But I thought we were talking about who is doing "far more" and who is doing "far less"?
I meant "far more/less" in terms of how difficult the job is.
-
Haha, log off runescape for a bit and you might learn something about the real world - if what you are trying to say was true (that CEOs do no work, sit there gaining money doing nothing and that anyone could do it), then it wouldn't be a highly paid job.
So you are saying Hannah Montana is more important than a paramedic or teacher?
More important? No. My point is that highly paid jobs are highly paid for a reason (a low number of people can do them).
-
Oh ya, the job of CEO is soooooo risky. Because if the company goes under the CEO will have to give up his plans to go to five star hotel that night. But the worker, he gets it easy, if the company goes under all he has to do is starve.

What is your proposed solution? Make everyone equal by giving them all brain damage?
-
You have no idea how hard it is to be Hannah Montana. She is manipulated by people every day, working hard, singing classes, acting classes, and has millions of fans whom she has to be sure to appeal to.
So, Miley Cyrus works as hard as more than 490 (average) teachers?
I think not. Next time you see someone rich and feel all gooey inside about them, I suggest that you stop for a minute and consider whether what they've actually done is worth your admiration. Money isn't the same as achievement.
I don't see you making millions. What has she done? Let's see...
-Started a TV show on Disney, currently watched by millions
-Kick started a singing career, making billions
Besides, being a teacher is the best job in the world. 8-9 hour days, weekends, holidays, and summers.
You think singing and dancing and having disney make a TV show for you entitles you to millions? Teachers do not have a nice job, they deal with kids who hate their guts. Oh, and did I mention that teachers are often required to get a masters degree (six years of college) for that privilege?
Most of the people who are super rich, have done FAR less then many professions that earn far less. (fire fighters, police, coal miners, etc.)
2 words: supply and demand. If what you are saying was true (that the "super rich" do "FAR less than many professions that earn far less", and the people in said professions could do what the "super rich" do), then they wouldn't be "super rich".

[hide=]If communism/socialism is such a nice system which helps the poor, then why has every time communism/socialism has being tried in a country, it has became a dictatorship, and had some sort of mass murder/genocide?
Yes, Finland has no freedom of press, is full of murder, and is a dictatorship, all due to socialism.
Since when was Finland communist/socialist?[/hide] Just a few bits of reading about political suppression & genocide in communist/socialist states:

Yep, the "far right" and "far left" have a lot of similarities for supposed polar opposites.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_finland
Finland has a highly industrialized, free-market economy with a per capita output equal to that of other western economies such as France, Germany, Sweden or the UK. The largest sector of the economy is services at 65.7 percent, followed by manufacturing and refining at 31.4 percent.Although public spending there is higher than the European average, mixed, not socialist.

Good, people need to stop being stuck in the past.

Communism is an economic ideology, not a form of government. Most attempts of communism have been authoritarian forms of communism, with great social control through a strong state, but many great communist philosophers have disapproved of this form. Marx himself was an anarchist.
Left-wing economics require a strong state to enforce, though. (Unless everyone agreed to enforce them off their own accord).

Socialism = OMGORWELLIANISM.
True story.
Yeah it's a great system which helps the poor, only 100 million or so have died from it right?
A valid jibe, considering democracy has only ever created sunshine, rainbows and happy faces wherever it has gone.
Thanks for admitting communism/socialism and democracy cannot coexist? :\ and I consider attempting to deny (or even worse, justify) the mass murder carried out in China, Russia etc just as bad as attempting to deny the holocaust.
Funny how you mention the Massacre of and the Holocaust, when they aren't valid points here. They can coexist, provided you break down each system to their simplest forms. The best I could pull from them is as so:
Democracy: 2 parties control some of the country, uses a voting system.
Communism: One ruling party, but everyone works together and gets their fair share
Socialism: Redistribution of wealth, and helping the poor.
If communism/socialism is such a nice system which helps the poor, then why has every time communism/socialism has being tried in a country, it has became a dictatorship, and had some sort of mass murder/genocide?

I'd always thought the IB favoured breadth over depth? That may make it harder but I didn't think it went into quite as much detail compared to certain A-levels (i.e. Further Maths).
About the same depth as A-level from what I understand.

Jagex doesn't "like" anyone, all they care about is making little kids happy so they can get their parents money.
-
Get over it or quit - I actually congratulate Jagex for making a quest which isn't as simple as just teleport around a few cities mindlessly.
-
Supply and demand
Get used to it - the price will probably drop by 60%+ in a few weeks when the people sad enough to waste billions on getting it on the first week are bored, and when more of them are in the RS economy.
-
I'm not sure what's saddest; actually playing for that many years without quitting, lying about playing that many years without quitting or ranting about it on a forum.
-
Just quit RS, it's a crap game and less than 5% of the players have a mental age over 12.

What exactly is an ' IB Diploma '? Is it like the UK form of AP (college level classes in high school)
And good luck to all who are taking it.
This pretty much explains it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IB_Diploma_Programme
If I got the chance to do it I'd still do A-levels simply because I wouldn't be able to stand having to do subjects I didn't like (especially having to do a language)
-
From what I understand the workload is much higher than A-levels, don't really know that much about it though.

If the industrial revolution hadn't happened, you'd be in a factory somewhere making clothes or carving wood instead of sitting there wondering about it.
Factories are largely a product of the Industrial Revolution. And it's not as if many people in the world aren't stuck working in factories making clothes and doing other menial labor tasks. This is a pretty complex and fertile topic which I won't get much into, but I would like people in this thread to think of the results of the Industrial Revolution not just from their own perspective but also from that of the majority of the people in the world who have a life drastically different from that of the average American/European/Australian/etc...
In industrial and (post-industrial) countries, even the poorest people are better off now than the richest people where pre-IR, and in undeveloped countries.
-
No, it doesn't work. The top tax band in the UK used to be something like 90% in the 1970's which might as well have being a maximum wage - and that didn't work very well, rich people just left the country or evaded it in other ways to avoid paying it. (the amount of money raised from income tax actually increased when the top rate was reduced to 40-something%).
Homework, a Help or Hindrance?

The time in lesson alone isn't really enough to understand things properly, also it's easy for people to just coast along doing no work of their own in lessons, so some form of independent study is needed. And 14 year old nerds who if they could, would drop out of school and play RS/WOW all day won't do it unless it's mandatory - that's why homework is needed.
