Whip vs. Godsword
I'm afraid i cant remember the exact source, but im sure it was j mod confirmed that agility has a (minor) affect on ranged def, and that is the reason for karil's set effect. dfs is generally not the most useful shield for melee except when tanking it's true, but i'd advise you consider other uses too: Minor improvement when killing dragons, major boost when ranging in arma: you get a decent def for just tanking. in clan wars it's key for all rangers or mages. then again, if you do none of the above, yeah, not worth it

Whip vs. Godsword
considering that there are now 3 methods for getting over 1m an hour and the better part of a dozen that pull in over 500k an hour gp as guaranteed cash, i dont see how that is a serious obsticle? The choice of shield depends on what other armour you have as much as anything. I've seen people wearing some outright stupid attempts at gear recently, claiming it to be good. Comes to something when you see people trying to crash bandos in a torso.

Whip vs. Godsword
obby shield is junk, so I don't know why you seem to want it. the second choice if you cant get dfs (not that money is hard to get) is blessed spirit shield, or crystal shield. remember obby is weaker than rune, and that str bonus is insignificant. I'd still recommend a defender though, the accuracy makes the whip not far behind the godsword so it can really achieve it's potential. Verac skirt and helm with one of the barrow plates, bandos boots, and the usual trimmings should give you plenty of defence and prayer bonus. You'll only have to worry about mage, but a high mage level yourself helps a lot with that. Also worth commending: agility has a minor affect on ranged defence.

Whip vs. Godsword
obby shield? lol! In normal circumstances the whip is 19% faster damage than a godsword, caused by the 50% faster attacks of the whip vs the 11.25 higher max on the godsword. however, once the target's def goes up the dropoff rate of sucessful hits is faster for a whip than a godsword, even with a defender. Not to mention the specials (particularly bandos godsword) are useful. Because of this a godsword is better on high def targets. I'd like to suggest the following though: Curses + whip + defender > Curses + godsword. leech the defence down far enough and the whip will start hitting easily again.

Costume Room guide
aye, low priority, just making sure it's somewhere on the long list of things needed to do to please everybody :P
-
Costume Room guide
A minor note but of some significance to players using this guide: The guide only shows a single set of naval outfits. This is inaccurate: the armour case takes ALL SETS of naval outfits, requiring you to get all 6-7 sets from trouble brewing in order to fill your costume room.

Vyrewatch Killing - Shades minigame extension
I do actually recommend attack / super attack pots, but recommend AGAINST using str pots once you've got a few upgrades to the flail as they'll have next to no benefit it's under "notes on kills" just before the drops section

Skill Calculators & Planners
it's working now, maybe i just caught it at a bad time :P

Skill Calculators & Planners
for some reason, while the new calcs show "exp to level" and "exp gained" fields they do not fill in with any values. I have got the correct name in and it is seeing my starting exp, it is calculating the end exp and level, but these new features (great idea btw) are not functioning. I've checked on herb, smith and craft calcs so far [Crew edit: Tritous, we have added a note to the planners to help instruct with this, thanks for pointing it out.]

QuestRanker
NEWS!!! Version 5 available sorry it took so long to come out, but at least when it did I added extra features. Now it is much more streamlined, the old bugs have been settled, and it is faster to use since you don't need to type someone's full name to find them in the list. Any problems or comments please tell me, I still don't consider this a perfected program.

QuestRanker
Lmao, after around 3 months of looking on and off I think I've found the cause of the fault in sorting: when inputting I wasn't flushing the input first, so a residual linefeed character would get put as part of the input. As it's at the start of the name it wouldn't display, but would lexographically show as before any character when sorting. Now when loading up again it would get filtered out as my read function clears whitespace when parsing. go figure. Hopefully that will be fixed in the version I'm working on now

achievement diary maps
Firstly; cheers to those who made the current maps. while I've not used them (i finish content fast) they are a good idea. So my idea is how to take these from being a nice idea to being the ultimate essential when doing diaries. Currently the map just displays marked points. Given some of the other maps, there is scope to make these maps interactive. Mouseover on any point should give a popup showing not just the description of the task but the items required for it. This would be an indispensable aid in planning routes around tasks.

Download Accellerators
your bandwidth speed and download speed arent the same. In particular a torrent or stream is limited by the whole length of the connection. I'm with Virgin, and they apply a 75% throttle to anyone who exceeds a threshold of 3GB in a 5 hour period in mornings, 1.8GB in evenings, non limited at night (for my package, varies for other packs). The throttle applies for 5 hours, or resets in 1 hour if you cut all useage (unplug). TBH, that's rarely an issue, even video streaming doesnt that easily break that unless you are hammering things out in HQ. But buying a game that has a 4.3GB file, a 1GB expansion, and it cutting out halfway and having to restart the download....that breaks threshold. I rarely download anything tbh, so i've not bothered with an accellerator in years. Certainly it'll be rare i download anything intense enough to get throttled my end, but sometimes it's frustrating if it's something 100MB and it's going insanesly slow their end... I use Google Chrome so firefox based accelerators wont work, hate firefox anyway
-
Download Accellerators
I know how they work yeah, it's particularly good when the host site is throttling so it can handle the traffic. DAP used to be good, but more and more these days they are all junk. I've heard a few things about internet download manager, but it's a pity it's only trial. Atm the site I'm getting it off is direct 2 drive, but I know it's the ISP limiting me atm. My concern is that atm it's predicting 8 hours. the throttle should finish at 10pm but as i have work in the morning i wont be up late. I'm wondering if it would be fast enough to download overnight or not since like most downloads it's playing the gradually get slower game...
-
Download Accellerators
Yeah, well I thought the need for download accelerators was long gone, yet here I am waiting for a 4.2gb download to drip along because it's being throttled (oblivion, finally decided to buy it) and nothing is more annoying than seeing 2 hours remaining, after an hour shopping trip, go up to 3 hours remaining. So, DAP has been rubbish for years, but what else is out there? What download accellerators are there with no rubbish ad ons, adware, bugs, compatibility problems and no issues in getting rid of it (it's rare i download things anyway)

QuestRanker
really it's little more than an offline database and hardcoded formatter. Any clan you want could use it, but it wont link in to an applet or site so easily. As expected the whole name change thing makes things hell. I'm tempted to make a feature to change names to make it a little easier, but free time is low these days what with work. I'll get around to it eventually though so watch this space

New Times! - Excl Interview and more!
Did Jagex Do The Right Thing? I at the time did and still do agree with the policy Jagex took up. Actually I know very few who would disagree, although sometimes I feel their solution could have been a bit more elegant. While i never pked and dislike pking anyway, I do know enough that the old way is long gone, the new artificial way is nothing like the same thing although i know lots of people who love it and lots who hate it. One correction though: the bots were NEVER the cause of the shark prices crashing. It was purely a forum scam to manipulate price. it started with about 100 players spamming the forums with "sell sharks 950ea". anyone who actually read these prices would see 4 pages of complaints to the lines of "you are never on", "please sell me" etc. the next day it was 900, then 850. Anyone who looked at the forums would clearly see sharks were at 850, a drop from 1100, yet not a SINGLE shark sold. It took a single week for them to drop the prices from 1100 to 500, then another week for 500-350 before they were banned. Reason I remember this so clearly is I happened to have 79k monkfish to sell that week after a long time fishing. lobs were down to 100 ea, monks at 200 ea. I managed to sell 79k monks (cooked too) at the old price of 350 ea by determination and cheesy sales lines in w18 edge, even with people selling sharks at 400 next to me. it took 3-4 weeks for it to recover, and after it settled back to 900. It took bots years to bring prices from 2k ea down to 1k ea, the 300 wasn't them. Yews was purely bots though, as were flax, ess and probably a few ores. We Now Return to Your Regularly Scheduled Grinding tis true. I wouldnt say the grinding is something I enjoy, but I seem to do it anyway. life is strange like that

QuestRanker
Update: version 4.3.2 out. Bit better contact info if you need help with it, improved some of the working although still seem to get occasional bugs with the orders within a rank. i'll probably fix that in version 4.4 once i find the smegging cause. already made a 4.3.3 but since that was only a title name constistancy change i dont think that justifies rerelease just to rename questlister to questranker you'd think a simple primary key downward, secondary upwards would work with an insert sort? It's that it "sometimes" works, and that it always seems to break for the same person that it is odd. On the bright side, that i use this 10-15 times a day does i give me some practical experience, and I may consider a couple of other minor tweaks

Experience per Hour
50 abyss trips an hour is quite doable. A lot of serious rcers have done tests (min 10 hours) and average 72 seconds including minor errors. It's very easy to start adding on seconds through not concentrating, going the wrong way around the inner abyss circle, running past the mage instead of directly to him, etc. if you are taking 85 seconds it means you arent focussing. If you use a 3 pouch system (popular with kyatts) to take 49 per trip you save yourself a few seconds, but not enough to counter that you are taking a lot less ess. Bloods are better if you look at the prices being very very different to deaths these days. and it doesn't exactly take you that far. 5% more exp means it would have to take 3.6 seconds longer to ruin the exp advantage. A click doesnt take long I don't think mousekeys works on blackjacking. you have to knock out, then pickpocket twice in one second (each of those being a right click action, so 6 clicks on different positions per second). Mousekeys isnt so good for moving the mouse quickly, only for clicking fast. Mining, i was at dorgesh mines. it's not that bad banking and there is plenty of rock, and varrock armour naturally. Granite isn't as good as people commonly believe at lower levels. It does pick up later but it's really quite a pest dropping it, getting crashed, etc. I wasnt exactly timing that accurately though. Red salas: the spawn points tend to drop the salamanders in places where they are obstructed from getting to the trees. Oranges the salamanders more or less spawn and walk into the trap: much like chins do sometimes. with only 3 trees they still catch so fast that you have to run constantly just to keep setting the traps, and those trees are within 4 squares of each other in a triangle. Talk all you like about using parcel service to bank teaks...but can you tell me if, when you say it's faster than dropping, you include the time taken to get the 380 trading sticks (10 per item + 100 to get back into enclosure)? If you arent then I don't count your method: It's not like you just randomly happen to have 100k trading sticks handy. 2-3k maybe, but 10 invents hardly counts as training

Experience per Hour
The values I experienced seem nothing like what others are answering, and I really question the truth in what some people say. I cant give answers for your level, only the answers i've experienced myself at the levels I've tried, or the levels I had people accurately test with. Combat at Armored Zombie - 110k an hour with whip, considerably lower with ss, dont dream of using anything slower Combat at Zombie Monkeys - 80k an hour unless you are trying to peity too, which isn't going to last long. Note: this is about the same speed as slayer for training, where the slayer helm provides the boosts you normally have to pray for Runecrafting Deaths via Abyss - abyss is 50 trips an hour, 40-45 if you arent concentrating (let's be honest, but abyss is still very fast). that's 25.5k an hour at your level, up to 30.5k at 75 rc. Bloods are better btw. Runecrafting Natures via Ghaak at via Abyss. Via graak, estimated about 24k an hour, maybe 28 when you get giant pouch (using all 4 pouches can hinder you since you dont get the 7 slots from a summon too, the extra banking isnt justified by the extra slots). By abyss 22.9k. Graah is slightly faster per run, but you do get less slots Runecrafting Double Cosmics via Abyss. 20.4k. abyss is the fastest way Construction Oak Doors: hard to measure since the butler just got sped up, but it's something bonkers like 300k an hour with sc hammers, 150k without. Construction Oak Larders: about 75% of above Agility Brawlers at Wildy Course: normally wildy course is only good for lvl 65-70 (other courses beat it at that point, brimhaven before it) where it is about 30-36k an hour. While it does get faster, atoll beats it so i cant speak for it other than it is below 42k an hour. That puts it at about 120-140k an hour with brawlers Agility at Ape Atoll: atoll's good range is from 70-80. Exp at this range is 42-45k exp an hour. Thieving at Pyramid Plunder (Level 75) There are some good thieving guilds around. I agree with 100k an hour ish Blackjacking Menap Thugs. At your level only around 150k an hour. Later you can hit 240k an hour, but dont expect over 210k without superhuman reflexes Crafting Green Dh Bodies - cant say Cutting Magic Longbows - cant say String Magic Longbows - cant say Hunting Red Chins (4 Traps) - dont bother before 80, they are quite slow then. I know they are worth it after 80 though Hunting Red Chins using Surrond Method (4 Traps) tbh, I dont consider this much different. Hunting Red Salamanders - again no exact figure, but orange salas are faster exp to 80. Reds have too few trees, the trees are exactly wrong for the spawns, etc. Mining Stars - trick question. You cant constantly mine stars. they are pretty good exp though when you get one, although clans like star find nerf it Powermining Granite. I was getting 30-40k an hour. I've heard it gets higher but you do go slightly insane Powermining Iron: 20-30k n hour Mining Brawlers with Addy/Mithril/Coal. Slow as hell. don't consider it an option. Fishing Monkfish - at 99 I get 42-48k an hour. Shilo Fly Fishing - 41.5k an hour average. because spots are both sides of the river it's very inconsistant Barbarian Fishing - up to 55-60k an hour but very click intensive because of dropping Swordfish fishing with SC harpoon at Swordy brawlers - harpoon and gloves? it's about 24-6k an hour with sword gloves, harpoon would double that but not for long Shark fishing - 11-14k an hour at 99 fish. dream on, you get better cash from monks too Firemaking Eucalpytus - cant say Firemaking Maples - cant say Woodcutting Willows - about 40k an hour at 70, 60k by 99 Woodcutting Yews - 40.5k an hoat 70, 73k by 99 (yes, i measured it very accurately in a race from 68-99 yews vs willows. yews won by 3m exp) Powercutting Teaks - dropping is fastest. 75k by 99 if you click fast

Picture request
For a guide I am writing I am looking for a number of pictures which are currently outside my budget. I'd like to request someone who has the gear to take a picture of their equipment page (with the stats) and post a link so that I can use it for my guide. Naturally I wouldn't ask anyone to buy gear for my sake, but a couple minutes while at the bank would be nice. I'm sure this thread can be reused by other people with similar requests. Currently there are 3 pictures I would like: Mage: Zuriel Top, Zuriel Bottom, Statius Helm, Infinity Boots, Onyx Ring (i), Arcane Spirit Shield, Zuriel Staff, Fury Amulet, God Cape (mage arena), Barrow Gloves. Defensive Melee: Statius Helm, Statius Body, Statius Legs, Vesta Longsword, Divine Spirit Shield, Dragon Boots, Barrow Gloves, Onyx Ring (i), Fire Cape, Fury Amulet Offensive Melee (similar to above): Statius Helm, Statius Body, Statius Legs, Vesta Spear, Dragon Boots, Barrow Gloves, Onyx Ring (i), Fire Cape, Fury Amulet At some point it's possible I'll be looking for a ranged set, we'll see. You can probably guess from above what the gear is to be used for :P Thanks in advance for your time edit: I've got a temporary picture of offensive melee just without the ring. tbh the stats have me a little scared lol. anyone who can give me the pic with the ring too it would be great.

QuestRanker
small note: I'm aware that after you add/update someone and it says updated sucessfully the name and qp sometimes displays the first person on the list or null. It doesnt effect the program working, it still all saves normally, so no need to worry. second note: it seems that if you add/update someone to just below max qp (in the master category) they get put to first place and ignore the alphabetical sort. Why this is I'm not sure, and a glance at my sorting method doesnt seem to throw up any problems. It's no disaster, but I thought I'd let you know. if anyone finds where it's gone off in the code i'd appreciate a buzz. Interestingly it does put things back in place if someone else is added / updated so wonder if just a second sorting would solve it?
-
QuestRanker
I'm my clan's quest promoter, so to be being f2p is the only excuse to have low qp, not that I'm biased of course in reality i've always found that while the most annoying part was the constant reordering of the table and ranks (hence the program) the most difficult part is getting members to actually submit their qp to you

Vyrewatch Killing - Shades minigame extension
Cheers for that, and glad you enjoyed the killing I'll add that to the database in a few hours when i've got some free time, I'm currently working a little on my QuestTracker thread :P
