  1. If you are going *purely* for performance, then you can't go past the SCSI. However, if you don't mind taking a small performance hit, an extra 180GB of disk space *would* be rather handy ;) One thing to note, though... 18GB isn't very big. A few games on that drive, and it'll be as full as you want it to be... (you'd obviously run this disk as your OS drive). So if you were only intending on having a few high performance games on your PC at any one time, i'd go the SCSI option. However, if you were looking at more than that, then having the fast drive isn't going to help much for your games, as your OS will load fast... but the games will still be on the slower 7200 drives... As for putting in a RAID controller - you'll find that a large # of the performance boards nowadays have RAID built-in on-board - mine has capability of running 10 IDE devices, with the standard 2 IDE ports, plus 2 IDE-RAID ports, plus 2 SATA ports with RAID capability... all on-board. So yeah - you have a few options, but it ultimately comes down to what, exactly, it is you want to get back from your PC...
  2. Good choice :) AVG appears to be a relatively decent free AV proggie. But if you can afford it, i'd look at buying something like McAfee... some things are worth spending money on... and PC protection is one of them :)
  3. Try using the Jagex client, rather than SwiftSwitch, and you'll quite likely find your problem disappearing...
  4. Hmmm... where to start... ? Ok, firstly... shadowman - I strongly suggest that next time you want help on a problem, you be considerably more polite and respectful towards those putting in time to help you. They don't HAVE to do this, you know... Also, when you DO ask for help, and are given information to read... go read it. You have the info you need to fix your problem... so get to it. Elite - part #6 there was a lot closer to being something you wouldn't have wanted it to be than you may realise... don't let me see another post like that from you again...
  5. You got it :) However, for what it's worth, we ARE looking into the ad situation, and have been for some time, with a number of alternatives being considered. In the mean-time, I just block the ads that annoy me, and block the companies that try to trojan me... works quite nicely... As for those of you that block ALL ads... might wanna consider just how much it takes to run 2 servers - with the forum server getting an average of around 13k unique visits per day. And I can tell you - the website server receives a lot more than that... Anyways - as I said, we *are* looking into alternatives... not sure how much difference it will mae, considering the number of people out there that just indiscriminately block ALL ads, regardless... but as we keep saying, we do what we can to keep you guys safe... we tried blocking individual ads - but not enough people were reporting them correctly... no details = no blocking by us. Anyways... guess you'll just have to wait and see what we come up with...
  6. For this one, I suggest you seek out one of the many forums dedicated to this particular Topic... for two main reasons... 1) That's what they do - so they're bound to be able to give you better advice/info 2) I'm a little wary of how close this comes to breaching Copyright laws ;)
  7. RS at work = RS at school, in my books... neither of which are desirable...
  8. 1) Get the latest version of Ad-aware 2) Boot into Safe Mode With Networking 3) Scan with Ad-aware and fix any probs (not the minor ones) it finds 4) Go to housecall.antivirus.com and do a scan with that - be sure to select the "Fix errors" option 5) Reboot and try WindowsUpdate again. If WindowsUpdate STILL doesn't work, tell us exactly what happens, with error messages, etc
  9. Is it an LCD montir or CRT ?? It's possible, if it's an LCD, that it's gone into either power save mode, or digital/analogue mode - whichever your video card ISN"T putting out... We get that occasionally on the LCDs at work :)
  10. You'll find that having to rebuild your PC due to exploits utilising the vulnerabilities in SP1 will slow you own considerably more ;)
  11. No, I was not saying you were hiding anything, I was saying you weren't showing us all the information we needed to help you :P May want to read my post again kiddo... as I said, firstly it is NOT allowed on these forums... I don't care whether it's legal or not elsewhere (and that seems to change from day to day)... it's NOT allowed here :) Now for your log... First things first - you're only on Service Pack 1 of XP... time to upgrade to SP2. C:\Program Files\SwiftSwitch\SwiftSwitch[Caution: ExecutableFile] O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {327C2873-E90D-4c37-AA9D-10AC9BABA46C} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: My &Search Bar - {0494D0D9-F8E0-41ad-92A3-14154ECE70AC} - C:\Program Files\MyWay\myBar\1.bin\MYBAR.DLL (file missing) Other than those ones you should fix, the only thing I could see which is possibly dodgy is this one : O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NCLaunch] C:\WINDOWS\NCLAUNCH[Caution: ExecutableFile] Oh, and for the record... next time you want us to look at a long, it would help to know WHY... You labelled this as urgent (which I tend to ignore, btw), but I see no reason it should have been. Next time an explanation as to WHY you expect us to spend time looking through your HJT log would be appreciated :)
  12. 1. Next time use a Subject line that MEANS something 2. Next time read the FAQ 3. Next time, read ALL of the responses you get on your thread... You've had a number of questions and suggestions here, and you've done nothing, and only replied to the very last question... If you want help, I suggest you start taking a little bit more of a vested interest in the responses you get...
  13. Well, for one, rather than running it directly from the ZIP file, you should extract it somewhere like C:\Temp and run it from there. That is SwiftSwitch, which is not allowed on these forums, and is in a rather grey area at the moment with Jagex as to whether or not it is also legal to use for Runescape. So, aside from telling you not to post anything on here regarding that (or any other 3rd party clients) on these forums... I will also recommend you not to use it ;) Now... in the mean-time... get the latest version of HiJackThis, and post the ENTIRE log for us - including the part at the top that you cut off.
  14. Certainly sounds like the kind of thing responsible for keylogging. For safetys' sake, i'd boot into safe mode, and do a couple more scans : Norton Ad-Aware SE (upgrade if you only have 6) HiJackThis Post a log from HiJackThis here pls so we can double-check for you :)
  15. Ok... firstly, as has already been said... do NOT accept files frmo anyone you don't know !! Especially for a bank pic - tell them to host it... Anyways... What operating system are you on ? Windows XP ? Windows 98 ?? What virus scanner program do you have ?? Answer these, and we'll be able to help you with a bit more detail :)
  16. What kind of problem ??? (Sorry, don't have time to check your HJT log jsut at the moment)
  17. It's always possible you're posting from your old PC ;) Anyways... you've tried using modem > PC directly. When you tried that, did you also have your firewalls disabled ?? There's definately something blocking the RS pages from your PC... and it's software of some description. Thinking of it, have you checked you IE security settings ?? I've seen something like this previously where the RS websites had been added as disallowed sites by a brother... Personally, i'd be doing some scans, as has already been suggested... especially seeing as how you mentioned "clients", referring to non-Jagex clients... who knows what was in them ?? Safe Mode with Networking http://housecall.antivirus.com Ad-Aware SE HJT Post HJT log.
  18. Reboot into "Safe Mode with Networking". Scan using http://housecall.antivirus.com Scan with Ad-Aware SE Scan with HiJackThis reboot into "normal" mode. Post a HJT log here.
  19. Ok - I have to ask... do you have a DVD writer ????? It's quite possible the drive you have is a CD-writer, but only READS DVDs ?? Just a thought :) Now... do you have 30GB of data... or is there 30GB used on your hard drive, including Windows and your program files ?? Just asking, as those will make quite a difference, in regards to how much you actually need to back up. As for automatically backing up to DVD - I think you could be out of luck there, whilst using free software. However - what CD burning software do you have that came with your CD writer ?? It's possible that will do it - I know things like Nero have an option for backing up your hard disk...
  20. As Merc has already said - you are using a 3rd-party client. Aside from the fact that posting it on these forums can get you banned from here, we won't support you, and neither will Jagex. Try using a legit client...
  21. I rest my case... Oh... and scared ? No, not at all. Fed up ? Probably. Personally, more than anything, I feel sorry for you and people like you, Alex... tttia - please refrain from feeding the animals...
  22. We can hardly keep you from running your own forum, can we now, tttia ?? ;) And Princessa - sorry, but we have a policy of not discussing bans with anyone but the person involved... however, you could read tttia's post which could well have a fair amount of truth in it ;)
  23. Got it in one, tttia... unfortunately, it's become necessary, due to a certain few, for us to take measures we would have preferred not to - and, as always, innocents get caught up in the web of those that are not-so-innocent :( We don't like having to do it... but unfortunately it was necessary :( FF - same as we treat other boards same as ours, and users are punished etc. for spamming up other boards... we have quite a good relationship in that respect with a number of forums. Unfortunately, as per tttia's comment above, and my response to it... the few are ruining it for the majority. Paranoia it may be - but it is justified paranoia - as per Alex's guesstimate on the number of times he has been banned from these forums clearly shows. Certain ex-members of the forums are in no way, shape or form welcome EVER back on these forums, and it has come close a number of times to us taking the drastic step of banning an entire clan from our forums in order to give those ex-member(s) of the forums no reason to come back - it was getting that bad. If you can convince twits like those that spoil it for the rest of the community that does respect and abide by the rules to stay away, then we'll be more than happy to be more forthcoming with events like this. Until that time, however, it won't be happening... and for that, I am truly sorry...
  24. Yes... you are. And if you continue to return, things that you hold dear on these boards will start to suffer, so you will have no reason to return. You are not welcome here, and never will be. Go find another forum.
