  1. You wont see a lot of people wearing hunting capes because what good is 99 hunter? Hunter isn't a high money making skill you could get more money with 99 runecrafting or 99 fishing. I want to get 99 hunter for the potential it has... I figure they will add some new updates for hunter soon and people will wish they had trained it up sooner.
  2. I tried Orange Salamanders at lvl 54 they are much faster than Chinchompas and a little faster than Falconing. I would suggest falconing because in the desert you have to go search for water and that means you aren't getting exp.
  3. Ok here is my two cents. First a few things you should change/update Get 1 Butterfly net and 15-20 butterfly jars. Get Bird Snares (they aren't called bird traps people unfamiliar with the hunter skill will get confused) It would be helpful to mention that the "nets" they suggest they find are small fishing nets not some kind of hunter net. I used this guide to get my hunter lvl (55) and I will keep going but thought I would comment first I like the Crimson swifts till lvl 9 I suggest don't waste your time with Polar Kebbits. They maybe slightly faster in the beginning because when you track you are guaranteed to capture something at the end and the Crimson Swifts will knock your bird snares down a lot but the Crimson Swifts are faster in the long run and you will have bird traps for the birds you catch later. After reaching lvl 9 head south of the Piscatoris fishing colony and catch Copper Longtails. Bring 4-5 bird snares but also have a butterfly net equipped and bring 15-20 butterfly jars. I had 17 and that worked pretty well and still had space for a few more. Once you hit lvl 15 set your trap then go catch butterflies. After a while you should reach a rhythm. The part that will slow you down is when you check your bird snares. What I would do is check the share. Lay a new snare. Drop the raw bird and bury the bones then chase more butterflies. Getting a rhythm saves time and once you hit 20 hunter this will be more important because you can lay two traps. I kept catching butterflies and longtails till lvl 32 then went to catch swamp lizards. Bring 5 nets and 5 ropes to catch them. For low combat hunters be wary of the swamp because ghasts can still attack you. They didn't cause me problems but in certain lizard locations you will get attacked by ghasts it maybe useful to bring a few peices of disposable food because the ghast will destroy the food before attacking you. Swamp Lizards were great exp especially when you reach 40 and you can lay 3 traps. It is good to get in a rhythm with the swamp lizards too. I would check the net, reset the trap then release the lizards. Using falcons were also fast exp. Bring only your 500gp and a Larupia set dont bring a weapon or gloves it just takes space. With an open inventory you should have space for 14 spotted kebbits. Thats 1456 exp per load and you get those loads pretty fast. A strategy for catching these is to not send your falcon from far away. Run towards the kebbit then send your falcon from 3-5 spaces away. Try to wait till they stop hopping because if they turn your falcon will miss. The slowest part about this is dropping all the leftovers. I buried bones and dropped the hides. That is basically what I did to get to lvl 53. So far this guide has been excellent at lvl 53 it says to go to chinchompas and I did but the exp on those is slower than the falconing. I smoke the traps but it doesn't really help. I actually got better exp by setting two chinchompa traps and then setting a deadfall trap for [puncture]ly kebbits. I don't use bait that might be the problem or maybe it gets faster a couple levels above 53. I suggest you stay at falcons till 55 or 56. I am heading back to falcons because of slow chinchompa exp. The orange salamanders look very appealing because of the 224 exp which is better than 204 for [puncture]ly kebbits or 198.5 for chinchompas. But orange salamanders are in the desert and having to carry water will add extra time to trying to catch those lizards and people might just forget and die to drink water and die. If two deadfall rocks were close together [puncture]ly kebbits would be the best exp but from what I can see falconing is the best till 57 hunter at least maybe even all they way to 59. A full load of spotted kebbits is 1456 exp and you can get that in under 3 minutes. At lvl 53 hunter you will not catch 7 chinchompas in 3 minutes. Its sad but true. I think the best exp would be orange salamanders but since you have to refill waterskins I think falconing would still be the easiest way to powerlvl hunting between 53 and 59. I am going to try orange salamanders and update this post with my findings. SO the summary 1-9 Crimson Swifts 9-15 Copper Longtails 15-20 Copper Longtails (1 snare) and Ruby Harvests (15+ jars) 20-30 Copper Longtails (2 snares) and Ruby Harvest (15+ jars) 30-40 Swamp Lizards (2 net traps) 40-45 Swamp Lizards (3 net traps) 45-53 Falconing 53-60 Falconing or Orange Salamanders - still checking this out. It might pay to switch to chinchompas some time between 53 and 60. Also if you seek to make money do Chinchompas 53-60 though its slower exp because they don't fall for your traps a lot.
  4. I actually did find it by searching powermining iron which isnt exactly what I wanted because when people powermine they drop the ore while I wanted to bank them but I found a post that dicsussed the best f2p and p2p locations for mining and banking iron. I actually didn't search the whole forum I search the general help and advice and the player guides forums for iron and got nothing. And if there were too many results it might be useful to indicate "To many results were returned please narrow your search criteria" instead of no results were found. Those are two very different situations. Also I don't think what I said was that difficult on RSC forums I searched iron and got the exact results I was looking for. I know these are not RSC forums but if you want to be a competitive alternative there should be a search feature that at least works as well. And yes that was a typo and thanks for the advice.
  5. I tried searching mining and iron and got zero results... how is that possible? I tried searching some vulgar terms and got plenty of results. I was trying to figure out what players thought the best mining spots for iron were... a question I am sure has been asked before and I didn't want to have to search through the completely organized General Help % Advice or Player-Made Guide forums. So I guess I would like the search feature to be improved or some sort of organization to be added to the question and guide forums. (For example adding authors to select which skill they believe their guide/question relates to and allowing browsers to filter the questions/guides by whichever skill they choose)
  6. First off Im not some newb who started in rs2 I have been playing runescape since the days when you can attack anywhere back when you chose to be pk or non pk. I am a f2per not a member and I think members makes the game much easier (but you pay for it isnt that right) Anyway big deal you have 81 strength that doesnt mean you deserve any more kills than a player with lvl 1 strength. Kills are EARNED if you don't get the kill you didn't earn it. If they escaped with 1 hp health tough luck find someone else to kill. You say the wilderness has become a cakewalk I say pking has become harder. Back in rsc all you need was to make a strength pure and go out in full rune with a r2h and whack the crap out of someone that isnt skill no thought was required. Any newb who didn't even know how to play could go and kill people with a character like that. Pking has become harder so deal with it. And personally I would prefer the old days when you could pk anywhere, that does make it a lot more fun and alot easier to get kills but rs isnt about being easy.. the fact that you get all your stats up to high levels doesnt mean you deserve kills. I like pking.. thats the only fun thing to do on f2p but I wouldn't enjoy it half as much if it was easy. And yes I do get pissed when I see people use prot prayers it is a pathetic thing to do especially in one on one but I deal with it... maybe thats just me. Well RSC was crap because all someone needed to do is make a str pure like I said before it was garbage because pking was way to easy. Yes the game is easier but you sound like a hypocrite saying that because you want to make it easier for people to be killed in the wilderness. Do you think teleporting should be taken out of the wilderness because it makes it easy for people to survive? In essence prayer isn't any different then teleporting because if you try and run from lvl 30 or lvl 40 wilderness even with protect prayers on you wont survive... at least not to a good pker. You would only get away from mid to low 20s and you can teleport from 20 anyway... So take away protect prayers from single and all these noobs who want everything easy and to do now work would simply bring teleport runes... 25 mage is MUCH easier to get than 43 prayer everyone would just teleport out of the wilderness and you would still be left with no kills... Pking is tougher for a reason... because if it was easy those same noobs who use protect prayers would be getting tons of kills. I don't like it either but just deal with it.
  7. There were a few errors I saw that need to be corrected. First off like the other guy said protect prayers arent a 50% decrease in damage. I also have had 14s 15s and 16s hit on me with prot melee on and Im pretty sure that person wouldnt have hit 28s, 30s or 32s because Im a f2per. Secondly you don't take into account the randomness of runescape combat. In the first example on f2p it would still be rare for them to hit 20s. But your right the defensive player probably would have the advantage also due to the fact that the offensive player would be draining prayer at faster rates. In the second example the defensive player wouldnt hit twice as hard... on f2p 92 att versus 80 attack would make a huge difference. The 80 att would hit many 0s but the 92 attack would break the 80 much more often. So even if the defensive player could hit a 20 the amount of times the offensive player hits would be greater. And since the prot prayers don't half the damage just reduce it a percent then it would be about even if not leaning to he favor of the offensive player. And I think you made a mistake on the offensive player in example 2 it says they have 92 defense... if that was true the defensive player wouldnt have a hope of breaking that with 80 attack. It would be no contest the offensive player would win. Anyway on to the solutions.. Solution 1 it seems rather useless as a prayer simply cancelling out another prayer and it shouldnt be called double damage because that is misleading it should simply be called anti protect prayer or neutralize or some other appropriate term.. I don't think of this is a good solution because the drain rate would most likely be higher and making a prayer that is only good when someone is using protect seems useless when they turn it off you have to turns yours off cause its useless in essence its way to much trouble to go through just to neutralize prayer. With the new mage spells you can blind, and freeze then blast them to lumbridge. Solution 2 would be better thought out if it made protection prayers useless against other players. This would make more sense than solution 1 or solution 2 and probably more sense to jagex because back in runescape classic that is how the protect prayer works. It only works against monsters not other players so you keep the training advantage and dont get an unfair advantage in single pking. Removing protect prayers from single wouldnt exactly be fair.. like for people who mine rune rocks in the wilderness they should be able to mine their rocks and use protect prayers if they have to run south through single. Also for people who want to train at ice giants or run up and do treasure trails it would be unfair to remove the protect prayers they trained hard to get unless they were replaced with something better because many players went and trained prayer up to 43 just to use prot. Anyway another solution might be to put level restrictions like teleporting. Say no protect prayer above lvl 20 wilderness which is where most teams pk and people cant teleport so you can kill them before they get down to 20. On the other hand you could make no protect prayer below level 20 because most people single pk below lvl 20 and it would stop people from prot prayering and running. It is all up to point of view. All in all I think people whining about prayer is stupid. Honestly people trained their prayer up to that level why shouldnt they use it. Really they should make a real class system and include a monk class that uses prayer and has to wear monk robes to do so like maging in mage robes. But really if someone uses protect prayers and survives they are smart. Now prot pray in a deathmatch is different but out in the wild there are no rule since when did honour matter since pkers pile jumped or attacked other players after they were weakened by monsters? Since when did jagex have an obligation to make pking easier? Quit your freaking whining if someone uses pray oh well find someone else to kill or quit runescape.
  8. I wouldn't say this is the worst idea ever just a little misguided. Ok first and foremost F2Pers are not useless. If jagex screws F2Pers they screw themselves because they get a substantial amount of income from the banner adds. There sponsors pay Jagex knowing Jagex can guarantee hundreds of thousands of people viewing their banner adds maybe they dont click them but they view them nonetheless (there are 500,000 ppl on high scores more than half are F2Pers so Im not exaggerating when I say hundreds of thousands of views) So Jagex DOES care about F2P Reducing ppls skills to lvl 40 would be unfair and Jagex would never do that. As other ppl said what happens when someones members runs out? All their skills go down to 40? They forget to pay for a week or dont get their paycheck comes late in the mail and they get punished because of that. If they had a big F2P war to go to on the weekend and their paycheck didnt come in they would have to go to the war with noobish lvl 40 skills.. they wouldnt even be able to fish swordies for the war. A level cap DRASTICALLY increase whine/complain/hate mail that Jagex gets. Also with a F2P lvl 40 skill cap ppl wouldnt say screw training. A lot more people would just use macros to get lvl 40 and go pk. Thats what happened in RSC and when ppl stop caring about their characters getting banned there is nothing stoppin them from creating a new char each week and using macros to raise them up even it they kept getting banned. Basically a members cap isn't a good idea... not right now with as far as the game has developed. I have played a game with a members cap. They stop you at lvl 10.. I got lvl 10 in 2 hours I kept walkin around and trying to do stuff but ended up quiting because at lvl 10 half to stuff wasnt accesible. At lvl 40 they wouldnt even be able to use anything good on members if they were to switch ie dragon, any trees better than oak. I could understand members wanting to limit F2Pers if it cost more but like you said it is ONLY 5$ (US) a month and for that much it really shouldnt be much difference many mmorpg make up pay 10$ a month or more. Also like ppl said some peoples parents dont let them play. Im one of those ppl my dad doesnt like me playin rs. We have 1 computer in the house and he has the deranged idea that online games cause viruses. I sneak on rs whenever I can and try to train my way up. There is no way I could pay with a credit card, I would have to mail the money meaning I would also have to pay the shipping cost to england and it would be wise to put shipping protection and reciept care which means they insure your package and send you a notice telling you when your package is recieved. That is gonna be another 5$ on top of the 5 payin to jagex... even with just basic shipping it is gonna run about 2$ extra JUST To mail it. But I really do enjoy F2P most of my friends are on there. Im a meleer and dont feel like getting owned by rangers on P2P and I really dont have the time to fully take advantage of membership. On the other hand if Jagex lowered all F2Pers to lvl 40 skills I wouldnt be to happy. Im 91 combat 72 att 76 str 74 def 74 hits... if they lowered me to 40 well lets just say I wouldnt be a happy camper. I think RS as it is, is pretty good. The way to get F2Pers to become members is to give members more cool skills that F2Pers will want (like taming) anyway thats my 2 cents.
