  9. We get like no days off this year because school started a week or two later because of construction on new schools. I'm just glad I'm a senior this year, so I get an extra week off before school gets out for everyone else.
  10. I don't get a day off until November. Then there's 1 random day, and two for thanksgiving. Then I don't have anything until the week I get off for Christmas. A [bleep]ing week. God damnit.
  11. That's what she said.

  20. [hide=TYLER RANT TIME!] So, last Friday I had that muchkin party that I think I posted about. Dylan was there, and so was another one of my friends who Dylan has been going on dates with for a while. For simplicity's sake, I'm going to just call her Dylan's Girlfriend. So, at the tail end of the party, we were playing the forehead game - take a sticky note, write something on it, attach it to someone else's forehead and everyone has to guess what they are. Dylan had to make a sticky note for his girlfriend. On the sticky note, he wrote "Drug-addicted [bleep]" because he wasn't sure what to write. You can imagine how that went down. She was kind of mad at him, but she didn't really care all that much. Well, Dylan felt bad and so he kind of avoided her all weekend. On Sunday, apparently, another girl came to where Dylan works. She goes to the catholic school in town, so I'll call her Catholic girl. So, apparently Catholic girl and Dylan exchanged phone numbers, and that night they started texting each other and flirting and [cabbage]. Apparently. I can't imagine much really went on, but that's what he said. What he said was that Catholic girl asked him on a date, and Dylan was like, I'm going out with someone sort of, but I'd like to go out with you too, and she was like, Ok, just choose whoever you want. So, last night, he's like, hey, I want to go out with you Catholic girl. Then, he texts his (ex-)girlfriend, and he's like, hey, I'm dumping you to go out with this other girl, but I'd still like to hang out. As he's typing this out, she sends him a text asking if he wants to go to a movie with her this weekend. And he's like, Uhh...sure? The sad part of all this is that neither of them are mad or feeling bad about any of this. I'm pretty much pissed at Dylan because he's being a dick, and red headed girl, who's Dylan's (ex-)girlfriend's best friend, is pretty much in agreement with me. Dylan's (ex-)girlfriend is just like, Whatever, I don't care. I really don't. Dylan's like, Why are you mad at me? That makes no sense. I really want to punch him, but meh. That's it. Great story I know. [/hide] In other news,
  21. And, yes, I have trouble reaching the minimum on most things that have a minimum length. I never have trouble writing a 2-3 page 5 paragraph essay, but I struggle to write a research paper that's much longer than 3-4 pages. 2-4 is my range, I guess.
  22. Agh, I can't stand to read any of my old papers. The only things I can look back on favorably are my speeches. Those I had fun with, so they're ok. But everything else I can't stand. A lot of times I can't even reread papers to proofread them, which gets me into trouble too often. This is funny because I'm never happy with my writing, but everyone else who reads them always like them, for whatever ungodly reason. It's saddening.
  23. On a scale of 1 to 10, how good of an essay writer would you say you are? Answer that right now. Now think about what you use in an essay. Persuasive techniques. Factual referencing. How to phrase things so that they don't sound [bleep]ing retarded. On a scale of 1 to 10, how proficient were you at essay writing in sixth or ninth grade? If you said the same, I want you to go to your Microsoft Word and open up an old essay of yours. Then read it all the way through. Now go to a newer essay, something you wrote in the last year. Read it through. Which was better? And abc, you may never have to explain contemporary poetry, but you may very well have to explain how an engine you've just designed is going to work to your boss, who you are most likely going to think is incompetent. Being able to explain complex ideas is an important skill to have. Plus, from experience, I can tell you that the easiest way to explain something is to draw a parallel to something else, to give an example.
  24. You can specialize insofar as you can choose the classes you take in high school, you can choose to be more of a math or science student than an art or english student, but high school can't allow you to just skip out on the classes which very much have an impact on what you do with the rest of your life.
