  1. Alright, when I first posted in this thread I obviously had no idea what the hell I was talking about, I am willing to admit that, so you guys can stop quoting my old posts in this thread now.

So I'm killing red dragons now, and I love killing them. And most people are wearing the exactly the same things. Dragon med, a gray platebody, dragon platelegs, tzhaar cape and abyssal whip. I am going to assume those are bots.

Thankfully I know how to be on the right spot and I can easily just kill the red dragons.

Why are you killing red dragons?

  2.

I'm calling this. If I'm wrong then you can all beat me with a rubber chicken in central Varrock.

    How would this work?

    Same way google does it.

First step is to synchronise the app and your account.

Then both the jagex servers and your app generate identical key codes valid for about 30 seconds at a time and keep doing this indefinitely.

When you log-in it'll ask for the key code.

Short of being an insanely lucky sob to guess the right code out of the possible millions or hacking jagex servers, grabbing the data and decoding it all before the code expires there is no way to get in unless you have the phone app to show you the current code.

    Ah I see, I could've used that a few months ago >.>.

  3. What I meant is I wouldn't expect too many cellphones in the swamps of Louisiana, but in New York city I would expect a lot of them.

You can't make the assumption that all US players come from metropolitan areas though.

Well I guess you could but it would be horribly wrong.

The US players with the ability to play Runescape typically don't come from the third world parts of the US.

Again you're making assumptions - and borderline offensive ones at that - considering you could play RS reliably even with a satellite internet connection which is available in rural areas of the country where DSL isn't an option. I actually live a few miles away from an area like that in Pennsylvania.

    Not assumptions, presumptions.

  5. Not having facebook or a mobile is not the sign of a hermit. It's still only around 60% of people in the US who have cellphones. I'd bet cash on the spot that the cellphone ownership for people between the age of 12 through 18 is less than that. That's a big chunk of your customer base to leave out. It's just an overall smart move to allow another option, especially in the US where texting and data plans are ridiculously high compared to other countries.

I was talking about first world countries mainly, in the first world parts of America most of them have cellphones.

  6. It'd be interesting if it were SMS and E-Mail only. Also, very, very unforgiving to anyone that didn't have a mobile.

I thought not having facebook was bad, what kind of recluse doesn't have a cellphone in 2012? It wouldn't be unfair for Jagex to make the assumption that most do.

  7. What everyone wants is a less procrastinated fix. A fix that doesn't just drop em off the game for a day or a week but forever. It's not that Jagex isn't trying, they just aren't going above and beyond what someone would expect them to be doing bare-min. RS is the only game that I know of with this amount of RWT and bots, and Jagex needs to stop acting high-class if they aren't providing high-class.

Great anti-bot systems take time, but waiting til they outnumber subscribers is just dumb. Happened every time so far that I can think of.

Well try to see it from the perspective of Jagex.

What makes more money, making the game a better experience for people or adding update afterupdateto SOF and SGS?

  8. The only graphical update I don't like is what they did to Dragonfire shield. It looks awful now.

It doesn't look too bad, it's just that the old dfs was so badass.

And they completely molested rune armour.

  9. Really? Did SoF skip your memory, or does 800k/hr agility not count as an ingame advantage in your book?

How many people actually take that advantage?

I'm guessing not many. But at least one or two will, and more will in the future. It comes down to the idea of the integrity of your achievements; if someone else can just buy it, what's the point.

How does SOF give you 800k xp/hour in agility specifically?

  10. Random events take from one to two minutes maximum to complete. I played when random events were more punishing and hated browsing about the internet in another tab only to find my fishing rod gone because of a whirlpool or my pick damaged because of a smoking rock. I for one am glad that new players don't have to deal with those problems.

Haha I actually forgot how annoying random events once were. And they were like every 40 minutes too. I guess the gravedigger and maze aren't so bad in comparison.

  11. nice to see some reassurance that they do not intend to sell true in-game advantages etc

They also said real life wealth would never affect your gameplay. Look how that turned out.

Oh, come on. Why do you got to be so negative :/ ?

Certainly there have been broken promises. But at least give them a chance. I don't think they're so incredibly stupid they will actually start selling in-game advantages. Even though they're certainly not far from it now, this post have at least restored some of my faith in Jagex. Let's all hope they keep these promises now. Such a long time player like you, Den, should hope for this. Just as much as myself that too have been around for some years now.

I'm a tad confused by this bit. "I don't think they're so incredibly stupid they will actually start selling in-game advantages."

Really? Did SoF skip your memory, or does 800k/hr agility not count as an ingame advantage in your book?

    Wa?

  12. Same boat as I'm in. I want all the unlockables, but I'm not folding over hundreds of dollars for it. If microtransactions are added, I feel there should at least be a way for people to get the stuff without buying it

I think they should take a page out of LoL's book and make the solomon/sof stuff available to everyone but through a slower way or after a certain amount of time has passed. Eg. you get points for doing stuff like gaining xp, playing minigames, killing bosses, or whatever. And then you can spend them on what you want. Or after a year has passed, the items become free and everyone can get them. Or after a year has passed they are added to loyalty shop, etc. The current system is way too extreme considering we're already paying monthly. I mean, really.

But doesn't the stuff in LoL give actual gameplay advantages? That would probably be why they're also available to non-payers, albeit harder to obtain. Runescape's microtransactions are only cosmetic, and don't affect gameplay, therefore there's no real reason to allow everyone to get them for free.

Good point, no reason to only restrict them to payers though. We all pay for membership we should be entitled to everything.

  13. This is old; Jiblix has been demodded for over a year now. Also they did eventually get rid of the bots in the video, but they surged back (hence another wipe in the near future).

another wipe wont help, they need to find a long term fix, if you dont remember when the bot nuke was made, there were no bots! but then a 2 weeks later they were back..

    You want the impossible.

    The difficult, not the impossible.

  14. I think the wilderness being non-dangerous for close to 3 years has really shown its effects. In the past you'd worry about 4 iteming when you had a co-ordinate clue to do ... and then later somewhere along the way people expected to be able to get their wildy pengs without any fuss at all.

I remember the day when Bounty Hunter was released. Some guy had planted over 50 flowers outside the BH crater. That would have been unthinkable by any stretch before then, whereas now ...

I agree, revs were a complete joke, the best of them would splash constantly on my 45 defence with some D-hide slapped on. I can imagine it would be annoying to have those wildy-based activities returned to the difficulty Jagex originally envisioned for them.
