My usual setup is 2 handed sword, bow & arrows, and a set of throwing spears. Even with lvl 3 in throwing, and very low proficiency, I can almost always make a 1 hit kill out of the spears, which is great for risky situations where your horse dies and you're being chased by a horde. Also, I was about to capture my second castle for my kingdom, I get knocked out with the castle only having 19 men left. I had to build a siege tower, which would take 90 hours because I made my engineer my vassal, and I had no food for my troops, so I just figured out I could restock on supplies and come back later. I get there and see that the nords took over the castle and left 90 units in it. Raged so hard.
