  1. Using secret WMDs that were not publicized (and therefore not creating a deterrent effect) is not right wing extremism. :)

Neither is invading Mexico, annexing Canada, creating a Polish subject state, destroying said Polish subject state, invading Yemen, invading Oman, invading Madagascar, firebombing Turkey, firebombing Italy, creating an excessively large navy larger than all the world's navies combined, creating a massive warmongering army, breeding bear cavalry, using nuclear weapons as standard ammunition, invading Argentina, purchasing most of South America, or exploiting the rainforest for personal gain.

    Also annexing Canada

  2. First day of school was fun. The combination of forgetting to bring my lunch, terribly muggy air, a surprise thunderstorm, walking up a steep uphill slope, and the five textbooks that I needed to bring back home almost caused me to pass out (well, I don't have empirical data supporting that conclusion, but that's what it felt like).

Surprisingly it seems that the classes won't be as much work as I thought, so the primary challenge for the new school year is physical.

  3. 1) He can copy down a spell from a scroll that you scribed, but it needs to be on his spell-list and takes up a spell slot as if it was a wizard spell. (So using the wizard level)

    2) The Staff has five charges remaining

    3) 10 HD

    4) Yes

    5) Yes

    6) Yes, but it wouldn't really work with the ship attached to it

  4. That was a rather fast division. :-w

The closest cities from the Windward Isles are from closest to farthest:

    1) The New Kobold City on the Shackles - Ruled by the mysterious black kobold that killed Elgretor in their first encounter and a triumvirate of blue Kobold clerics (perhaps not three anymore though). The newest city-state in the Inner Sea, being founded only a month or so ago.

    2) Cheliax - Ruled by a devil-consorting noble class. This oppressive lawful evil totalitarian state is a rival of Absalom, but allied with them to defeat Captain Frega

    3) Absalom - Center of trade and freedom in the inner sea. They've faced corruption from the ruling party and a slow, inevitable decay, but they are still the most powerful city-state. They are also sworn enemies of Captain Frega and have led most expeditions to end piracy.

    4) Osirion - One of the oldest empires in existence, much declined from its peak. A center of necromancy and monarchy, but also generally isolationist in its slumber.

    ----

Also, forgot to mention. The wearer of the ring of navigation is also protected by the spell nondetection with caster level 20, hence why it hasn't been found yet. (So DC 35 to scry)

  5. Notable Looties:

Spirit Blade (48,502 gp) = +3 Ghost Touch Dagger + dispel magic 1/day

Tiger Pendant of the Jade Regent (Indeterminate price) = One of the fabled seven lost treasures of Tian Xia. Strong magical auras of all types, but powers currently unknown

Ring of Navigation (Indeterminate price) = Highly treasured by pirate captains and their hunters alike, this diamond ring is engraved with a map of the Eye of Abendego. When a strong light is shown through it, it projects a 3-D map of the hurricane. When near the hurricane, a chart indicating current weather conditions such as wind and water movements in the hurricane is superimposed on the 3-D map through its enchantments, allowing the user to treat all winds in the hurricane as one category less severe. Only members of the pirate council and even then, only some of them, possessed such a ring. None have currently been captured by powerful nations, but if they obtained one, it would make it possible for them to chase pirates right into the hurricane and possibly eliminate them once and for all.

(From Before) Feathers of a Firebird = The last remaining vestige of the mythical firebird and its only magical part. Currently inert, they can be activated by someone that the firebird could have befriended in its lifetime and given the proper ritual, create a new one.

Crystal Holy Symbol of a Mysterious God

Rod of Wonder (12,000 gp) = See SRD

Staff of Souls (16,400 gp) = See SRD

    Other things:

    12 Masterwork Falchions

    12 Mithril Chain Shirts

5000 gp worth of assorted gems

1000 pounds of silver worth 5000 gp

    10,000 gold pieces

Also there is a note that only appears on the first time that the light is put through the ring of navigation.

If you are reading this message, then you are powerful enough to bypass my maze of defenses. Or, I am dead, most of my defenses are gone, and you are one of my crew. In the case of the former, I have nothing more to say. In the case of the latter, then it is good that you are here. I hope you enjoyed the blood, it took a while to gather all of it. Hopefully I find you well. For the one that reads this, it's good that I've judged your character well enough to know that you'd hunt for the rumored treasure as soon as you were freed of the obligations of my crew. As you know, I am probably regenerating a new body as you read this and will contact you at some time in the future. Be careful of who you speak to and remember that the most important loyalty is the loyalty to one's fellow pirate.

    Captain Frega

  6. Physics?

How have you not taken Physics yet? Does your school only have it at higher levels?

Your schedule looks seriously messed up, do you even have an SS class on there? You should ask someone about it, I had to go through roughly a dozen schedule changes last year myself because I left it until school started.

    Well I haven't taken physics either. :)

  7. Score after the first session:

    Jen: 1

    Wades: 0

As revenge for the arrest of her friend Alice Weaver at the hands of the evil Wades, Jen pretends to be a high-class prostitute to gain entrance into Wades' city-house fortress and riddles him with bullets, before escaping his incompetent guards. Your move Wades. :)

  8. [spoiler=Alg]

Alice was skilled at theft, but apparently not skilled enough. Her hands found themselves in the back pocket of one Arthur James Balfour, who would later become the 1st Earl of Balfour. She was noticed, as she was so many times before, but before she could escape into the alleys, she was caught by the police. He was powerful, and the powerful frequently had mistresses. Alice had to stay out of prison to take care of her siblings. So they began their sordid affair. It turned out that it simply involved doing the housework and some covert assistance as he tried to woo his cousin May Lyttelton. mostly spying and noting down her favorite foods and flowers. But after his precious May died of Typhus, his lascivious advances turned to Alice. They were married the next day. He was alright, but his constant attention and pampering made her feel stifled, so she faked her own death a week later and fled.

    Aspect: Loveless Affair

Before her flight, she had spoken to her husband for 24 out of the 48 hours. Her husband stayed home to get to know her and "get to know her." They talked and talked about many things, from their lives to the politics of the day. She found out that her husband was an important politician and was aiming to become the prime minister. It was during this talk that she spoke well of the Jews and their need for a homeland. Her husband promised that he would do well for them. Alice was secretly Jewish herself and barely managed to bluff her way through their talk about good ol' Protestant Christianity. As Alice went to her "grave", he would always remember their talk and kept in mind the promises that he made for her.

    Aspect: Secretly Jewish

  9. Credits to Archi and Nex for thinking of some great aspects and backstory to finish mine.

    Name: Jen de Boer

    Magic: Nature

    Childhood

Jen was born in Pretoria, the capital of the Transvaal Republic, in 1856, on the very day of its independence. She grew up in a community of economically prosperous Dutch-settler farmers known as Boers. The idyllic Transvaal Republic was located in fertile farmland and incubated a fledgling democracy. As the new republic was surrounded by hostile Africans and had to subsist on its own agriculture, Jen was brought up in the arts of farming, riding, and shooting. Her skill became present in the community event of egg shooting and proved that she was capable of joining the Boer militia. Living such an unladylike life on the frontier would serve her well in some respects, but made her unable to understand the qualities and nicities of a settled lifestyle. From the beginning, tensions with the British-controlled cape were present in the Transvaal and rumors were that the British were planning to annex the Boer States into their evil empire.

Aspect: Out of her Element (In London)

Jen de Boer, in Whisp of Truth.

In late 1872 Jen began a trek North to travel to India, which she then thought was the hub of British efforts to control the world, after listening to a Dutch spice trader in a bar. The journey took Jen first to Maputo, in Portuguese East Africa, taking more than year. From here she boarded a tram steamer which sailed for Java, but made port at Ceylon. From here she made her way up towards Bengal, Fort William, determined to assassinate Queen Victoria. However when she arrived the great mass of people confused her greatly and she fell into an Opium Den. Once she discovered that Queen Victoria was not in India she lost heart and began to lose herself in the hazy smoke of the den. It was not for almost three years later, in late 1876, that Jen found herself stirred from the Den of Inquity by a half-caught conversation between to British merchant agents discussing the coronation of the Empress of India. Jen, in her half aware state staggered to the door, and to the nearest bar to confirm the story.

    Aspect: Ex-Opium Addict

    Shaka'l de Boer

But alas, in her half conscience state she ran afoul of a carriage. By fortune the carriage driver was a Dutchman, who took pity on the wretch and took her to a local doctor. From there she struggled to get clean, but the spectre of the drug lingers on. In any event the Dutchman, on hearing of her plans to kill the Queen of England disowned her, and said it was better that she had died on the streets of Kolkata. She could not understand how her fellow Dutch could not understand the evil of Britain, but she paid it little mind. She booked passage on a ship sailing for London, but when the ship put into port on the Island of Madagascar she heard that trouble was brewing back in Pretoria. Britain had formally annexed it! On leaving the port she hijacked the vessal and travelled by dead reckoning for several days, eventually running aground near Ulundi and was found by the Zulus there. Her narrow escape from torture was only affected by the help of a Charismatic Irishman, Benjamin O'Reily. Together they escaped the Zulu Impis and travelled across country, eventually reaching Port Elizabeth. On the journey they talked much, sharing a hatred of Britian, but Jen slowly came to understand that Ireland, although part of Britain, was not the same as it.

    Back in the Frontier

Her time in the Opium dens took her away from her beloved frontier and when she returned, she saw nature in a new light and spent the next few days upon her return on the rolling velds (grasslands) and the highvelds (highlands). It was during this time that she began to "speak" with the grasses and the herd animals on the velds. Although Opium withdrawal was a possible culprit, she felt that it was the result of a special connection with nature. She had shunned human relationships before, so it made sense that she bonded with something else. It was during this time that her connection proved useful: her conversations with nature informed her of Zulu troop movements that indicated an attack and she was able to travel back to the Boer lands to foil the Zulu ambush.

    Aspect: Special Relationship

    Rebellion

Of course, Britain continued to move forwards with their imperial ambitions. After being contacted by militia organisers, she met up with the Boer militias that had assembled to remove the British threat. Together, they harried the British with guirrella tactics and expert marksmenship. The British, unaccostumed to the new style of warfare, were beaten back time and time again. The Boers began sieging British fortresses and when the British sent relief forces, the Boers routed them at the Battle of Majuba Hill. Nature conspired to help Jen by hiding her behind tall grasses and allowed her to get close enough to the British positions on the hill to take out two British officers with her smokeless Mauser rifle before the start of the battl. After the British were crushed, Jen found the spot where the commanders fell and took their Webley Revolvers, which she added to her arsenal.

    Aspect: Veteran of Majuba

After several years of work in South Africa Jen found the work she was doing to be deeply confusing. One the one hand the British oppressed her people, on the other they fought the Zulus to protect the Boers without thought for themselves. All around her, her fellow Boers told her it was for the Gold and Diamonds, but Benjamin talked of Britain as 'The older brother you didn't want and didn't ask for, but, at the end of the day, when you look at what else is out there, you can't help but admire.'

With her confusion making it difficult to work Jen travelled to Britain, not to kill, but to understand her enemy.

    Aspect: The Quest for Understanding

  10. Name: Jen de Boer

Blurb: Born in the city of Pretoria, capital of the Transvaal Republic located in present-day South Africa around 1864, she grew up in a community of economically prosperous Dutch-settler farmers known as Boers. The idyllic Transvaal Republic was located in fertile farmland and incubated a fledgling democracy.

All of that changed when the evil British Empire began to close in with their imperialistic expansion and annexed the Boer republics in 1880, resulting in the first Boer war. The farmers formed their own military units to battle against the British using guerrilla warfare and among those farmers was 16 year old Jen. The lifestyle of farming on the edge of African wilderness had led them to develop skills well suited to fighting the ponderous British. Marksmenship, Stealth, Riding, among others. It was but a year later at the Battle of Majuba hill, where British forces were worn down by expert marksmanship and defeated, essentially ending the war. It was here that Jen took down two British officers.

    Weaponry:

Mauser Model 1871 (Single Shot, Eight Round Magazine) - Acquired during the arming of the Boers against British incursion

Webley Revolver x 2 (6 round cylinder) - Acquired as mementos from the two British officers at the battle of Majuba

    Aspects:

Veteran of Majuba (Member of the Boer insurgency, an expert at shooting, hiding/ambushing, riding, Speaks Dutch/Afrikaans and Fragmented English with accent, Hatred for the British)

Out of her element (Female in a Male-dominated society, Boer in a British-dominated world, lack of knowledge about British culture and customs)
