  1. I'm with you there. I want to see Lance win it. I'm not a huge cycling fan, but i've watched the Tour de France every year since about 2000. I kind of get excited every year. I love seeing the country as they ride through it and I think the sport is a great one.

  2. So a couple days ago, my computer locks up (first time EVER) and on restart it starts getting screwy. Now I can't even boot to safe mode. I've tried and tried and tried and only thing I can come up with is video card or HD issue. So I figure, nice....easy fix. Well, then July 4th rolls around and so do all the sales. Well, lets just say I went with a full on upgrade. :D Took advantage of the sales and my Iraq deployment money and put together a machine that I intend to keep building upon over the next few paychecks. Heres my current and old setup:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

    Video Card: GeForce 8800GT 512MB

    Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L

    HDD: WD 500GB 7200

    Ram: G.Skill 8GB DDR2

    PSU: CORSAIR 650W

    Case: Thermaltake Armor

    OS: Vista 64bit

    Heres my NEW setup:

    Processor: Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 480

    Mobo: EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR LGA 1366 X58

    HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB

    Ram: G.Skill Ripjaw 6GB DDR3

    PSU: CORSAIR 850W

    Case: CORSAIR Obsidian 800D

    OS: Vista 64bit

I will use the DVD drive out of my old computer in the new one, as well as my 2 Samsung 24" widescreens. Future plans include: Adding more ram, however the Mobo reads sticks best in 3's so 6GB works for now. 12 soon maybe? Also would like to SLI another GTX480 and plan to run water cooling (whether I SLI or not). A new keyboard is in my future too. I'll try and post some updates once I receive all the parts and start building next week.

  3. You can play with 3 people if you really wanted to...a pickup game can have as little or as many people as you want.

Also, is all the padding necessary? It's expensive and we play rugby with none, is there a particularly high risk of injury without it?

For a small pickup game, no probably not. In a real game, oh yes. Couple examples of why you would want to wear pads in a real game.

  4. Well its clear a lot don't prefer the "mainstream" rappers but Eminem went hard in his new single "Not Afraid". If its a taste of his new album to come then watch out.

  5. Small guilds rejoice....large ones....breakup. The end of 25 raids is upon us, and I think its a TERRIBLE change.

    Announced for Cataclysm today:

    * 10-Man and 25-Man raids will share the same lockout.

    * 10-Man and 25-Man raids difficulty will be as close as possible to each other.

    * 10-Man and 25-Man raids will drop the exact same loot, but 25-man will drop a higher quantity of items.

    * Normal versus Heroic mode will be chosen on a per-boss basis in Cataclysm raids, the same way it works in Icecrown Citadel

    * For the first few raid tiers, our plan is to provide multiple smaller raids. Instead of one raid with eleven bosses, you might have a five-boss raid as well as a six-boss raid.

  6.

Get these leeches off of us. Glad you have the balls to do it since the federal government won't.

Leaches? Talk about dehumanizing racist [cabbage], you're perhaps the worst on this thread. They pay taxes, they don't get a lot of the same services that citizens get, how are they leaches again? A lot of them are in the lower income bracket, so even if they were citizens they wouldn't be paying that much more in taxes than they are now.

So you are seriously going to sit there and believe illegals pay taxes? Get real. They get paid under the table, thats why its a big shock when its discovered a company employs a bunch of illegals. They don't pay taxes dude.

Like I said before, I'm not a racist I just hate those here illegally. You get a US Citizenship i'll fight and die for you and your family. Its really not that hard to get here legally...whats the big deal. Get a card, join the military, just come here legally! The whole reason we put the freaking citizenship and naturalization tests in Spanish was to cater to Mexican immigrants....use it! The test consists of 10 questions....yes 10 questions and you must get at least 6 right. Not that hard.

  7. So wait, you are against racial profiling being unconstitutional.....yet you dislike the idea of anyone being able to carry a weapon? LOL Well sir, the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." So please enlighten me how not requiring a concealed weapons permit is anything but a constitutional right.

What separates you? You are a citizen of the US, and assuming you are old enough you pay taxes and vote. Thats a huge separation. It doesn't have to be racial profiling. Pull over a car for a violation, just so happens to be a mexican, run his info and comes back illegal...bam busted, ship him off. Easy enough. DUI checkpoints, License checkpoints....variety of ways the state can get around the "racial profiling". You don't have to racially profile someone to pull them over for a busted tail light, speeding, not using a blinker, tag light out, etc...any minor violation is probable cause to stop a person and dig deeper.

    Again, go Arizona.

Gov. Jan Brewer signed the legislation Friday, citing border-related crime as a key factor. She also issued an executive order that requires additional training for local officers on how to implement the law without engaging in racial profiling or discrimination.
This law will allow local law enforcement in the course of their duties to question individuals in regards to their immigration status.
"The bill requires reasonable suspicion for officers to make contact and also contains language that allows officers discretion in enforcing the law," a statement on the group's website says. "Officers cannot stop a person based solely on race, color, or national origin."

People should really read more into it.

  8. You people are so naive its almost sad. Everyone racial profiles, and in a lot of cases it helps. You as a cop see a black man walking down the street at 1am in a predominantly white neighborhood dressed in dark clothes what are you going to do? Coincidence? Doesn't matter because you are still going to stop him. Same thing with a middle to upperclass white man in a known drug area at 12-1am. It does not make sense for him to be there. There is a problem with illegals in the US and if you can't see it your blind as a bat. The only way to combat it is to racially profile, one by one, and get them off our streets. Good on you Arizona, keep up the good work. Get these leeches off of us. Glad you have the balls to do it since the federal government won't.

The American Government has turned way to soft. Problem is no one wants to offend anyone and everyone wants to be politically correct. Screw that, wake up to the world.

  9. Go Arizona. Also the third state to allow concealed carry without a Permit. Set the standard for the US, Arizona. Arizona gives the rights back to the PEOPLE, the people OF the United States, and OF Arizona not someone who thinks they are. =D> What a great state Arizona sounds like, I need to move I think.

Immigrants are fine, I welcome them. But illegal immigrants can crawl in a hole and die for all I care. Come here illegally and enjoy your stay. Whats the big deal with taking the test? Hell they give it in spanish now (something I don't think is right anyway). Illegals have no right to be here, kick them out. All of them.

  10. Nice results. Huge change from the start to now. Keep it up. I notice the most change in the shoulder area and bicep to forearm.

I think Rick just wants to see you with your shirt off

    Lol.

  11. Yeah Airplane is one of my recent favorites. Both the version with Eminem and without.

I'm big on the real southern sounding rappers. Can't stand those from up north like 50, jay z, etc. Love T.I., Ludacris, Boosie, Jeezy, etc One exception is Wayne, can't stand him. His old stuff is decent but can't stand his new stuff. Lyrically I don't think you can beat Eminem or Ludacris, I find them to be the best in the game.

  12. I think it will peak about episode 8 and/or 9 then dip a little bit for episode 10 when Sledge starts his journey home. Yes, Sledge makes it. Part 8 and 9 will be very very powerful episodes, Iwo Jima and Okinawa respectively, two of the biggest battles of the pacific campaign and for the 1stMarDiv.

Its no surprise part 6 of The Pacific was great, Tony To directed it. He did one of the best parts of Band of Brothers too....Part 6: "Bastogne".

  13. I perfer Ludacris. One of the best with lyrics in the game. Eminem is up there too. Very particular about my rap, its either got to have that southern sound to it or be eminem, otherwise I won't listen.

Wayne is terribad. Ever since he hit that autotune he's sounded stupid. Go back to his early early stuff when he was just getting into it with birdman and its 10 times better. I'd much rather have Wayne be a Ft. on an album then do a song himself.

  14. I see weapons in that video. An RPG to be specific. Which is not legal to own. Each man can own 1 AK47, but no RPG. An RPG in a group of individuals...accessories? Its just like you being there if you friend committed a felony, even if you are standing away from him watching. You have to remember, 2007 was a big year in the war. One of the most deadliest for US troops, and a major troop surge. A lot of stuff was going on and the rules of engagement were still very open unlike they are now. One RPG can take down an Apache, one guy with the camera can put out a lot of propaganda.

I would like to see an RPG employed as an anti-aircraft weapon....

And what's really sad, is that the day this breaks, all anyone was talking about (at least not here) was Tiger Woods.

LMAO really? Ok, read Black Hawk Down then. Or just read this... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mogadishu_(1993) 3rd paragraph down if you can't find it. Also read the Engagement section. Thats not just one aircraft, thats TWO aircraft shot down by RPGs. But I didn't expect you to know that, you were probably close to 1-2 years old at that point.

  15.

Technology is way ahead these days, and I know its hard for most of you to believe, but we've decreased casualties with it.

And I disagree. One civilian killed is ok, as long as I take 2+ targets with them. Say 10 Taliban fighters/leaders were hold up in a house in Afghanistan, with 1 maybe 2 civilians. Would you take the chance and hit the house? Or wait until that civilian leaves and probably miss your chance for those 10 other targets? It'd be insane to wait. You hit the house.

looking at this overview, citing all it's sources, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Iraq_War, it's closer to 20 to 1 civillians to combatants dead. That shows a clear lack of restraint before fireing.

compared to WWII, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties, the ratio of civillian deaths is much much lower, 22-25 million soldiers to 43-46 million civillians.

compared to the first gulf war, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_War#Casualties, the ratio of civillan deaths is similar: ca. 100 000 civillians to ca. 11-12000 combatants.

It seems technology saves the soldiers, not the civillians, huh? America, saving its own, just as britain saves its own, and norway saves its own. we westeners have it good, don't we?

This movie has (at least in Europe) been condemed by all millitary personell (who have given commentary presented in the media) and the media, and been clearly labelled as a clear war crime. I don't know how radical you guys are, but claiming this is okay, is pretty far out there...

Did you miss that huge key word on the end of those numbers for WWII? MILLIONS. HUGE difference. And exactly THE MEDIA. The media finds the people that hate it, they find the stuff that will stir arguments up, and they will twist the truth.

People need to wake up. Sign up, go there yourself....please. See what happens there first hand. Walk the streets of Iraq or Afghanistan for a tour and i'm sure you'll change your tune. I love how most kids on this board that pretend to know politics and world issues because they watch one sided news reports, read bogus blogs, and play MW2 want to weigh in on this and call it wrong. PLEASE live it for yourself. You never hear about, or choose to pay attention to the good going on over there. Thats whats sick and disturbing, WAKE UP.

Sign up, and go see for yourselves. No balls.

Keep living in your fantasy world. Keep believing that no one can do no harm in the world and every "civilian" is innocent. While we continue to have harm done to us. You can let that guy go one day and the next day he'll kill one of our guys. Then what.

Your other option is to go join the west burrough baptist church.

  16. I think we can all agree that it's very stressful for the soldiers.

However that can't be an excuse for what we see on that video.

The truth in the end is, those sivilians were killed, and those soldiers live.

There is difference between the soldiers and the civilans is, the soldiers choose to go there, out of their free will. They are the indruders. They shouldn't be there in the first place. Those kind of 'mistakes' are bound to happen in the enviroment they created there.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how people time from time again fail to see the big picture. Don't you know the history? Haven't you learned anything from it? Nazi germany. Good example.

Kriegsmier, let me ask you a question. Would you have been a nazi if you lived in germany 1940? I'm pretty sure you don't agree with what nazis did back then. But most of the nazi soldiers weren't monsters, they were normal people just like you and me. Now, you just have to see that this situation we have in iraq today is really not much different from nazi germany. There were people back then who resisted and didin't go with the killings of innocent people.. and then there were those people who were weak. I'm pretty sure they used all kinds of excuses aswell. They must have been under alot stress too.

Think about it. One single civilian killed is too much. There is no excuses for this, stress, job, money, 'because i was ordered to'. No excuses. We as human beings can choose our actions. Those soldiers chose their profession. It was not a honest mistake.

I had no say whether I went to Iraq or not. Both times. I was told, it was an order, and I carried it out. Thats how the military works. I chose to join the military, but there is no free will about deploying like this. How am I supposed to answer that nazi question, its not 1940 and I have no idea what would happen if I were back then. Maybe? I support my country, and what hitler was feeding Germany really sounded good to them. They had no idea what was going on behind his schemes. I agree with fighting for what you believe in, so in a sense yes I do agree with what they did. These guys are normal people too (the video). They are just like you and the next guy, except they have an extra switch on the control panel that they can turn on and off again.

I was able to forgive the guys for shooting a couple of them because there were dark objects slung over their shoulders. That is fine, but what irked me is that not only did they continue to slaughter already wounded and clearly unarmed civilians, but then destroyed a rescue van with children in it. Even after they were done they mocked the dead civilians by laughing at a tank that ran over one of the bodies and laughed at the courtyard full of dead civilians, congratulating each other on such great marksmanship. These soldiers may have been on edge at the start, but judging by their reaction afterward they did not care if the people they shot were civilians or not. It's just disgusting.

That was a hmmwv not a tank. ;)

And the first thing you should do as a person behind the rifle is not get to know your victims other then what you see. You erase all of that out of your mind, it will eventually draw itself back....hence PTSD, but for right then you erase it all. Don't give them a face, don't give them a family, don't give them anything in your mind. Its war, its hell....sorry thats the way it is.

  17. I don't think it's very fair for any of us to judge these guys. Hindsight is 20/20 so we can look back on anything with an air superiority that we "knew better" and throw around words like "obviously that's a" or "cruel." The fact is, most if not all of us have never been in a real combat situation and the closest we've come to it is a climactic battle scene in MW2. The reason people here are comparing war to videogames is because that's their only experience of it, asides from a few bytes on the news.

Guess what, soldiers in Iraq are stressed. They are stressed because every last person and their dog is a potential aggressor. We are fighting an enemy that will strap a bomb to a kid and remote-detonate it. Where women conceal AK's and grenades under their clothing on the guise that their privacy will be respected. Is that a camera or an RPG? Do most of you even know what an anti-air weapon looks like if it isn't an RPG-7? Not all are long tubes, and many have tripods. Or maybe it was a camera and truly was a mistake.

Is that van carrying do-gooders or reinforcements? What weapons could they have stored in it? Perhaps radio equipment to notify the enemy of our position. Perhaps nuns who want to be humanitarians.

As for the cruel jokes? Dealing with stress. Many people try to deal with stress by macabre humor. Have you ever cracked an uneasy joke at a funeral? Made a sarcastic remark about something that is bothering you? I've seen many of you do the exact same and yet you judge these guys who are surrounded by death and the prospect that at any moment they will be dead.

Why is there so many instances of PTSD in modern wars compared to WW2? Not entirely because of "they know what they are doing is wrong" but because back in WW2/Korea, you generally had a good idea of who the bad guys were. In modern warfare, it can be anyone from an armed commando to a dog with dynamite strapped on.

The other major difference between modern warfare and WW2. We aren't carpet bombing anyone. We are going out of our way to minimize civilian casualties (of which there WILL be in war) yet our enemy shows no such respect and TARGETS civilians along with military personel. All the laser sights and thermal cameras in the world will not tell you who is truly friend or foe.

If they made a real videogame based on modern warfare, people wouldn't play it because you'd die too often and there wouldn't be a savegame to revert back to.

Thank you! Perfect. Best assessment in the thread so far.

I've seen dogs, cows, goats, sheep.....all wired with 3-4 rounds of 155mm rounds shoved inside of the carcass. I've seen them in cars, vans, trucks, and even up on light posts and sign posts so it blows up over your head. You know the kill radius of a 155? 30-50 meters, 100-150 meters for casualty. I've seen translators one day, become aggressors the next. The amount of stuff over there that can kill you is amazing. You have to avoid trash on the road (which is plentiful), and every single pothole. You have to watch each step you take while watching the surrounding rooftops. Everyone with a cellphone in their hand is a threat. Its not fun, its not a video game, its definitely not MW2. There are no red names above your head to show enemies from friendlies, and there are no respawns. This video is just used to cause an outcry, a lame attempt at propaganda.

It was a running joke in our Platoon about which vehicle would get blown up each day. "Oh man you're in #2 today? Sucks for you....you're already dead."
