3 Tea, and I have done Recipe for Disaster and can make spicy stews. So, my question is, do all three boosts stack? If not what is the highest possible boost? And does spicy stew do +5 or +6 max. Thanks in advance for the info.
  12. Personally, anything that requires me to be distracted from Jad, I am against. The eagle eye will require you to drink prayer restores more often and could lead to a bad prayer switch. I didn't have it on, but it might make you kill him faster.
  13. I probably took about 15 or so attempts at Jad, before I finally got it down. Easily have spent 10M or so on it, and the countless hours, about 2.5 per run. Unfortunately, the only way to practice on Jad, is by practicing on Jad. However, I will say, that fighting Jad, so far has been the most exciting and challenging thing I have found so far in Runescape, and getting the fire cape is definitely my biggest and most gratifying achievement yet. Also, you can just look write the cost of the fight caves off as expensive ranging XP.
  14. I just got my firecape, after a couple weeks of non stop tries thanks to techniques presented by Muggiwhplar. I thought I might toss out a few thoughts that I had for anyone in my similar skill level to help them out. First off, thoroughly understand this map from muggi's low defense guide All monsters, including Jad follow this spawn pattern. So when you get to difficult levels, ie 180 and a 90, or 360 and a 90. You better be parked in the NE corner utilizing the italy rock. About 80% of the time, if you are in the safe spot and wait for 30 seconds the monsters will get trapped below the italy rock. 10% of the time they will spawn in the blue spot (middle) and will walk to your safe spot. Not much to do here, if it is a 180 run to the south side of the italy rock and he will get trapped on the west side. The other 10% of the time they will spawn in the red spot (NW Corner) If it is a monster you want to face last run to the south side of the italy rock and they will be trapped on the north side. Some quick hits: - If you have Guthans, wear the plate and skirt while ranging the 90's, they hit a lot less than if you were wearing your black d hide. - If you are doing the double crystal bow method, learn about how many 360's you can kill before it degrades (probably between 2-4, depending on your range) then you can plan when to switch to your low bow for the degrade. - I suggest using Prayer pots over Sup Restore pots if you can, they cost less, and if you are 38 herblore, you can make them yourself, at least recouping some herblore xp for the cost of a Ranarr. At 60 prayer, i always had plenty of prayer pot left over. JAD: - Realize that the first couple of times that you see Jad, you are likely going to die. Knowing this ahead of time will keep you from jumping off a cliff. Your prayer switching practice is nice, but it doesnt replace the real thing. - If you get hit for about 50 by Jad because of a bad prayer switch, dont freak out, if you remain calm you can recover. - When you first get to Jad, do nothing but watch his feet and switch prayers, even if you don't attack him for a few rounds. Calming yourself, and getting used to the rhythm of the prayer switching is more important than hitting him right away. - Don't freak out when the healers come, stay in your prayer switching rhythm, and after a switch calmly click a healer for an attack; also, make sure auto retaliate is off for the healers (I left it off the whole Jad sequence which requires you to right click and reattack Jad after every prayer switch and potion drink) - I wouldn't bother going to a safe spot to deal with the healers, as long as you have some Sara left and plenty of prayer, the healers wont kill you. - You only have time for one event between Jad's attacks, so plan ahead, and right click a healer, or drink a prayer pot, or drink a sara in between his attacks, always bring the prayer screen back up, and always hovering over the opposite prayer protection (IE Mage, if you have Range on) - For me, it seemed like the time to remove Jad's 2nd half of health took twice as long as the first half, probably not, but don't freak out if it feels like it is taking too long, focus on the prayer switch and keep nailing him. - Definitely use Steel skin with the healers, as they hit a lot less with it on, and you will have plenty of prayer drinks left. That is all I can think of at the moment, sorry to invade the thread, but I thought, some of the mistakes I have made might help future capers. If you have any questions for a guy of my stats, 93 CMB, ask away as I check tip.it quite often. Have fun in the caves. Hutchdown
