Nintendo and Squaresoft teamed up to make "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" on the SNES. Like the title says, it's an RPG using characters and locations from the Mario world. The story starts off like usual, Princess gets kidnapped by Bowser, so Mario goes to save her. During the rescue, a large sword crashes through Bowser's castle, and everyone is blasted off somewhere in the world. With the bridge being destroyed, Mario goes off to find Princess Toadstool and eventually learns of the Star Pieces. The battle system is turn based style. You can see your enemies on the maps, so no random battles. In battle, each button is assigned to a command, attack, item, defend/run, and special attacks. You could influence the strength of attacks by pressing a button at the right time, or rotation to control pad. An example, one of the jump attacks that Mario has can be prolonged if you time to button presses. The game also had good graphics, they looked like they were 3D, but I'm not sure how they did it. That's pretty much the game in a nutshell, and how I remember it :P. Could'nt have said it any better myself. :)
