  1. Hello Teeg, Why, oh why do people take quotes from the internet (in this case from the American Renaissance News) and pass it off as their own? *On Topic* - I originally read Truthscape some time ago, and, although Qeltar makes some good points, I do believe he goes OTT on a number of issues. firstly, I'm very surprised that a reader of such a highly reader-selective medium as AR definitely is would proceed to attack somebody in such an inadequate manner. Purposefully denying the content of the message, denouncing the text just by pointing out the use of a quote is a practice of the empty handed. Secondly, to answer your question, I keep a very extensive list of quotes gathered over many years from news, books, conferences et cetera which I find note worthy. If it helps me to deliver the message intended across to the reader, I do not have any regrets incomporating any strong and fitting quotes from my notes into the texts. Lastly, while dealing with the bellow-average community of Runescape game players on these boards, I won't regret the use of any copy/paste material that seems to be fitting my views on the subjects discussed. The message will be delivered and a lot of seconds saved in the process; leaving me overjoyed for the time saved while masochistically dealing with the local trash. Cheers edit: on topic: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=634393&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20 Also. I'm not going to make a new, off topic reply posts. If you need to explain what was ment by this short article written in simple English language, use the private messaging system. And to the few who seem not understand the big words: To borrow other people's ideas, research, or discovery IS plagiarizing. It is way different from borrowing other people's well-laid formulation of general, widely known content, just to make message of MY ideas more clear. It is widely used practice in papers, politics, television news, or public speeches worldwide. It does not require quoting.
  2. There is no point debating such topics here. The vast majority of Humans are unable to think in scientific terms. Instead they are trained to think only in emotional terms. This applies to scientists as well as laymen, unfortunately, and that is why sensitive topics are always colored by propaganda. That is why the burden of proof always falls on those who question propaganda. That is why such propaganda will be defended with the fanaticism of religious dogma. (edit: see that bigm person above - personal attack against the author as the only basis to defend his truth) Friedrich Nietzsche once said, ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åfaith means not wanting to know what is true,ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
  3. It is not really a daily occurence to see an author to misunedrstand his own message. :P No, it is not just for fun, what we can do with 20k. It is all about what we can do with the four hours of our free time. That is the important part. And to that question, there is only one right answer: ditch the 20k in your bank and go play the game. Get it? PLAY! GAME! I see absolutely no rewarding experience in wasting good four hours of my precious time spent in game merchanting. If you need one million, go train your skills. I'm sure you have found at least one or two things to do in this game that you enjoy and find it worthy of spending time on. Whatever it is, I guarantee you that just in a few months you will be able to attain high enough levels in it to generate steady influx of money to fund all your ingame needs. All that by "just" playing the game. The cash will just come in naturally. Do not feel bad that your ingame character is inferior to mine or any other old-school weirdo in just any way imaginable. Only idiots would judge others by their levels or wealth. Nobody but a few silly kiddos really care about money or achievement capes or what not. I assure you, those are not the attributes anyone would respect or befriend a person for. So, go and get a life. I mean, get a life, every minute of it, well spent. It's way more important than any amount of cash. Ever.
  4. For all the newbs who never heard about Ashley: And for the rest of us, sorry to bring back all the memories, lol
  5. 126 level 3's would slaughter the three 126s. Why? The summary for level 3s: A guaranteed 252 damage from rings of recoil and similar amount of damage from Vengeance. You kids are forgeting about crossbows and enchantable bolts. With over 100 bolts shooting at once, you are almost guaranteed to strike at least ten lucky lightnings every shot. Guaranteed 50+ damage every shot from Lucky lightnings. Summary for lvl 126s: Instant death from opponents' recoil and vengeance effects if using ancients. Yet, single target attacks are too slow. The only chance 126s have at winning is, theoretically, with a very lucky Guthan effects (read: series of 20 in a row) and clever hit and run tactics. edit: with no armour and weapons or jewels allowed, level 3s would still stand a chance though, just lure the big guys into the new mithril dragons cave
  6. Some of the replies seem like you're debating your egos instead of points :) So, punks, why won't you just accept the fact that everyone is entitled to his opinion? Why do you deem it so important to prove that your opinion is the magna charta, the only right one? Especially when you have not a single piece of any evidence, any actual proof to back up your claims? What did I do to Larry and Sergey that they popped up this page on me - again? Well, since I'm here, I might shortly add a few comments, eh? While this may be true - what do you think exists out there in the real world? Laws and guaranteed punishment if you break them. Unlike in RS with its laughable rule enforcing efforts. Again I would like to reiterate that children as young as five playing are playing because their parents allow it - the responsibility falls on the parent. And, in my opinion, Jagex has been greatly increasing security measures - almost too much in my opinion. Jagex increasing measures - wouldn't it be understandable since their main target future gamers audience will be nine to twelve years olds? They need to work hard on their parent's guide still - at least, thanks to Charles, they included the 13+ part now. Yeah, you get angry, but like I said earlier - these are things we'll be exposed to out "in the real world." And as for killed by another player, that's just part of the game - sorry about your luck. So, tell me, have you been raped in real life? Tell me, is it the few-seconds physical hurt or the aftermath mental issues that haunt you for years that make such an experience so painful? It's the feelings of being helpless, abused victim that greatly surpass any physical pain, pal. Same applies to any such experience, and as you confessed yourself, it doesn't matter if it is ingame or real life. To a young kid's psyche, being betrayed, cheated or abused verbally or in any other way, especially in a suposefully safe enviroment of a preteen-targeted game might prove disastrous. ... Lovely to see so many tipit kids being Jagex's Yesmen, lol. There's really no point to reply, worse try to reason against kids with such attitude :) After all, even the owners of this web seemed to s**t themselves seeing a thread debating negative points of the Runescape game, backed up by credible evidence presented by adults. ... More stupid generalizations... I think I'm going to be repeating myself here on, they've sort of beat the dog dead... their points are redundant and not solid, to say the least. So, will you gain a few levels on a tipit community ladder every time your post count rises, even though you have absolutely nothing to say, no points made, s**t, not having even basic understanding of the subject debated? As I previously stated, on a ego infested kiddy boards? Oh yes you will :\ The female-targeted abuse, even in members worlds, are way beyond extreme. Every single female player on my friends list who quit did so because of the unbearable community issues. It's not only the idiotic remarks, gf-issues, people following you for, well, for as long until you log out or teleport , and way more unethical abuses. Just how many times had I have to witness some idiot purposefully standing in front of a female player cooking on a fire. (I hope I don't need to be more specific) The other day I got a PM from another female player saying that she finally managed to grow up her first cat. I congratulated her, saying that "it is some achievement". Instead of expected "ty", however, I've been flooded by several lines of text explaining that it took her a great deal of care and that she does not need to take such an abuse from me... She's got so much abuse that she automatically assumed that even my "it is some achievement" was just another agressive, in my case ironical comment pushed on her... ... So, what would you do as a parent? You see the scholastic leaflet, the book that says the game is OK for even 9 year olds, if you care to read the Parent's guide PR... As Paulyts50 mentioned earlier, everything in Lumbridge, even the home teleport, free-stuff tutors, the game manual - all's been done specifically to decieve the parents of minors, to lure them into the belief that the game is as safe as Volvo and to let them ride on. ... Oh and, even if the company had no backup files, not even in text forms; even if the game file was one big, already compiled file no-one could find a bug in - which really touched my lungs, kudos to whoever made up that funny comment - there's nothing to stop the game developer to change the few lines of text in manual (changing safe to unsafe) and find -just- one employee who knows how to write in full sentences to post the warnings about the bug on the forums :) In closing, once again, thank you Charles, you are one of the very few who chose deeds over words, which I applaud to and always will.
  7. Me again. Qeltar, I've got a few issues about the article. After reading it I can't get rid of the bad taste in my mouth, the feeling like the author, although no doubt tackling true problems of the game, is more about blackmailing Jagex than actually adressing the problems mentioned within. Firstly, Qeltar, present the facts only, let it on the reader to decide if it's "oh disturbing", "unfair to kids", "unheard of", or whatnot. Let the reader to choose his own stand on the issues presented. It's allright to present your stand about the issues covered, express your feelings about them, sure, but let it be clear that it is exactly just that - the personal feelings of yours as a parent, as a player. I can't stress this enough, because within the most of the article apart from presenting and explaining the facts you are deliberately pressing the reader to adopt your [negative] feelings about the issues, your appaled morals. You leave no room for the reader to make his own stand. Let's say: Instead of presenting the fact that there is a skill, thieving, with all the possible negative connotations within, maybe mentioning that Jagex should have informed parents about it and the need of explanation why is it included and what justifies such a behavior in game (medieval times roleplay, pickopoketings as it used to happen within medieval town markets etc.. for example), you wrote the whole paragraph, I dare to say, purposefully as inspired histeria, propaganda statement (as Snik mentioned on the TH forums) There were more moments like these when I felt like I'm being fed with just another histerics NGO propaganda about whale hunting, third age countries poverty, world peace :wall: but this time, it was all geared towards Jagex, who apparently had to do something unimaginable to the writer of the article. So to sum it up: Fight to improve the game, I bow to you for your efforts, but use reason and facts, not feelings and histerics. In fact, it felt more like Lucky writng it - good points brought up, but the reasoning to back them up - terrible ;) Cheers, once again, hidden lurker. P.S. again, lol: I can't believe it - there's sudenly 2 (TWO!) articles posted within one day on these boards worth reading. Check out Fredz's A Game - The Direction post. (edited spelling mistakes) (edit again as an off topic response to a poster bellow:) Tipit boards are widely unpopular inbetween adults due to it's extreme amount of idiotic one-line posts, forum trolls, attention seekers and ego driven kids. Thus, that's why these boards have been dubbed "kiddy boards" and are mostly neglected by the adult runescape community. Interstingly, I admit it, I made the post before finishing reading the article in question here. Maybe if you'd read it as well (or once again now) you'd understand my motives better as the article, accidently, covers all the issues I happened to mention in my maybe-degrading, but truthful statement.
  8. Hi, firstly, Qeltar, I'm quite surprised to see you posting on these ego-driven kid-infested boards - It's nice to see someone who actually cares about the game and its community around here. Maybe it might be worth a few minutes of my time to post some thoughts as well? But on topic: What do you expect from a company that Ignore the out of date statement and focus on the general appeal of the message - the AMBITION. Not a word about customer support, gameplay, game community... all that's stuck on Jagex's corporate site for a few years now is the simple message: all that matters to us is to exceed [amount] of subscribers. Obviously, preteen and early teen fly-by-nights are a great target audience. I agree that we are soon to experience another "miniclip" effect on the game, its community. All the kiddy webs all over the internet, webs that are often targeted at "bellow the age of ten" audience are as of late full of Jagex's Runescape ads. And yes, as everybody who is able to read past the first sentence in the paragraph knows, there is no age gap in the game. I do realize that I am miserably optimistic, but let's assume that every bellow13 youngling gets a parent to start the game with him/her, go through the intro Island together, see the tutors... The content team has though this out very well. Even the least detail like the blankety-blue colours of all the tutors, everything is purposefully made to look secure, harmless, peacefull. It is my sincerest belief that it were not the beginners to whom Jagex addressed the new tutors - it is the parents, who are to be tricked into letting their kids play all on their own from Lumbridge on... What wrong could happen in such a nice little game to our kids, right? Just a few cents of mine, * dissapears into a billowing cloud of smoke, back to lurking * Cheers. Oh and P.S.: about the gambling: don't you gamble all your possesions, even life while fighting tough monsters, let alone strolling into the wilderness? Same goes for a duel arena, rat pits, etc...
  9. [lurking mode off] If everything's done right, you won't see more than three or four critters coming out from each of the portals before the game is over. So the simple use of brute force against the portals seems to be the bestest possible tactics against the spinners - that is, not allowing them to even appear out of their portals 8-) If you see a spinner or two, DO NOT waste dagger specs on them. Save the specials for portals! Just hit the spinners using regullar attack, or better yet, multi-target ancients. You need to be 90+ ranger/mage with the best gear available to be able to deal 50 damage on portals to make a zeal. You'd have to bring either fully charged crystal bow or runite knives/darts for rangers; high level ancients or charged god spells for magers. Except for the Crystal bow setup, you'd have to spend over 30k cash on runes/runites per minute/round. I've been using Crystal bow (Robin set+ring+hides) for some time now, and even though my range level is 95+ once my bow degraded bellow 5/10 I had an extremely hard time getting the zeal. You really just got 5 to 6 shots at the portal and the game is already over. What I'm trying to say is that you need to be either bloody rich or bloody crazy to range or mage on high level-populated PC worlds. And those few of us that do chose to use range or mage know damn well what to do, no need (not even) for some pro's pro guide  Oh dear, and what do you mean by "defensive tactics"? The Void knight is okay to suffer those five to ten points of damage before the game is over  Yes, I believe this important information needs to be added to the guide and the credit given where credit is due. In bold. Cheers [lurking mode on]
