  1. Happy New Year.

Turns out an album I ordered turned out getting charged twice, so now I'm down 25$ until the company gets back into their offices and can resolve it on the 3rd.

  2. I don't think I've ever really celebrated New Years. It isn't a big deal for me. I haven't watched the ball drop since about 2003, and I went to a party 2 years ago but it was more just friends hanging out than a New Year's party. This year I'm with family in Utah so I'll be sitting in the basement listening to music and avoiding drunk family.

2011 has been a fantastic year for me though, here's to an even better 2012.

  3. Speaking of books, I'm wondering if anyone here can help me find a particular book. I checked it out over the summer, and I really liked it, but I forgot the name, so when I tried to recommend it to someone, I couldn't really do so. The book itself is a collection of short stories, all by the same person I believe, which reimagine the tales of Odysseus, both the fall of Troy and his return home. One of the stories, for example, had Odysseus skip out on the actual fighting in the Trojan War however he could. One day he snuck away, became a bard, and told stories of the war with him as the hero instead of the real heroes around him. Then he returned home and basked in the glory of his supposed greatness.

Does that seem familiar to anyone? I could not for the life of me find it via Google, and the library doesn't keep a record of the books you check out, sadly.

That seems awfully familiar, I think we were required to read it in high school, but I can't for the life of me remember it.

  4. Speaking of reading, bought my girlfriend her Christmas gift to give her when we get back from break (The 2nd and 3rd books of the Hunger Games series, she started the first one and is getting really into it). Also ate at Five Guys for the first time. The burger was unimpressive, but god-tier Cajun fries. Then I walked home and got stopped by Mormons on bikes, which is kinda funny considering I've been in Utah for like 4 days and it's already happened. Then I just now ordered an album (Jesu - Silver EP) and now I'm pretty much done for the day.

  5. I couldn't sleep at all during the nigh so I stayed up all night watching How I Met Your Mother on netflix. It's like 6 now and I had to be up at 8 anyway, so I burned through that time pretty quick.

  6. My school [bleep]ed me over and I have to drop my Chemistry class I registered for next semester. We have to take a mandatory placement exam for it on the 21st of January. My dorm building is locked (the building meant specifically for SCIENCE students, mind you. Seems like when housing us you should make sure we can have a place to stay when we need to for science classes) until the 22nd and I have my plane ticket there for the 22nd, so even if I were to waste money and buy another ticket I would also have to rent a hotel room for the night, and we can't afford to do that, so I have to drop the Chem class I just barely got. Which means my entire first year is spent taking GE classes and I could have just gone to a community college.

    [bleep].

At this point a major change doesn't seem so bad, I was considering switching to BECA already and now it's more tempting.

  7. I find it funny how I've never seen Sennheiser headphones but it's all I see on these forums. I guess I'm just fine with my logitech headphones.

I rarely see any of the headphones that are talked about a lot and supposed to be the best (Senn, Audio-Technica, Grado) in stores. Because places like Target/Best Buy usually carry just Skullcandy, Bose, and Beats because that's what people buy when they see the pretty colors.

I got mine at Best Buy surprisingly, overpaid by like 10$ of what I would on Amazon, but I don't have to pay shipping or wait.

  8. Bought myself a nice new pair of headphones (Sennheiser HD428) since I've been using shitty earbuds forever. Still have like 200$ left of Christmas cash, so I'm gonna take my girlfriend on a nice date after break and then put the rest in savings.

  9. Christmas in 12 minutes for me.

I'm pretty sure I'm exclusively getting cash since my parents didn't even bother to ask what to get me or ask my relatives. Using that cash to pay for a nice date for me and the girlfriend and buy a few records I've been wanting.

Won't be celebrating till the next day, though. Gonna be leaving at 7pm tomorrow for Utah and celebrating the 26th. Christmas lunch at my grandparents's place during the day too.

  10. Washed my jeans and now today put them on, it was really difficult to get them buttoned. Granted it was the first wash so they'll shrink, but I need to start excercising. I dont like how much weight I've lost. I'll start 10 per post now, and use it for all social networking as well.

  11. [hide=potentially inapropro]So the girlfriend has been worried incessantly that something went wrong when we had sex a few times (it was her first time) and she's been SUPER paranoid that something happened and maybe a condom broke or something, which has been in turn getting me paranoid even though I know nothing happened. She called me this morning super happy telling me that she started her period. Hopefully she doesn't get all paranoid all the time or this woman is going to cause me a heart attack.[/hide]

And today I'm going to hang out with my friends and play Magic at someone's house, maybe go out for lunch too.

  12. The last time I went shopping with girls they gave me the choice of going into Hot Topic or Victoria's Secret. Never has jumping off of the third floor seemed like a good idea until then.

You mean you don't want to go help girls go pick out their lingerie?

  13. Okay so I've been with my girl for a while but haven't had a chance to take her on a date, so I promised I'd take her on a really nice date after break. What do you guys think of this idea: Take her out to dinner for seafood down by the wharf and then to a show (as of now, Im planning on The Whitest Kids U Know at a comedy club, which is the week we get back from break conveniently).

Never actually done a real date before so IDK.

  14. Realized that since I've stopped playing competitive Magic since starting college I should sell off some of my better standard cards and stick to casual, since I only play EDH any more really. Listed up my playset of Splinter Twin (not actually standard, but I'd like to get rid of them), my 2 Spellskites, and my 3 Wurmcoil Engines on ebay.

Hey, if any of you Magic players on here want them, you should buy them icon_e_wink.gif

Gonna use money from selling those to buy my girlfriend some Christmas gifts. Luckily I have until Jan 22nd to get her things since I won't see her over break and I'm giving her gifts once we get back to school.

  15. I hate when things go wrong. My mom booked me a ticket to visit her in Utah that went SF -> Salt Lake -> Long Beach, she was assuming I could just hop off after the first flight and meet her in Salt Lake. I could, except my bad ended up being BARELY too big and they made me check it, which meant it went to Long Beach regardless, so I had to. Luckily she booked it with the end near somewhere I actually live, rather than to some random place just cause it's cheaper. So my brother picked me up from there and drove me home and now instead of visiting m mom for Christmas we're leaving up to Utah on the 26th and having it after the actual date, and I'm doing like absolutely nothing on actual Christmas (my dad doesn't celebrate it because he hates buying people things).

EDIT: The good news: I may have just avoided the bag check fee. When I got my bag checked, after I paid the 25$ I figured out I couldnt go with my original plan so I asked them to cancel that and refund me and hold on. They canceled it (but didn't refund me yet) and then I talked to my mom and figured it all out. Then went back to the same lady to do it again but I couldnt because they didnt refund me and I didnt have enough money, so this cool dude just printed me a slip for my bag and then said they'd get on refunding me. My bank account says is like I never paid it and has no pending transactions, so hopefully I just saved 25$icon_thumbsu.gif

  16. [bleep] ice skating. I go in already slightly annoyed because my girlfriend has to pay because I'm broke, and expect it to be super fun, but NOOOO. Turns out I can't skate for shit, fall over multiple times as some smug little 8 year olds zoom by me, to the point I get so frustrated that I just left the rink. Ugh tonight [bleep]ing sucks.

  17. I'm embarrassed about my family's financial status. It's a big reason why I'm not trying to date a certain girl, because her family is a lot more rich.

Psh, and I felt this thread needs the 1st page.

I understand that completely. At any time I have about $40 max in my bank account, I can't really go out very much and my girlfriend has money and always offers to pay for me and I just feel bad about it. I haven't even been able to take her on a date yet because I need to wait till after Christmas when I get the money to do so. Hopefully I get a job after break.
