  1. I honestly think we were to much for ourselves in that game. Auburn did not impress me at all, neither did their hyped up QB. Shot ourselves in the foot with some blown coverages which gave them some big plays. We controlled 3 quarters of that game, they got us in the 3rd. Still proud of this Clemson team, one of the toughest i've seen in a long time. We still got the ACC to play for, i'm not worried. We looked good.

Other then that, all of my predictions in the first post now look crazy. The ACC has really let me down.

  2. So it's locked in a closet? Going to be pretty difficult to grab that in the heat of the moment, eh?

And as someone's already iterated, I doubt even a trained soldier could manage to run and grab a gun before the person pointing it at him shoots.

No, they are hidden in a closet. Not in plain view like your previous post implied. This is not the 1800s, and people do not keep them by the door anymore.

So it's locked in a closet? Going to be pretty difficult to grab that in the heat of the moment, eh?

And as someone's already iterated, I doubt even a trained soldier could manage to run and grab a gun before the person pointing it at him shoots.

If the gun is pointed at his head and he is unarmed, at that point he would cooperate. But if he was in his study and heard something coming from the living room, he could easily grab the gun he has hidden in his desk and confront the person. Hopefully without having to use it.

Taking guns away from civilians only makes life easier for the criminals. If you were a criminal would you try and steal from people who may have a gun and be trained how to use it? Of course not, you'd want to steal from an area where all firearms are illegal.

    Precisely.

  3. Again. I go back to the Stupid decisions. Who in their right mind leaves their guns out? Not everyone even has one of those wood and glass display boxes. At the most its unlocked in a closet but not sitting out where you could see it and grab it. But in your highly unlikely scenario, I grab my other and put an Armor Piercing .30-06 round through is head.

  4. I'm in the military, i've been trained in lethal force. What about me, are you going to exclude me? Please. There are a lot more people out there trained enough, and just as much as police officers in firearms and deadly force. You and your select base of contacts are a VERY small portion of the population. So you not knowing someone in a situation like that is not surprising, and should not be your basis for arguments.

But thats fine, you can have your opinion. My opinion is my house, my family, and myself are safe.

  5. I personally feel that any weapons of defense should only be reserved for the army and police. Other than guns for hunting, collecting and shooting on a range for sport, I don't think civilians should have guns. Obivously I'll be disagreed with and told its for self-defense purposes, but its for that reason as well as to why there are people who illegally possess guns. The second amendment was formulated in a time when America was mostly frontier and there wasn't really a well developed police/army force. Times change, as should laws.

Off-topic: I don't understand people's obsession with exacting "justice". Exacting justice will not undone the effects of an injustice, it will not bring the dead back or anything of the short and the "eye for an eye" mindset we have really doesn't work because when people are arrested in America they don't have themselves made an example of (i.e. like a public execution because that would be "barbaric" and yet there's such a strong desire for revenge) and than they get a free room, food, exercise time, television and education. So jailing someone is not a scare tactic, it is decently nice if you have nothing as you receive a lot of free aid and you have the possibility of obtaining contacts. This horrible failure of a system is because it is a fusion of rehabilitating criminals and punishing them, so we lie to ourselves by saying they're being punished while they are pampered without any rehabilitative measures.

Whos going to protect you in your own house if something arises? The police? How far away are they? By the time they get dispatched and arrive on scene it could EASILY be to late. Castle Doctrine baby, gotta love it.

I do believe someone mentioned people not needing assault rifles (which doesn't always mean automatic weapons) but I beg to differ. There are many sports in which these firearms are required:

    Many hunters use these firearms

    Three-gun target matches

Camp Perry competitions, especially the Service Rifle events

    DCM/CMP competitions

    Bodyguard simulations

Personal protection is fine, but let's leave the firearms to the cops who are really qualified to use them. If you feel the need to carry a firearm for personal protection then I'd say you're likely to use it.

The US courts have consistently ruled that the police do not have an obligation to protect individuals. Main case in hand is Warren v. District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department where 3 roommates were held captive, raped, robbed, beaten, and forced to commit sexual acts upon one another and to submit to the attackers' sexual demands for 14 hours. FOURTEEN GODDAMN HOURS.

Gun control has not worked in Washington D.C. The only people who have guns are criminals. We have the strictest gun laws in the nation and one of the highest murder rates. It's quicker to pull your Smith & Wesson than to dial 911 if you're being robbed.

That is an actual quote from Lt. Lowell Duckett, Special Assistant to DC Police Chief.

Eventually i'll enter the CMP and Camp Perry matches, been itching to shoot my M1 Garands more. Glad someone else knows about these.

  6. Slightly oxymoronic topic title, when guns come into play stuff mostly go out of control.

And i think it shouldve went illegal during the columbine high school thing.

Why? Because a stupid parent didn't lock their gun safe and the kids got the guns?

More likely because two kids bought ammo at the wall mart and bought a gun legally and then shot 12 students and one teacher.

But your explanation is probably more likely!

No. They were both minors (as far as handgun laws go), and the buying or acquiring of the guns was illegal any way you turn it.

  7. Slightly oxymoronic topic title, when guns come into play stuff mostly go out of control.

And i think it shouldve went illegal during the columbine high school thing.

Why? Because a stupid parent didn't lock their gun safe and the kids got the guns?

  8. *Points to Chicago with it's gun laws*

*Points to [insert redneck community here] with lenient gun laws*

Gun laws really aren't going to stop serious criminals, I think.

Though there really is no need for a civilian to have a fully automatic rifle.

Why? Have you shot one before? They are very fun to shoot. Most of you here against it assume people will be shooting people and you instantly exclude all of us responsible firearm owners. Point is, in responsible hands any type of gun can be safe and a great time. And

  9. I find your logic to be ridiculous Y_Guy. No I would not shoot him for trying to rob me of $100. Staring down a barrel is enough for most people, you don't have to pull the trigger, that would be a stupid decision i'm talking about. And collecting and shooting go hand in hand. Not every collector is one that collects a museam type of collection. Some have both. And honestly, if the gun fires its worth a lot more then if it didn't.

So instead of taking away guns completely, why not offer training for them? Why not make it a requirement before you purchase them? Either in the form of proving you have the training or having to take the training.

  10. Yes I would object. I have no need for a tank thats why I don't care if its illegal. What I do care about is my home protection, and personal protection. I am a concealed carry license holder and carry a gun anywhere I go (except unlawful places like school, stores with posted signs etc). I also love to hunt, shoot on the range, and collect firearms. So yes, I would object strongly if they were illegal. It only takes that one time not carrying to end up dead. Better safe then sorry.

Trigger happy soldiers are not the only ones. There are far more crimes in the streets (Oakland, LA, NY, Baltimore) then most people realize. The difference? Those are illegal guns, serial numbers scratched off, and the person using it has no formal training. A little firearms safety classes go along way. I was given my first gun at the age of 12, but I was also taught how to use it properly and was restricted to when I could even touch it. The problem is people making stupid decisions with a gun. Its that stupid decision to leave the safe unlocked with kids in the house, or to shoot the guy that honked his horn at you. Stupid decisions kill people, not guns.

  11. The question is, if the Constitution was rewritten today would the modern equivalents of the founding fathers still write in the 2nd Amendment? Nobody questions the fact that it's a constitutional right to be able to bear arms, the question is whether or not it's really what's best for America today.

This is actually false. There's a lot of debate about what it means, and I'd argue that it's not a right to individually bear arms. In the context with the law and the intent of the founders, it's clearly about the ability for an army to be raised, as Jefferson did not want a national military for fear of being involved in other country's conflicts or in the case of a tyrant imposing a police state.

The Latin etymology also seems to suggest this:

By legal and other channels, the Latin "arma ferre" entered deeply into the European language of war. Bearing arms is such a synonym for waging war that Shakespeare can call a just war " 'justborne arms" and a civil war "self-borne arms." Even outside the special phrase "bear arms," much of the noun's use echoes Latin phrases: to be under arms (sub armis), the call to arms (ad arma), to follow arms (arma sequi), to take arms (arma capere), to lay down arms (arma pœnere). "Arms" is a profession that one brother chooses the way another choose law or the church. An issue undergoes the arbitrament of arms." ... "One does not bear arms against a rabbit...

"Bear Arms" refers to military service, which is why the plural is used (based on Greek 'hopla pherein' and Latin 'arma ferre') – one does not bear arm, or bear an arm. The word means, etymologically, 'equipment' (from the root ar-* in verbs like 'ararisko', to fit out). It refers to the 'equipage' of war. Thus 'bear arms' can be used of naval as well as artillery warfare, since the "profession of arms" refers to all military callings.

And how far does one take it if one believes in the individual right? Do individuals have the right to own a tank? Etc.

Though I don't see it as a protected individual right, you're not going to see me argue in favor of much gun control in the US because of how Western Cowboy people are about their guns. The time to change this mentality with gun control measures has long since passed.

No because a tank is against federal and state laws. Simple handguns and long guns are not. Technically yes the constitution would give you the right to have a tank, but laws will not allow it so it supersedes it. You have to remember, militia back then was volunteers, so they provided their own weapons, own uniforms, etc. So really, it is talking to the individual. Individuals have the rights to bear arms so then if the need arises they can form that well regulated militia. The militia is not "owned" by the government, simply controlled and organized by such, hence the well regulated part. So they really have no right to disarm the militia.

Guns don't kill people, bad decisions do.

  12. Man the ACC just threw my predictions and hopes out the window this past weekend. TERRIBLE. VT losing to James Madison??? Sucks for VT.

My Clemson boys have a tough one AT Auburn this week. Hope we can save some face for the ACC, if we win we will be a favorite for the ACC race and have big momentum going into our 4th game against Miami.

  13. "A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." Take the people's guns that shouldn't legally own them. And take all of those illegal guns off the streets....but i'm keeping mine. I hold that right by the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution to the United States, and I purchased them legally. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ Americans owning guns is what won us the American Revolution, and its been our history ever since. So again, ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ.

While the situation is fishy, I side with the gun dealer. He is in the state of Texas and was presented with a Texas DL. In Texas for a FTF (Face to Face purchase) all he needs to see is residence in Texas. Texas law only mandates you to not knowingly sell a firearm to someone whom cannot legally possess the firearm. The seller is not responsible to prove beyond a reasonable doubt the eligibility of the purchaser. If it was in a gun shop yes, you would have to fill out the 4473, and NCIS check. Also, it should be noted that the only requirements to purchase in a shop in Texas is being of age and a Texas DL....a gun show isn't much different. Wrongfully arrested IMO.

  14. There are waivers for everything, literally...drugs included. I wouldn't think it would be a problem if you don't currently take meds for it or it hinders you. You don't have to shine anymore btw and ironing is very minimal. ;)

Best thing to do is build up your core strength and stamina. Mental toughness is good too.

  15. I agree the mourning needs to move on, but its a significant event people fail to see that. This was American History being written. And from now on it will be in every American History textbook on the shelves. Not because of the amount of people that lost their lives, but it was the first real, successful, attack on the US lower 48 by an outside source since 1775. Thats huge. That sends shockwaves. The only one in between that was Japan's attack on Hawaii. I think the most chilling thing is while watching a show on TV about it recently (Natl Geo or Discovery i don't remember), they had home video with these awful loud cracking sounds. Almost like a bullwhip crack played over a concert speaker setup. Then explained that, that was the sound of people jumping out of the WTC and hitting the concrete or glass below.

I was in biology class in the 10th grade when it happened. Joined the Marine Corps about 2-3 years later.

  16. All of you soccer fans, MLB fans, NBS fans, and NFL fans go home. Its time for some NCAA football action! Season starts in 6 days!! Who is your team? Whats your pre-season top 10? I'm a huge Clemson fan, and despite the loss of the best RB in the nation last year (who didn't get nearly enough credit), we have a very promising year ahead. I am PUMPED. I missed all of last season because I was in Iraq, I can't wait to get there on gameday of opening day.

My top 10 is looking like this:

    1 Alabama

    2 Boise State

    3 Florida

    4 Texas

    5 Virginia Tech

    6 TCU

    7 Oklahoma

    8 Nebraska

    9 Miami

    10 Ohio State

Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma all lost the star QB last season so we'll see who steps up. Florida has the best chance with Brantley. I think USC and Ohio State are overrated EVERY year, thats why you see Ohio State at #10 and USC not on the list. VaTech is going to turn heads this year, so is Miami. Being a fan of an ACC team, i'm in turn an ACC fan. I think a lot of people will be surprised with the ACC this year. Up until yesterday UNC was looking like a national powerhouse preseason, but more NCAA violations are coming and its not good in Chapel Hill right now. This is how I think the ACC and SEC will turn out this year:

    SEC

    East

    1. Florida

    2. South Carolina

    3. Georgia

    4. Kentucky

    5. Tennessee

    6. Vandy

    West

    1. Alabama

    2. Auburn

    3. Arkansas

    4. LSU

    5. Miss St

    6. Ole Miss

Florida and Alabama could EASILY be topped this year. Florida will get beaten by either South Carolina or Georgia, Alabama can get beaten by either Auburn or Arkansas. So these could always change. South Carolina, they have something brewing. Steve Spurrier is way to optimistic this year, kind of scary. Auburn is my dark horse for the SEC.

    ACC

    Atlantic

    1. Clemson

    2. FSU

    3. Boston College

    4. NC State

    5. Maryland

    6. Wake Forest

    Coastal

    1. VaTech

    2. Miami

    3. Georgia Tech

    4. UNC

    5. Duke

    6. Virigina

Of course I put Clemson up top. They are the defending Atlantic champions and my favorite. In all reality though, FSU could easily be up top, we will see. I don't see Miami beating VaTech, could happen but I doubt it. UNC would be higher without their off the field issues.

What to watch for during the season and my BOLD predictions:

-Miami will beat Ohio State on Sept 11.

-South Carolina will either beat Florida OR Alabama this year.

-UNC will give LSU a run for their money on Sept 4, possibly beat them.

-Florida State will beat Florida this year, and Oklahoma too.

-Va Tech will lose to Boise St on Sept 6.

-Nebraska will beat Texas for the last time in the Big 12.

-Lane Kiffin will continue to be the biggest Dbag in all of America, and prove to still be a terrible coach.

-Brian Kelly will fail at Notre Dame and the Irish will go on to another disappointing season.

-Rich Rodriquez could very well end up unemployed by the end of this year.

-Mark Ingram is once again the favorite to win the Heisman.

-Jimbo Fisher will be the savior of FSU football and a good replacement for Bobby Bowden.

-The Pac10 will be [garden tool] hum this year, whoopie Pac10 football.....

-Joe Paterno very well could retire.

You won't find the passion or rivalries any place else. NFL has nothing on this, its easy to lose when you still get paid millions....here its all about pride. ITS TIME FOR SOME COLLEGE FOOTBALL. ARE YOU READY?! LETS GO!!!
