  1. Wolf bones are easy to get it you're a high level - the werewolves drop them! And there's nobody fighting them either.

That said, most of those who want wolf bones are low levels who couldn't defeat a werewolf anyway.

Edit, I would also save your charms unless you have a specific use for the monster you'll be infusing/summoning. You never know what February will bring!

  2. I'm going to reserve judgement until the end of February on this and all similar topics. Half the skill isn't out yet, and there's a few other updates and things mentioned that I believe might have something to do with summoning.

Isafdar is getting an update for Hunter, and that might have another influence. It is also possible that the spirit shards are based on a kind of crystal, possibly allowing us to make them? Pure speculation on that last part, I know.

Anyway, I still feel there's more to be explained. The charms and shards aren't given an explanation beyond 'here they are, use them to make creatures'. Where do they come from? I think Feb might let us know. We certainly need an easier way of getting charms, anyway.

And I'm all for not making charms tradeable - if they reduced the price of shards. Or let us sell charms and make shards even more expensive. Skills work best when they're expensive and quick or cheap and slow. Right now what we have is an expensive and slow skill that doesn't seem to give much reward, which currently brands it a failure in my eyes.

I certainly won't be training it for a while, anyway. But I'll still collect charms when I slay.

  3. I've got to level 13 (possibly 14, I'm not sure, I did it last night and have forgotten) and I've played about with the [bleep]ey snail for a bit. It allows you to essentially have an extra inventory space.

Or it would if I didn't keep forgetting to renew the timer. My main problem with summoning as an actual game play element is the time issue. If there was a switch that automatically refreshed the timer when you had a minute left it would be so useful!

  4. Lol, I'm simply waiting for maples to get to what i might consider there lowest point..then buy a whole bunch for 99 fm
Haven't they already hit the floor?

    That would be 1gp ::'

They're currently at the lowest price that Jagex will let you sell them for, which I believe is the same price that a general store sells them. You could sell them direct to a general store for less, but what would be the point?

  5. Although I have no idea what any of them means, as I do computer science for my degree not economics, and I have not read the quick guide (which I will do, give me an hour or so), all I have to say is this:

Did you pick the acronym and find random words that would fit into it? Or was it just a happy accident? As queltar has made his disapproval of the GE known so often, I can't help but wonder if it's deliberate.

Yes, I know that twerp is spelled with an 'e', but they're pronounced the same, so I'm curious.

  6. You can kill players in bounty hunter and clan wars which are both in the wilderness.

Thus you can kill players in the wilderness....

Are you serious that you think killing players is not player killing??!?!?

Player killing in its old sense does not mean just killing players, or just getting mobbed by a clan in BH, it means the fair atmosphere; actual rivalry and a good old bit of gritty flaming feuds.

I'm not sure how you failed to notice, but a fair atmosphere while pking has never been in the game. If you think that Jagex changing the wilderness removed it, then you have the thickest rose-tinted glasses on earth!

  7. Ah, here we go again. One crazy monkey, and everyone goes off the deep end.

I am referring to the illogical, idiotic and downright offensive slurs against religion posted by users of this forum. Yeah, the person who posted that on the RSOF is slightly off the deep end, but then many scientists are completely whack as well. Another point: A large percentage of murderers are atheists, does this mean that all atheists support murder? No. One example of craziness does not make the rest crazy.

And anyway, as someone who knows about Satanism (I used to volunteer in a rescue home that would help get people out of many bad situations, ranging from drugs to abusive relationships to cults) I can safely say that, from what I know of the summoning skill, it has absolutely nothing to do with Satanism. If you want to find references to demonology and 'unholy' things, here are far more obvious places to look.

That said, "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convince the world that he didn't exist"... :-k

P.S. as for my personal religion views, I am an evangelical Christian. But I'm also not a nut job.

  8. I'm fine with getting summoning in two waves, but having them on two separate months is very clever marketing from Jagex. If they'd have done the first part one week and then the second part the next, then most people would get it within the same month of membership. Now they can milk summoning as their 'big update of the month' for two months running! Clever!

  9. I zoomed up on the already zoomed up version of the calander, and got this...

Notice how the same color of red at the arch of the "N" or the "/1" has the same colors, and how there's a period at the end. The period would help abbreviate "January", but has no use for dates.

OT: It's killing me how they keep releasing little hints, but it doesn't help at all for actually training the skill. I just want it to be out already

After looking at it not blown up, it looks kinda like 22/1. Maybe the circled is our wait, and it comes out the 22nd.

It looks like '22/1' if you squint, tilt your head to the left, then lie to yourself.

It says Jan. As in January. The month. End of discussion.

  10. Summoning is a member's skill. That settles that argument. Also, the entire week of January 14th is circled, so this will be released next week. I'm assuming the related quest will be out the same day.

Hehe. How funny would it be if they released summoning today? The only problem being that you can't do anything until level 3, and there's no way of getting to level 3 without the Wolf Whistle quest? Which would be released next week?

    I'd laugh. Then I'd cry.

I was bored so I did a mock up of what I think the stats screen will look like once summoning has been introduced:

(Ignore the value for Total XP I just typed in a bunch of random numbers :P)

    http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=721174

They have said before that they cannot have the total xp displayed due to limitations of the 32bit system which would mean we could only have a limit of 112millon xp displayed ingame....

    good systems though.

    [/hide]

No. The limit would be 2,147,483,647. E.G. 2.14 billion.

The problem is that there's 24 skills (after summoning), and that'll likely increase. This means the total possible XP achievable is (soon to be) currently 4,800,000,000.

Also, they could very easily put total XP in the game. Make a text file, whenever your XP updates, have it write each skill value into that file.

Use the Haskell programming language to read those numbers and add them up, then write that to a file. Have Java read it back into the client as a string, and display it.

    There's your solution.

Except for the fact that this would cause an insane amount of slowdown on the servers, this could work. But the amount of server power required would either destroy any possibility of actually playing the game, or reduce capacity to around 200 people per world.
