2nd of September 2008: Distractions and Diversions
ShadowFire replied to Were's topic in General Discussion
Just tried the circus, and I'm not impressed at all. Rewards are just completely random and you can only get 3 per week which means it'll likely take people months or even years to obtain a full set considering how random the performances are. For example, at lvl 61 range I failed two lvl 40 targets in a row which completely wrecked the one range performance I get for the week. In the magic one, the audience endlessly demanded the lvl 90+ stuff which I had no hope of succeeding on at lvl 73. Then the acrobatics one, the audience demanded the juggling balls 5 times during the performance which meant I couldn't get a bonus for half of it because the repetition would have severly damaged my total score. And then the rewards, I wanted a set of green Audience clothes and guess what I got? Yellow Audience shoes, some very slightly different yellow Audience shoes and a horrible Acrobat hood... -
Unless Jagex changed it recently, you can, because I saw a massive suicide festival at the G.E about two weeks ago. The guys doing the suiciding were even handing out free Zamorak Brews, and I used them to suicide as well.

I've gotta say great job for creating such a comprehensive Firemaking guide, it was incredibly useful when I was trying to get 99 Firemaking and answered a lot of the questions I had about it.
-
Most likely I'm "that guy", because I don't find it particularly amusing that the only expansions Firemaking has ever recieved have virtually nothing to do with Firemaking. And yes, I could easily light all 14 beacons in a few Agility & Construction levels, however I still find those extra requirements a pointless barrier that yet again holds back Firemaking from being seen as a useful skill in the eyes of everyone who doesn't have every skill at 80+.
-
Considering this is a FIREMAKING update, those requirements are very high. The last beacon already needs lvl 92 firemaking, it shouldn't also need 70 Smithing/59 Construction when those skills have nothing to do with beacon lighting.
-
Well this is ridiculous, Firemaking finally gets an update and yet again unless you have very high levels in every other stats, you can't get the rewards. To light all beacons, not only do you need to have 60 Crafting, 64 Agility, 42 or 59 Construction, 56 or 70 Smithing and the stats to access the Prayer guild and do Land of the Goblins, you need to be able to get to entrance of GWD and survive in the wildy.

22 August 2008 - Jagex Store - Official Launch!
ShadowFire replied to @Dan3HitU's topic in General Discussion
To be honest I'll probably pick up one of those mousemats, this Mario one I got free is falling apart and it's gonna cost me more than £2.49 for a half decent mousemat on eBay. Just gotta choose between the 3 Warriors or Castle Wars one. -

In which case I want an untradeable White Partyhat, it's untradeable so what harm does it do to anyone else? And yes it would "harm" me if Jagex dropped the Bunny Ears again, I spent over 5 hours at Easter 2003 on Runescape, running around the world going to the places where people had said they got their ears from until I finally saw the "Happy Easter!" system message from Jagex. I even had to risk getting Pked with all my best items on me as the only ears that hadn't been picked up were in Edgeville low level wilderness near a bunch of pures that could have 3 hit me. Those Bunny Ears mean a hell of a lot to me and I the only time I take them off is for combat or minigames that I can't wear them in, they contain the last few remaining memories I have of RS1. Call me selfish, but there is no way I ever want to see them given out again to a bunch of rude newbies that expect everything for nothing, so they can run around pretending they were at the original drop in 2003. And regarding your PM, in this topic there has been ONE person that has agreed with your idea, yet you still believe that the other 99% of people are completely wrong because 1 person agrees with you. -
Urgh, agreed. So far I've been Firemaking 2-3 hours a day for nearly a month and it's murder on the hands, yet I'm still only lvl 95, it's just non-stop clicking (2 clicks per fire) with the only respite being the 3 seconds it takes to run to the bank after each load. Thankfully at least in 10 more days I'll have be finished with this nightmare, no way I've ever going for another 99 that lacks a "Make X" option.

PK Anywhere: A Skiller's Dream Come True
ShadowFire replied to NukeMarine's topic in General Discussion
That's actually a very good point, with the amount of Rune, Addy and even Mith around Smithing just isn't profitable anymore and the only way to bring the prices to a level where Smithing is worth training is to drain them from the game, same with Crafting and dragonhide prices. Even Cooking could benefit, there is such a surplus of cooked food due to it being a popular skill to 99 that it loses a lot of money, with more demand for cooked food it could break even or make a profit again. My only concern is, they just won't drain fast enough to actually have any major impact on Mining, Smithing, Crafting or even Cooking. Armour would have to be lost at such at rate that it's twice the amount coming into the game before prices would even start to near the shop prices (Rune Plate is about 46k, Oziach charges what, 80k?) and raw/cooked fish is sold in it's millions each day, could pkers even gobble up that many Lobsters to affect prices? -
Holiday Event Items, please come back.
ShadowFire replied to ssbmbeliever's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, but I'm also going to say no. Since the day Bunny Ears were dropped I've made sure that I've been on RS at every single holiday event, even though apart from 1 month of members each year I haven't played for years. Heck, Christmas 2006 I had no internet (just moved house) and got a lift to an internet cafe 15 miles away so that I didn't miss the holiday event, because I enjoy them so much. Do you really think it'd be fair after all that for Jagex to turn around and say "Here you go guys, have some Bunny Ears because you weren't around to get them when they dropped 5 years ago"? They are basically a thank you gift for supporting Runescape over the years, and the older gifts show just how long you've been supporting RS for. As for the lvl 102 supporting, that means nothing. I've seen people who have got a higher total level in a year of RS than I have got in over 5 years. If that person had been around since the first untradeable drops and supported you, then it would mean something. -
Jagex announces the most challenging quest to date.
ShadowFire replied to Zox's topic in General Discussion
I seriously hope not, it gets REALLY tiresome to constantly hear the vocal minority of players complaining there should be quest with numerous 90+ requirements. As Omali said, it's not the requirements that make a quest tough, it's what you have to do during the quest. In reality Recipe for Disaster didn't require huge stats to complete, but it made up for it in the length, complexity and difficulty of the tasks you were completing and was exactly how a tough quest should be structured. Look at Rocking Out for an example, would that quest have been any easier if the pointless Smithing requirement had been set a lot lower? Of course it wouldn't, so other than preventing access to all but a small minority of players what good would giving the 150th quest 90+ requirements do? All it'd do is annoy the vast majority of players just to give the high level minority something to brag about. Hopefully Jagex will have looked at what Recipe for Disaster did and followed that, instead of just slapping on numerous 80+ requirements to make it seem harder than it actually is. Setting a lot of 50+ reqs, some 60+ and a couple of 70+ would make it possible for a good amount of people to attempt the quest, but only the very good players would actually finish it. -
The problem is, these supposedly have been in the cache for a very long time (I remember seeing topics with cache images from months ago) and Jagex have done nothing with them. The music cape in particular seems to have been abandoned in favour of that emote which nobody uses. And Dragon Platebody is quite obviously being held back so Jagex can shove it as a ridiculously rare drop from some lvl 2000 monster that always 1 hits even through prayer, given their current obsession with making full Dragon unobtainable to all but a couple of people.

12 Aug 2008 - Runecrafting Guild and Game - For All Players!
ShadowFire replied to namename's topic in General Discussion
Yikes, that thing looks amazing. Just such a shame it costs so many tokens, you'd be passing up 10k essence or up to 250 tabs to get it. -
Earlier yesterday I thought it was great, however now I think it is probably the most poorly balanced excuse for a minigame Jagex has ever released. For a start, green team gets way less orbs making it much harder to win. Because of this, all the level 100+ players go to the yellow team which makes it completely impossible for green to win. Of course, it's not possible to see how balanced the team is until you enter the game and see it's 5v3 and then if you leave you are punished by having to wait ages to join again. Good rewards, but there isn't any point having good rewards when it's totally impossible to even get a draw.

It's a very useful item for anyone who crafts more than 1 type of rune, instead of clogging your bank up with 12 different types of tiara you can just store 1. Not to mention the fact that it looks amazing. -

Now, since I've never been to the Abyss (don't like the risk factor of it) I don't know what these eyes are, but maybe someone else will know. Whatever they are, the Runecrafting staffs distract them. -

ShadowFire replied to namename's topic in General Discussion
Depends on the team you are with, I got 400 tickets for a draw but it's very hard to even get a draw if you are unlucky, as teams are not balanced in terms of number of players or runecrafting level. Basically, a good team will easily be pulling in thousands of tickets per hour, anyone who doesn't have a bunch of good friends who understand the rules will struggle to even buy 1 bit of clothing. -

Anyone got a pic of one of the new runecrafting staffs infused with the Omni Talisman? I'm trying to get one, but since it's nearly always myself and some useless players (congratulations on endlessly repelling our own orbs) lumped against a bunch with much higher RC levels it's near impossible to get many point. -

Yep, Tiara or Staff. Just talk to the insane wizard in the guild with a tiara/staff and the Omni Talisman in your inventory. Anyway thanks much Ducky, got the Omni Talisman now. Now to get a blank staff to infuse it with. -

Blech, trying to get an Omni Talisman but it's impossible to buy Death Talismans (even at max in trade) and I'm seriously not going to waste my time trying to do Mournings End Pt 2 at lvl 57 Agility. Can't even offer to buy one off someone and then sell it back as soon as I've shown it to the Wizard as nobody seems to want to part with one. As for those tablets, they are priced at between 30 and 45 tokens each, and considering those Runecrafting staffs cost 10000 I'd guess it won't be that hard to get 45 tokens (maybe 50-100 per game?) -
Where exactly did I state that Firemaking is one of the hardest skills? Firemaking is obviously not even in the same league in terms of difficulty as Mining, Runecrafting or Summoning, however it is much harder than Cooking and Fletching which it is lumped with, or even Fishing and Woodcutting which are both held in much higher regard. I'd much rather have a lower rate of xp per hour, but be able to just click once and then just do something else while I wait for my inventory to clear, 200 hours of barely concentrating or clicking is far more preferable to 100 hours of solid concentration and endless clicking. You don't have that option with Firemaking, so why is it still considered to be easier than Fishing/Woodcutting?
-
I'm sorry, but you really aren't in a position to comment on Firemaking considering you are only level 66 in it. Not only do you have to keep full concentration on it at all times (i.e. no Tip It, no watching TV, no typing messages) but it is complete murder on the hands due to the complete lack of any "Make X" option and the fact you need 2 clicks per light. It's much more difficult than any skill with an X option.
-
I agree that Firemaking is far more difficult to 99 than people seem to think, just looking at the total number of people with 99s it's rarer than Attack, Strength, Defence, HP, Ranged, Magic, Cooking, Woodcutting and Fletching yet it's still treated as dirt compared to them. Not only is there no "Make X" option, but it's 2 clicks per fire made and you HAVE to keep full concentration on the game window at all times. Browsing websites or even typing messages means your character sits doing nothing and then you have the nasty relighting animation every time you are slightly too slow clicking the next fire. Then you've got the issue of finding a place to FM that is empty so you don't have line stealers, meaning eiter using the G.E and spending half your time hopping worlds or going to a quiet place and slip into a coma with the lack of interaction. As it is, my hand is already in pain from all the clicking to get to 85 firemaking and the complete lack of interaction is driving me insane, yet I'm still 10m exp off 99. Anyone who says Firemaking is an easy 99 either did it with Yews, hasn't even tried it or has the patience of a saint, because it's already driving me mad.

Although it's nice to see more stuff related to the Elves, I just wonder if these odd little bits are purely just to stop everyone going on about Prifddinas. I mean, basically it's been 2 years now since the last main Elf quest (i.e not a sidequest like Roving Elves) as MEP2 was released on 17th October 2005, yet MEP1 was released on 19th July 2005. It's not crazy to think that Jagex may just have given up on Prifddinas, with Crystal equipment being totally outclassed and the vast majority of players unable to attempt (let alone finish) MEP2 they may just have decided that it's not worthwhile creating a huge city with massive crystal spires and a whole range of Crystal armour for the few people that would actually gain access to it.
