  1. Great for me to see those Greeks stamped down that hard. But there was still one small prickle.

DA [bleep] WAS JEROME BOATENG DOING ON THE FIELD?!?!?!?!?!?!?

This wasn't his strongest game, but he's usually very reliable...why exactly does it bother you?

Just what I wanted; See the Greeks get crushed. Good riddance. Too bad about the penalty though (Was it even a penalty in the first place?)

I was only able to see the game at a restaurant with friends so I didn't get to pay close attention, but it looked like a penalty. Maybe Boateng touching the ball was just unlucky, but from what I could see the penalty call was okay.

After interrogating my fellow combat developers, here is more detailed information on XP:

The XP reduction kicks in based on comparing your offensive stat to the enemy Defence level, and in fact does not use your overall combat level. Here is an example:

    I have 99 Attack, 99 Defence and 1 Magic.

I Mage an NPC with 50 Defence, and I have selected to Mage defensively, so gaining Magic and Defence XP.

Let's say this NPC awards 200 XP, therefore 50% (100 XP) is for Magic and 50% (100 XP) is for Defence.

My Defence skill is more than 30 levels above the NPC so this XP is reduced down to 10% (10 XP).

However, my Magic skill is less than 30 levels away from the NPC so I get 100% of my Magic XP (100 XP).

I am awarded 10 Defence XP and 100 Magic XP.

The reduction is only applied down, never up. So if I kill an NPC that is 50 levels higher than my offence and defence skill, I will be awarded 100% of the XP.

However, if my offence and defence skills are 30+ levels above the NPC I kill, I shall only be awarded 10% of the XP.

This is pretty important and I hope I'm reading it right. The system is looking at the skill you're leveling versus the primary skill the monster will counter it (either it's offensive or defensive stat). You don't want to train defense on a monster with its offensive stat too low and you don't train atk/mag/rng against an enemy with low defensive stat. However, this is beneficial to players with divergent range, mage and melee stats. Reason being, even if you're a high combat level thanks to 90 atk, you can still train on low level NPCs if you happen to have and use a low level range skill.

Also, if I'm reading this right, monsters will have weapons and armor of a level that fits their base stat. An NPC with 40 atk and 40 def will also be using something like rune armor and weapons. If that's the case, a monster's combat level and a player's combat level (that's fully equipped) will be comparable in power. That's unlike now where a level 138 NPC would be no competition to a fairly equipped level 80 player.

Now I'm wondering how XP will be handled in all this? I don't think it's going to be HP based anymore. I can see it where a monster will have a set XP and you get a portion of that XP proportional to how much you damage it.

What I'm thinking...this basically means that it's probably pretty bad to train defence during slayer, since the "good" slayer monsters have low defence. Either you sacrifice slayer speed to get more defence xp, or you'll have to train defence seperately.

  3. Good thing about this is that I'll be the max level possible with my cape if my stats stay the same!

This does kinda kill pures.... Geting any 99 combat basically means you need the rest at 99 to compete.

defence is separate, you either have 99 defence with no offensive skills and the summon/hp/prayer set, or 99 offensives with 1 defence and the summon/pray/hp set

it doesn't really change, as pures will still be 99 combat levels lower than their opponents who are balanced. If anything this helps pures in some ways.

But you'll fail without defence, and you'll fail without at least one high offensive skill....

  4. Guns at school? That is some serious issues you have with guns. I don't know a single person who has a gun, besides my grandpa who has an airgun that needs no license, since it can't kill a man. He uses it to keep birds and cats out of the garden.

    I don't think that was serious ;)

  5. Well there are those who argue that this kind of stuff is a part of football and shouldn't be limited.

Still, the goal was offside anyway. I don't see the big deal. Yeah, it was the wrong decision, but that wouldn't have happened anyway if only right decisions had been made.

edit: And yes, Ibrahimovic's goal was amazing to watch.

  6. From RSOF (can't log in myself) it sounds like The Crucible has same problem as Flash Powder Factory. Even though most people can't log in, the instanced server is already full >.<

Also from RSOF it seems like the 'flat fee' is 500k, and you pay extra on top of this based on your levels and gear...bit pricey for me =\

serious? 500K? [bleep] that. That's a disgusting money sink for PvP. I can see this turning into dead content easily.

And people think Jagex has changed. Arbitrary mini-games that are abandoned within a week are as Jagex as taking what isn't broken and breaking it.

Sheesh, at least give it some time before condemning it. I'm not saying it will be great, but people definitely don't know enough yet to be able to make a meaningful statement.

  7. They are just getting a marching band of Yelps minions ready who follow you around the game singing a hideous tune about how you can spin today for prizes that you cannot mute, even if you turn you speakers all the way down and will not go away until you use all your spins and if you try to ignore them more and more of them appear and produce enforced lag on everything other than clicking the sof, even disabling the log out button with a big picture of Yelps and making all chat you type turn into Yelps says spin today for prizes galore. Cause you know they gotta keep it subtle and not ram it down our throats with every update.

Don't forget the emails they start sending when you don't spin!

In related news: people who can log on are reporting that when they try to go to their citadel, it says "Your clan does not have a citadel"...uh oh....JAGEXXXXXXXXXXXX!!1!

That's just citadel servers being down too I'd wager.

  8. Disappointing. Jagex has not had one succesful game after Runescape. Funorb has been left dying, 8realms closed down and War of Legends isn't exactly that popular either. I'm surprised that Hasbro gave them the Job of the Transformers MMO tbh. They really have to land a hit with this one or they'll have big problems with attracting other franchise.

  9. While the guy from theoatmeal probably isn't exactly acting wisely, the lawsuit against him is ridiculous. Yeah, copyright claims are hard to defend over the internet, but being sued basically for being outraged about your comics being stolen....

  10. Yeah that's definitely not normal. Maybe you should try converting the files, I could imagine that vegas for some reason isn't able to work with the needed codec properly.

If you need a converting program, I personally use XMedia Recode and never had any issues with it, though I didn't try any other programs to compare.

  11. Today, I got the results of my Geography state exam. Just FYI, state exams are the highest ranking system in our country, they decide whether and to which universities you can get. Anyways, I took it in the end of 11th grade, whilst usually it is taken in 12th, final, grade. My result was 81/100. I am terribly disappointed, even though my school average is 71 (country's no. 4-5 school) and countrywise average is somewhere in low sixties.

Is there a specific reason why you took it earlier?

  12. Again, I think Croatia should have gone through and possibly won. A penalty call and then the goal against them to me looked offside.

The goal wasn't offside(though narrowly) but you're right about the penalty call. Still, that's what you have to expect at times, and while Croatia was a strong team, I think it's alright that Spain and Italy went through. Croatia had a tough group.

  13. I read The Hunger Games and Catching Fire over the past two days. Starting Mockingjay now.

By far the best trilogy I've read in ages, even with Catching Fire sort of duplicating much of The Hunger Games it is captivating and some how greater than the first and the twists, emotions and action seem so well balanced and intertwined you truly get caught up in it and find your heart racing through the fights and the emotions and often kicking yourself you missed the obvious plan (Thought I must admit I spotted the final twist of Catching Fire early on).

Yeah The Hunger Games is pretty great. I wasn't really crazy about the last one though..

[hide=Spoilers.. kind of]I wanted some sort of epic confrontation/battle.. but I felt like all the "battles" were won via propaganda and I thought that was pretty lame. I didn't like that they even called it "propaganda." They were literally just putting on an act for the television to gain followers. To me that was a lot less epic than going out there, giving unscripted speeches, and having actual intense battles. I definitely would have preferred that route.[/hide]

I finished Starcrossed. I was pretty disappointed. You can read my review here if you want. I also got a million new books! You can check them all out here. It took me a while to pick which one I wanted to read next but I settled on The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. It's supposed to be an epic vampire story :D

I liked the third one the most

    big spoilers

    [hide]

Up to a point, I quite liked the series and it was great to read, but it was nothing extraordinary either. Above average but nothing more. But what I loved was the time after Katniss's sister died. I just think the way Suzanne Collins captured her trauma was intense. Okay, I guess I'm a bit of a sucker for psychoses and the like, but I think that was really top-notch writing.

  14. So very disappointed about last night. Typical Greece getting through on 1-0 win with a 10man defence.

Tonight should be interesting though. I really hope Holland actually start playing as a team and show what they're capable of. I'm very confident that Germany will defeat Denmark, so Holland "only" needs a +2 goal win over Portugal. That doesn't sound too bad.

I would definitely hope Holland gets their act together. But I don't think they'll manage a two goals lead over Portugal, who unfortunately are most likely too strong for that. It's not impossible, but...

  15. I think there was a music cape in the database, but that may have been planned for getting all the songs or something.

Regardless music would be an awesome skill. You could have various instruments that you could use to say, rest anywhere to your own music, or charm monsters, similar to the Ring of Charos. Major locations across RS could have symphony halls where you could play once a week (like the circus) to npc's for xp and gp. It could be good for hunter for luring animals. It could also be used to call monsters to fight for you (e.g. In wild you could have a chaos dwarf attack another player).

Charming monsters and luring hunter creatures can better be done with their own skills, namely slayer and hunter. Sure you *could* implement it, but it seems rather forced to me. Weekly xp also seems more of a thing you add to an already strong skill, not a major benefit of one.

It works well enough that there's an entire bard class dedicated to it.

Rework it into something like "Charisma", you could have it make magic more effective and also and use it to buff/debuff allies/enemies in multicombat. Outside of combat, have it so that you could perform for money, with better results at higher levels.

Was thinking of something like a Renown skill, since pretty much everything we do has us gaining fame. Things like quests, miniquests, completing slayer tasks and recovering "artifacts" from monsters or skilling which could work like strange rocks would gain xp, and the skill itself could be used to like you said, buff and debuff other. Other benefits could be ability to wear or receive legendary items and some kind of bonus to the new abilities (fame would be a good measurement of real world experience).

Its going to be a gather skill paired with a artisan skill.

Not guaranteed. Just an idea of them.
