  1. You missed one of the points I was trying to make Qeltar. Jagex doesn't care about existing players. They want new players. They need to make the game as 'sticky' as they can, and by sticky, I mean make a game that holds people for as long as they can, before those people either lose interest in gaming (the few), or move on to a better game (the many). Better graphics accomplish this goal. No PKing accomplishes this goal. No trash talking accomplishes this goal. No merchanting (trade limits) accomplishes this goal. Look at it as if Runescape is to MMOs as tobacco is to drugs. Runescape is the gateway drug of MMOs. Not many people who start RS end up playing the game for the long haul. Most move on to WoW, AOC, LOTRO, and DDO just to name a few. I had an entire clan I was in move to LOTRO in the space of 3 months, and most of those guys were level 126 maxed out toons. (sadly in the near future people are going to ask why 126 was maxed out).
  2. I wrote the following article for my blog, and though I would post it here as well It seems to be along the same lines as a lot of the commentary here. Enjoy. The new tipit Times article prompted me to write this post. I had been kicking the idea around for quite some time, but the glaring duality in the newest Times sucked it out of me. I recently had some t-shirts made up for my RL pizza shop. In the process of developing the design, I came across a shirt with the old phrase, Life is a [bleep], Then you die. This is one of the phrases that at first glance sounds pretty true. Ranting about Runescape has been covered to death. Just look at the rants section of the official forums. Nearly 700k posts, (compared to the compliments of just over 100k). That people complain is not really trying to get across here. You will never satisfy all of the players all of the time. Looking closer at the actual phrase brings out the contradiction in this line of thinking. We can all agree that life is a [bleep] some of the time, but is it true all the time? If life really was so bad, wouldnt dieing be a welcome relief? I assume most of you arent searching for the nearest tall bridge or cliff to jump off, so dont let this overlooked contradiction poison your thinking. It does have a very observable though. The root of that phrase is something along the lines of telling Jagex: Why bother trying, your updates wont matter anyway. Now, I am sure that most of you readers couldnt care less about the morale of anyone at Jagex (a few of you might even be actively thinking of ways to screw with it), but really if you are going to complain, then COMPLAIN! Dont make some lame article that rants about updates, then finished with: All in all, I cant wait until the graphics come out, but please dont continue to improve them. First of all, Jagex is out to make a profit. To do that they need to sell subscriptions and advertising, and in order to do that, they need to generate new customers. I am pretty sure they are actually happier when older players leave the game. The older toons are the ones skilled at emergent gaming, who pked well, merchanted well, and the ones who took advantage of every loophole there was. Old Paul in his Ivory Tower doesnt like it when people dont play the game the game the way he meant it to be played, and hence Jagex goes out of its way to stop it. Back to the article though. Das ripps on Castle Wars. Well, I miss the point there as well. The goal of the game is to gain combat XP, with the secondary goal of getting some fairly noobish looking Armour. The higher level amours only tell others that you have spent hundreds of hours at Castle Wars, something that others might attach some status to, but I sure dont. He more players there to kill, the more XP you get per game! The more the merrier, and if you dont like the terrain, there is always FOG, Bounty Hunter, and Clan Wars. You dont need the wisdom of Solomon to write an effective complaint, so please. Take a stand, hold your ground, make a decent argument. Dont make lame attempts and snide comments like, is variety not the spice of life? Either complain about updates or shut the hell up.
  3. With the newest quest, I found myself lacking in smithing XP, so I started timing the best places to mine gold, and found that using the Fisher King's Realm to get to Karamja was by far the fastest. To achieve the optimum gold ore per hour, you need a Lunar Staff(or Dremen), a rune pick, Varrock Armour, glory, and a whistle. Use any fairy ring to tele to BJR, and blow the whistle on arrival. You teleport out to the 4 wooden pillars, and the gold mine is just south of there. There are actually 10 rocks and a spawn. Mine a full inventory, and glory to Edgeville and bank. You can make bars there if you want (remember your gold smithing gauntlets if you do), but I just bank and save for later. Then run over the bridge and tele back to the Fisher King's Realm with the fairy rings. No lightening items (boots of lightness, spottier capes) are necessary because you never run that far. The Varrock Armour has a special that gives an extra ore every few ores. My best is 5 free ores in one inventory, so that really speeds things up.
  4. The color scheme makes your guide hard to read.
  5. Hey Lave. Good to see your guide updated.
  6. This guide is both slow and unresearched.
  7. Jimmy - You are off here. Hides can be had in big numbers for 100 each on any free world. Vials on the other hand? 130 Each? Psha!
  8. Bringing a canon to these guys is an absolute must. There are some great canon places, and they drop like flies.
  9. Thanks for posting everyone. If you get a chance, can you post some of your collection times? It is always handy to have more data.
  10. Great guide. I have tried to explain this to a few people, and some of them (like a few that posted here) will never get it, the rest however, I will send here.
  11. Thanks for the Input Crypto. I corrected the corn entry. A quick search of the RS forum shows 6 threads about buying or selling mage roots. 2 of 2 buyers were offering 50,000gp. 2 of 4 sellers were selling for 50,000gp, the other 2 were selling for 35,000gp. That is what I based my numbers off. I never sell my magic tree roots though so I don't have my pulse on the market so to speak. I don't have the WC level to cut them actually so I always just pay the farmer 200gp to cut them for me, and sadly he keeps all my roots. With only 6 posts on the official forums on the subject, the magic tree root market could quite well be a dry one.
  12. That is a great suggestion for low levels need! I acutally did that when I first started training. If you go to tjhe Druid Circle, north of Taverly (Start point of Druidic Ritual) there is an alter that you can use to pray constantly while killing them. There are 6 or so spawns and they are easy to kill. I was amazed at how fast I could kill them as a total noob using Super Human Strength and Imnproved Reflexes.
  13. Aoe - I will get right on to checking that combination out and doing some time trials and updating the guide with your info. I actually did the vast majority of my crafting well before the fairy rings and balloons came out so I collected seaweed at Entrana. Now that is a waist of time. I did get to collect quite a few laws though. Blood - I gave up after searching Piscatoris for the seaweed spawn ther for ten minutes. (I might just have been standing directly on top of it, but still couldn't find it). Either way before I got up the 'urge' to search for it again it became appearant that collection was pretty slow so I didn't bother going any further.
  14. This is draft one. I am off to work now, so pictures will have to wait until tomorrow.
  15. The Seaweed Guide Intro Last year Jim H* started ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâthe Seaweed GuideÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ on the official RS forums. It was kept up for a while, but after getting eaten by the 50-page monster it dropped into obscurity(and he has quit the game). This guide complements a part of RS that I would really like to see improved, the Crafting Skill. Seaweed is an integral part of making glass, which is both profitable and fun, avoiding much of the monotony of other skills. In this guide I hope to accomplish the following: -Faster Crafting XP for people who follow this guide -An increased interest in Glass Making, and crafting in general -A bigger Molten Glass / Unpowered Orb market -Higher demand for Battlestaffs -A craftable battle staff update Table Of Contents Part 1: What is Seaweed Part 2: Seaweed Locations Part 3: The Fastest Seaweed collection Method Part 4: Other Collection Methods Part 5: Seaweed to Soda Ash? Part 6: FAQ Part 7: Reflections of an Adamant Longsword Part 1: What is Seaweed There are two types of seaweed in the game, Seaweed and Edible Seaweed. I will be concentrating on normal seaweed in this guide, (but see the note below for Edible Seaweed.) Seaweed is one of the two main ingredients in molten glass, a requirement for glass making. Seaweed and Buckets of sand can be made directly into molten using Lunar Magics, or you can use it on a fire or range to make soda ash if you canÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t cast the Superglass Make spell. A note on Edible Seaweed: You can get this as a drop from the rock crabs or from the Fishing Trawler mini game. Part 2: Seaweed Locations Rellekka 9 spawns. Entrana: 10 spawns (you can only easily get 8 though, in order to get all 10 you will need to telegrab the 2 out in the water). Karamja: 15 spawns, but they are all over the island. Boats: 20 in stock, 5gp each You can also get seaweed by big net fishing and killing rock crabs. The edible seaweed dropped by rock crabs is fine as well and will make soda ash just like regular seaweed. Part 3: The Fastest Seaweed collection Method The fastest Seaweed collection in the game is done in Rellekka. You will need 25-35 Enchanted Lyres and another wearable form of teleportation. If you dropped yours, or donÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t know how to make them, check out my other guide 'The Enchanted Lyre Guide' for a detailed information on them. Your outfit is up to you, but in order to get 700 seaweed an hour, you will need to be running as much as possible, so boots of lightness, spottier cape, energy potions, and gloves are highly recommended. Use your lyre to teleport to the entrance of Rellekka, run to the east, then north to the coast when you clear the city wall. There are nine seaweed spawns there. Be sure to use a server that has at least 1,600 people playing at the same time, or the seaweed will not respawn fast enough. Start at one end and begin picking up seaweed until you are full. Glory tele to Edge or Duel ring to CW bank then play your lyre again to get back out to Rellekka. Using everything I mentioned here you should be able to collect 700 seaweed an hour. Turbo Tip: Keep an eye out for people training on rock crabs there. 2-4 seaweed drops from the crabs in not uncommon, and grabbing 4 at once really speeds things up. Part 4: Other Collection Methods Fairy Rings: If you have completed Fairy Tail part 2, then you can also use the fairy rings to get out there. The code is AJR. This is the second fastest method in the game. One benefit here for those without 77 mage is that there is a range right near the bank in the Lost City that you can use to make soda ash quickly. This is however only effective if you are collecting/cooking less than 550 seaweed (for more than that it is faster to cook them in the RogueÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Den). Entrana: This was the best place to collect Seaweed for a long time, and I still collect here every once in a while. If you have 54 or higher RC, this can also be an effective way to cross-train. Wear: Glory, law tiara, air staff and 28 unnoted ess. Craft the ess into laws then collect the seaweed. If you donÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t have 54 RC, it is also a good way to make money by using world 66 Law crafting company. If you donÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t know them, they will provide you with 27 free laws and noted ess if you trade 27 un-noted ess. Here are the top six ways to get from Entrana to a bank. (This information was taken with permission from the World 66 Law Crafting company thread.) 1. Fastest way to get laws (ABYSS) Get glory amulets or use Ancient Magic and teleport to Edgeville and bank there. Get your pure essence and enter the Abyss and use the law altar exit. (This method is very fast but also very dangerous). 2. Fast safe way to get laws (CASTLE WARS) needs logs, dueling rings and enlightened journey quest To use this route you need: - 1 Normal log to go from CW balloon station to Entrana - Dueling ring to return to CW bank 3. Fast way to get laws (DRAYNOR) Get glory amulets and teleport to Draynor village and bank there. Get your pure essence and run back to the law altar. 4. Medium way to get laws (FALADOR) Teleport to Falador and bank there. Get your pure essence and run back to the law altar. With the new Construction update, you can use teleport tablets use the Falador route and so save inventory space. 5. Slow way to get laws (PEST CONTROL / VOID KNIGHT) Use Southernmost dock in Port Sarim to get to PC (talk to squire). Bank, get your pure ess and take the two boat trips back to Entrana. 6. Slow way to get laws (DRAYNOR) Run to Draynor village and bank there. Get your pure essence and run back to the law altar. Part 5: Seaweed to Soda Ash? Until Lunar Magics, the only way to make molten was from soda ash and sand. Now with the level 77 Superglass Make spell, you can make it directly from seaweed. Be careful not to have normal and edible seaweed at the same time when casting this spell because you will not get a full yield. Using seaweed on a range or fire makes soda ash. It never burns, so just click cool all and let it cook. The fastest place to cook your seaweed into soda ash is the RogueÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Den. Part 6: FAQ Work in progress (Someone ask me a question). Part 7: Reflections of an adamantite longsword A battle staff has the same melee stats as an Addy Long. I can only ask myself ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅWhy?ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
