  1. You've stayed together during your whole living abroad trip?

Vast majority until I broke up with him for reasons unrelated to distance

EDIT: I figured out the issue with me and hookup guy was height difference lol. Idk how I thought 6 ft 5 or some shit wouldnt have any issues with a 4 ft 11 girl lol. Also first person I've been with without knowing who they were prior. Felt sketch af but I absolutely adore the Canadian accent. Felt alot better when I heard him say the trademark Canadian version of the word "about" lol

  2. To update, I broke up with my long term boyfriend a few weeks back because I did a reflection on myself in general and gathered I have more peace of mind when I don't have him in my life.

Anyway got [bleep]ing catfished on tinder by a high school kid but luckily didn't meet up because I put two and two together when he kept dodging the suggestion of getting drinks at a bar on Friday night and kept insisting that he come back to my place. Bit creepy that high school kids are on tinder trying to shag university girls though.

I mean I'm in Canada for two weeks I don't care about being a notch on a bedpost, just not with someone younger than me

  3. i want chicken wings so badly rn

I love chicken wings so much, I make them every week and took them to a potluck yesterday.

In other news, took the first photos of the marching band in 50 years, so I'm part of the legacy.

Funny that I only really took it seriously about 2 months ago and now, after performing all of three times I happened to perform at the biggest events of the calendar year with minimal distraction from my studies, so it's a win for everybody.

  4. So I got a leaving card from the band signed by everyone which was touching - it's set in now (I'm going home in a month) and I can't wait.

I think not going home at all has really motivated me to smash this final month here.

Not much has happened since coming back from DC but I'm hopefully getting sloshed today. On Wednesday I watched Batman 1966 with the percussion and saxophone sections of band.

Went to a potluck yesterday evening and I'm the most awkward person sometimes especially without alcohol. I hate being so awkward, but it's hard to just jump in when everyone else there knows each other... it took about half an hour for me to loosen up but when it happened it was great.

It's partially because the person who brought me didn't introduce me to people so I just kind of look like this random girl who's showed up with a box of muffins that no one's eating and mango juice.

However, I am totally living up to my RSN now, I have absolutely no idea how many muffins I've eaten in the last week or so but I'm addicted to them.

It's weird because every time I got a good grade in an exam, my mum used to celebrate by baking me some muffins, which is the reason behind my name but I mean like, 80% and above as "good grades". I normally get 70-80 on an average day which is good in the UK but not as good in Canada so anyway yeah I've been buying muffins for the many potlucks I've been attending and now when I go downtown I always bump into someone who knows me from something or other and it actually feels nice to have established such good relationships with people as it took a while for me to find my feet here.

I did a trivia quiz yesterday after the potluck and got driven home during the thunderstorm, today I've got a house party, tomorrow a dinner with the band, next week a kegger and end of year social so busy busy and then my first two finals are next Saturday.

I think reining in my sarcasm and dry humour helped me appear nicer than I actually am.

  5. My travel plans of year abroad are over thanks USA once again for having me. Great time and even got to meet a friend from tif which was cute. Getting drunk for one last weekend and then finals then home yay

Talking about travelling :travelling alone is pretty good I'd highly recommend it. I've honestly been at peace being able to budget for myself and not have to negotiate activities with people (Christmas is the only exception where travelling with people was brilliant) but otherwise solo travel is the way to go imo

  6. USA I am back and loving it as always.

Had some brilliant food and border control was a lot more friendly to me this time round even though it took four hours to cross the border.

Met a trump supporter lol and had dinner at a nice pub. Feels good to be able to drink in the US now.

  7. Back in the USA today.

I recall being shouted at by US border control last time I came and I honestly can't remember why and I bet I'm going to repeat the same error.

I'm genuinely nervous to be honest.

  8. I don't think I really understood tears of joy until I had them myself.

The marching band I'm in got awarded 'best university band' at the 193rd St Patrick's Day parade.

This was my first and only parade with the marching band that I joined around two months ago.

In that time I've learnt how to march (which I had no experience of) and play the saxophone (which I hadn't done for two years prior)

and doing this activity has really lifted my emotional state in a way that I didn't expect it to.

I've made so many new friends as well as the fact that I feel like I've achieved something big, by making so many people and children smile along the parade route.

They were so happy to our handmade decorations for our instruments - when we did the dancing routines, yes I was nervous but the crowd loving it so much made me love it so much and get into it.

It was so strange to be actually on the parade route with photographers and police guarding the lines. I love performing and I'm so happy I've been able to do it in such a different capacity to the one I'm used to (concerts).

  9. I don't even want to show my face today I'm so embarrassed. I need to keep a low profile. More importantly I need to buy snacks for the trip to Montreal but I just want some typical British things and now idk what to do because I can't have them here :(

  10.

    O Canada.

Only got $220 USD for $300 Canadian dollars, down by $9 USD since I last exchanged the same amount in December :(

Either way, I always spend considerably less than I expect when I go to the US so I'm not too bothered.

I am feeling fantastic. I got my varsity jacket today that officially has the marching band written on it with my surname on my right arm.

I have been looking forward to this jacket forever - Yeah, I'm a sellout really. In September I was scoffing at everyone for wearing University gear but here I am, in the most University-centric society but I've met the best people, and I'm enjoying being in the band a lot - they gave me an upgraded saxophone so now it's like 70/30 good notes to squealing (saxophones are really annoying to control at times and squeal from time to time) . I've also got the marching and playing the instrument at the same time sorted out and I've been able to watch myself back on Youtube and see where I could improve so that's all good too.

Midterms done as well - I'm going to have a good ending to my year abroad definitely.

Out of curiosity, have you ever tried overblowing to reach higher notes? I doubt it would ever come up in marching band, but it might have if you've done other styles. Just the talk about squealing made me think of it :P

It just squeals when I do that - today wouldn't be a good day because I got so drunk and the entire day I've just been completely wasted and even went to band practice drunk.

I was significantly more conversational and jovial. Very lively - I can't believe I actually accomplished everything I expected to, today.

First celebration of St Patrick's was a good one

  11. My legs are killing me.

I've been marching for five hours trying to perfect our parade routine. A couple of flaws were ironed out so it's worth it. I'm very excited for my first high profile performance this Friday night. Hope I don't fall off the catwalk lol

  12. ...but those are all things the pill reduces, not increases. Regular cycles, better skin, more proportionate weight - only downside is bloating about 20% of your life and keeping your hormones in check

it's different from woman to woman. Anything that varies hormone levels is going to have different effects from person to person. You don't even really get a period - it's a withdrawal bleed when you come off the pill. I'm speaking from personal experience when I say it was horrendous and I couldn't get out of bed for days at one point. Many other girls report the acne increase etc so whilst it can decrease those things in some women, it can increase them in others.

I heard a story about a couple who were pregnant and were confused about it because the woman didn't like the pill so her boyfriend took it instead and they wondered why they still got pregnant

  14. Quality night with the people who are also here on exchange from my home uni. Felt good to be out with people from home for once. Got bored inevitably so bought a burger and walked home. I need to stop clubbing because it's actually so boring. I just keep forgetting that I'll sober up within an hour and want to go home

Daylight savings freaked me the hell out. I was so confused for like five minutes. I think my drink of choice is rum at this point of time. Doesn't make me want to throw up yet achieved a good amount of drunkenness

  15. You only have 627 posts, and I feel like all of them came from the last year alone. Seriously how have you been here since 2007?

I had periods of inactivity, or simply lurking I guess.

I'm only more active now because I'm on my year abroad and have nothing to do
