  1. lol, yeah, anyone can and are encouraged to join and submit to deviantart. no level required.
  2. I have: Wacom Graphire2 4x5 Wacom Intuos2 6x8 getting a Wacom Intuos3 6x8 and in a year im getting a Wacom Cintiq 18X (or better if they come out with newer by then). this would be your 'drawable lcd', its a 18'' flatpanel lcd monitor with wacom tablet technology. also about $2500 USD I think.
  3. dude, honestly, its not that hard. go grab a pencil and a piece of paper. scribble across from one side of the paper to another, but pressing light on one side, slowly pressing harder as you get across to the other. congratulations, you have just gone from light to dark. this is called shading. now open up photoshop, or whatever you are doing (pixel work?). start off with a dark or light color, I like dark first, and color in what you want. then slowly go over parts of it, making it lighter and lighter, simply by changing the color to a lighter one. why would you need a tutorial on this?
  4. honestly, I hate the term "sig maker". are you in grade 2? congratulations, you just turned 6 years old. sig MAKER. wtf. at least use sig CREATOR, or sig DESIGNER, or sig ARTIST. and there was a time these boards loved "filter piles". I remember when everyone was hooked on the AlienSkin plugin...I always hated that, looked tacky. I remember selling sigs here though, for over a million, hehe that was such a rip off, I just used old backgrounds and "filter piles"...but oh well, what can you expect, that was such a long time ago...
  5. I can shade....with ShadeMaster 2004.
  6. I tried that once, but I found it took a lot of my computers resources. not enough ram I guess.
  7. download a plugin for photoshop called ShadeMaster 2004. it scans the screen automatically, determines the shading required, and all you have to do is paint/pencil in your stuff. the plugin will automatically change colors to adjust for shading as you draw.
  8. hehe yeah :P it isnt a bad discussion... anyway, all artists start out with 'scrawling'...lol. pixel sigs are art. just because something does/doesn't look good doesnt make it any more/less art. I just poured BBQ sauce all over the counter to express my rage...its classified as art.
  9. I dont know why that is astonishing.. lets see, I own a graphic design art group, I work at a graphic design/web design firm, I intern at another firm, and also help out with some other design groups as well. and I have been around for about 5 years, started when I was 12. I used to be heavily into anime sigs, then moved on to abstract art/wallpapers, then to vector, and now to digital painting, along with flash and motion (after effects) on the side. I never really got into 3d, but will be taking a photography course next year. your work is nice, I like your vectors, and renders, but some of your other stuff could use work. but nice work I like it. glad to see people making art other than sigs. and yes, there are A LOT of good dutch artists, and european artists. one of the most famous probably being Jens Karlsson [link]
  10. trial version comes with all you need. you can even save now. back in the days of 5.0 they wouldnt let you save on the trial.
  11. yes, yes, no, yes, yes. which does not mean that I have posted in all of them. anyone who is known in the design community posted atleast one of those??? wtf. seriously dude, how long have you been around, you didnt answer that question. and according to you, you are known in the design community which is massive, if you have posted at one of those five forums? wow. seems new to me. I like how you classify yourself as some star in the design community. you can post at a forum! *gasp* I know tons of top artists, none of which have ever heard of you, and also does not mean anything. you can be the best digital artist in the world, and not post on forums. or even interact on the internet. you could just be someone that works in an office building all day pumping out scene after scene for movies/games. but I find it hard to believe that someone who claims to be in 'the design community' has no work online.
  12. yeah minernav, digital paintings are my lover :). and as sub said, photoshop is only around 150mb. I myself have a boughten legal version of photoshop 5, 6, 7 and CS. ive also got legal copies of autocad, maya, and macromedia MX studio, and the whole adobe CS studio too. if you have to resort to downloading warez, then it is illegal, sure, but not really. it is technically the file sharer's fault. whoever is sharing it is giving it to you. besides, everyone does it. I get lots of warez...except photoshop and macromedia studio, I actually have cd's for those. also, downloading music is legal here in canada  dont forget you can get a educational/student deal on most programs, I do all the time, sometimes getting them free. on the more expensive programs, sometimes you can get $1000 knocked off.
  13. can you please tell me just how long you have been around, seeing this type of abstract art, and which forum you were at that started this type of art? do you not realize the vastness of the internet? how many forums there are? how many digital art oriented forums there are? how old digital art is? how could you POSSIBLY know that your forum was the first to have this type of art? YOU may have seen it first at that forum, but that means nothing. it is hard to tell sometimes what the meaning behind a piece of artwork is. you cannot expect to take a look at someones art, and immediately know what the meaning is, and then if you cant figure it out just dismiss it. it takes some art critics years to figure out art. have you not seen those paintings of a almost completely blank white canvas, with maybe a speckle or two of red paint, that are selling for hundreds of thousands? I still cant figure that out, but that doesnt mean they didnt put any emotion into it. Time spent on a piece does not reflect their emotion/meaning behind the piece. That goes for every style..be it 3d, vector, digital painting, PIXEL ART, etc. and im pretty sure you people here have killed a lot of them. trendwhore was wrecked when newbs got a hold of it and began mass producing the stuff..and also making brushes...and putting it into everything.
  14. I know landscapes can take a while to get just right, and I truly admire people that do spend a lot of time on them. they can get quite realistic. But the ones that are used in sigs on the other hand... why do you assume I know nothing about it? and I want really flaming, I was exaggerating to make the point that you can make a decent looking landscape in a matter of minutes. and for unknownmasterofnothing: http://www.deviantart.com/view/2062198/

whens the due date for this??
  16. wow...I cant believe how dumb of a statement that was. Have you ever seen a digital painting? I dont mean a crappy one. I mean the kind that take 20 hours, the kind that look so real they look like a photograph. the kind that take so much work its not even funny, painting it in with the paintbrush, one layer only, and using matte colors. same as above. have you ever heard of a wonderful new thing on the internet, called downloading? and you should not classify sigs at all. theres a lot more styles than that, and its great to see everyone with a unique style. thats why I associate sig 'types' with their artist's name. And I do not believe the program should matter. the people who are making 3d models for movies, should they be criticized for using a 3d program and not drawing the thing out frame by frame in a basic program? no. advanced programs take advanced talent, thats a fact. with greater functionality comes a greater learning curve. I do not believe the statement "theres more quality in pixel work, then cged/ cell shaded works" can be even close to true. everyone has their own idea of quality.
  17. --- a) think it looks cool --- umm...can you tell me what is wrong with making art because you think it looks cool? and could you also tell me why anyone makes anything? certainly not because it looks uncool.
  18. nice rack ;) pencil version looks better however.
  19. why does everyone classify sigs in two categories: pixel or abstract there are many more styles...and like I said before, misterxman, you do not have to use paint/pixel-sigs to express your artistic talent. you can draw/paint in photoshop you know... but I like your stuff dude, your drawings are impressive, keep it up. but you can use other digital mediums and still achieve that feeling you get after you spend a long time on a project. edit: and to answer that other question about why abstract is any better. its not. abstract, bryce, terragen, etc. are all whorish styles that get over crowded by newbs. but, there are exceptions. I am friends with quite a few abstract/3d artists that actually KNOW what they are trying to achieve before they make it, so its not just a random mess of modifiers. in that way, abstract can be a very effective expression of emotion. I can usually tell and have become pretty good at telling when someone has planned their work, or if its a random mess.
  20. ok, so the general reasoning is: 1) You can have runescape-ish scenes 2) They take a long time to make ok,..well, what if you were to draw/paint them in photoshop, in a non-pixely manner? then it would meet both requirements, would it not? photoshop can be used skillfully, and take longer than 10 minutes to create something. its the projects that take more like 10 hours that are really nice.
  21. wtf? stop whining? I never said I didnt like them you clown. I never said I couldn't make them myself either. stop being so bitter.
  22. haha...yeah...im gonna start up my own [bleep]. hmm..
  23. good point, but come on, landscapes!? wow. open up terragen, edit some surface maps, paint randomly for some nice textures, and you have a landscape sig in 3 minutes. im not saying I dont like pixel sigs...im just wondering why they caught on. but as I said...there are other ways of having a detailed picture of your character in your sig.
  24. one of a kind....come on they all look the same.. and you can achieve other ways of having a detailed runescape character/scene in your sig ;)
  25. honestly guys...why is everyone so eager to get a pixel sig? what is so great about them? I don't understand...
