I checked those out and the cheapest decent (I think) 500 GB HDDs were only about $40 less than the 1TB HDD I currently have on my list. I'm no expert, but I think $40 for another 500GB is a pretty good deal. It is Hitachi, however. Is there anything wrong with those? Again, if anybody knows anything about choosing essential parts (Motherboard, Memory, SSD, Cases, CPU, etc.) please let me know. Even if it's something like a mouse, I'd appreciate it. I'm very new to all of this and so far you guys have been a wealth of information. I really appreciate all you're doing. I just realized that my PSU isn't modular. How will that affect the assembly?

I just remembered we have an old computer that has a 250GB HDD. Is there any way I can combine it with a 500GB HDD? That'd probably last me until prices go down. That's to transfer the contents of my laptop to the desktop. It's cheap and it couldn't hurt to have for the future. I'll keep the air one Askthedude suggested for now for cost reasons. It will still work well, right? Can you recommend a 500GB 7200RPM HDD for me? What are things I should keep in mind when looking for certain products? This thread has actually taught me a lot so far, but I don't know enough to really search for things on my own. For example, I now know that when looking for a HDD I need to consider the RPM as well as how much it can actually hold. What else do I need to know about different parts? If there's a guide any of you know of and you could link me to it, that'd be great.

Banjo-Kazooie is probably the most nostalgia-filled game for me. I played it so much when I was little. I remember being scared of the shark that appeared in a couple of the levels. Now that I think about it, I never actually beat it. I've never been in the last level.

Due to flooding of factories recently HDD prices have soared and aren't expected to be back to what they were untill late 2012. Depends if you're going to need the 1TB or not, your choice. Isn't it black friday sometime soon? Might be worth waiting till then to see what bargains you can grab if you aren't desperatly in need of a new computer. Oh, that sucks. I can live without the 1TB for a while. I'll need it eventually. I'll wait until black Friday until I buy anything. I totally forgot about that. How do I determine which 500GB HDD is "good"? I'm starting to look at combos, but I don't know if certain parts are any good. For example, I found this, but I have no idea if the motherboard is as good as the one I currently have. I don't really care what the case looks like, as long as it holds everything well.

I switched everything you said and the total is now $1,083.67. I'm guessing I just missed some deadline or something on one of the items that brought the price back up. I'm willing to drop down to a 500 GB HDD if the prices will go down significantly in the future. What do you recommend? The guide I initially used said you could get a 1TB HDD for $60. No idea how reliable that information is. Will SSD prices go down too? If so, I'd be willing to drop that too for now.
