  1. There's no promise that you'd stick around after coming back from a hiatus.

A person who came back from a hiatus to experience a very new, very large update has a higher chance of resubscribing than one that is already subscribed for 12 consecutive months and was probably going to keep it that way.

And in the context of a beta, that shouldn't matter either way.

  2. That's a neat way to thank consecutive members. They definitely deserve some praise on this. Yes, consecutive members will tend to keep paying, but you still don't want to piss them off. This was a good move, I think.

Still think it should be members who have X months on record and an active membership on the 1st.

Wouldn't do much good to them if you were a member for X months more than 3 years ago and only just came back from a hiatus.

    And why is that?

  4. I had the same experience a couple of weeks ago. Hacked pmod muted everybody in my friendschat. Don't worry, it will not leave black marks on your account if it is an unfair mute.

  5. Meh. Not a huge fan of transitioning BtS to video... I almost always prefer things to be in text rather than video. It's easier and faster for me to absorb the information, and I don't have to go find my headphones to avoid weird looks in the computer labs.

They haven't said they are transitioning it to my knowledge, it appears more like extra info mixed with teasers about specific content as and when appropriate than a replacement of the traditional text BTS of this is what is planned for the month.

    This. I quite liked it.

  6. Well you can like it or not, but afk is the way this game is headed. People don't like grinding, so Jagex is removing that from the game. Combat might be an exception, because (if done right) it can be exciting. But there is nothing exciting about firemaking. Bonfires have made it less dull. For me, bonfires and runespan have added two more 200m skills I may be getting without paying attention to the game. I like it.

Why play a game when you're not going to pay attention to it?

Do you enter a game of COD and sit there holding your finger on the trigger while watching TV hoping someone would run into your line of fire? No. You actively participate in the game. Same concept should apply here.

People are no longer "playing" the game, they are simply rewarded with exp for logging on the Runescape.

Unlike firemaking, playing COD is what some people might classify as "fun", and people can play it whenever they feel like it without paying a cent. Runescape has a subscription fee, and for that people force themselves to make their money's worth in gametime, even when it means they are merely performing boring, repetitive tasks.

  7. I find it funny how a new update brainwashes people into thinking that RuneCrafting is more fun now.

Give it time, and people will complain about how tedious rc is.

Unspan See what I did there? after school, dunno what with.

It's not more fun, it's just less boring because you don't actively have to do anything to gain exp.

  8. I really don't see the argument of boohoo it gives better rc xp than ZMI cause pre-ZMI is only a small margin better than the best altar choice; at ZMI level its only slightly better than ZMI. Sure ABOVE zmi it gets much better still but that's not a flaw thats a good thing, skills aren't meant to plateau they are meant to have a nice smooth curve all the way up to 99.

And sure we can back and forth on the is it a mini-game issue but guess what! Jagex has decided it's not (no mini-game icon, not in mini-game section of wiki and devblog specifically says it is not), so it doesn't have to conform to those standards. And tbh the no over-world ties is kinda a flawed logic with this once since the actual part of rcing that gives the xp (the making of the runes) has almost no ties to the over-world the only exceptions being the relatively recent ZMI and Astral.

I still don't get why people have so many issues with "minigames".

  9. Runecrafting is definitely the new cooking. I'm seeing little noobies with terrible stats having 85+ RC as their highest skill. I'm actually kinda hoping for a nerf now.

Hopefully the nerf can wait 2 days, since I've just hit 98.

  10. The update is planned for thursday. If it was just bonfires, I think it shouldn't take that long. One can hope.

Thursday? When I looked at the thread on RSOF it said Wednesday. Either way, it was a Bank Holiday here in the UK yesterday so that's probably why it's later in the week.

    And now it's thursday.

  11. On the other hand, I know of no case where someone who actually knew what the hell they were buying hardware wise, custom-built or not, actually has performance issues on modern hardware.

So, if you do not know of any case, it does not exist? That's a cool assumption bro. The truth is runescape isn't performing as efficiently as it should, whether that is on a low end machine or on a multi million dollar supercomputer is irrelevant.
