  1. Death Proof isnt that great.

I enjoyed it. Definitely worth a watch once, at least.

I watched Your Highness today. I was rather excited about this movie for a while, I didn't expect a masterpiece or anything but was expecting it to be pretty awesome. Then last week I actually saw a preview for it (I avoid previews/trailers because they always give away too much) which ended up giving the entire story, so when I went today I was going solely for some laughs. It didn't have as many as I expected. In the end I still did enjoy it, but I think 90% of the reason was Natalie and Zooey.

  2. WEP works fine, it's enough to stop almost every single person that actually would see your network, since almost every single person will see it is locked and not even bother with it. If you are worried about it though your router might have MAC filtering capabilities. But really you don't need to worry at all.

  3. Use a live CD to back up, then reinstall. Even if you do clean up a significant portion of the mess without destroying what functionality Windows still has, you can't very well guarantee that you've removed all the malicious code from the compromised system. There is no "beating" it; your system has died, and it's time to respawn. As a bonus, you'll have taken care of whatever cruft may have accumulated since the last installation.

If it was my computer I would just reinstall windows. That can take a while though, and if it is for someone else then they usually complain about losing stuff (regardless of if you backed it up or not).

That's why I love the rescue disks so much, there is no way for the virus to run since windows doesn't start, so you can generally get rid of the virus pretty easily.

  4. http://filext.com/faq/broken_exe_association.php (there is a link to a registry file on this page, or you can do it manually with regedit)

That should fix the executable files not opening up correctly, but it will just become screwed up again the next time the program runs.

I've found that removing viruses is a lot easier with rescue disc's, then you don't even have to start Windows at all.

Download one of these (or both) erscue disc's on another computer and burn them, then boot from them on the computer with the virus:

  5. I finished my 5 month accutane treatment today. I figured I'd include before and after pics:

Before is on the left, after is on the right. Try to ignore how crappy the second picture is, I always take crappy webcam pictures.

    (Please don't index)

Have any side effects from it? I had horrible acne and it killed it pretty well, however it didn't really treat the rest of my skin too well. At one point it gave me Dermatographic urticaria, which still comes back very slightly every now and then (not bad enough to need medicine anymore). While taking it my skin was so dry my lips were cracked throughout the whole treatment.

It was pretty bad, in the end though all that was temporary.

  6. I've been avoiding this topic for spoiler reasons, but I just got back from seeing it. It was pretty disappointing. I wasn't expecting anything great either, just some mindless action involving chicks with swords/guns killing things in cool ways. Some of those scenes were cool, it just came up short.

  7. I kept on planning to post but figured if I waited long enough then most of the ones I would have mentioned would be mentioned. And they were. A few not mentioned:

    German:

    Lola Rennt

    Hong Kong:

    Lat sau san taam

    Ying xiong

I might have accidentally wrote one someone already mentioned. There's also a few I would recommend that people have just mentioned the director/writer and maybe one or two of their movies (like Miyazaki or Kurosawa) but I'll skip those. Every one of these movies I mentioned is worth watching once, but many you won't want to watch again.

  8. Does anyone know of a program that can monitor the amount of data you use? There is an isp in my city offering cheaper, faster internet, but it's capped at 125gb/month.

What kind of service is it, and what kind of speeds can you get?

125gb is a pretty decent amount, I am downloading pretty much constantly and I am probably only around that level.

  9. 45% on N is going to be faster than 100% on G (45% of 300 is 145 vs full 54 with g). What kind of antenna is it? If it is a stick antenna like most routers come with pointing it straight at the location your receiver is will give you the worst signal (which is still going to be just fine in your situation). The stick should be straight up, the signal is omni directional out from that (parallel with the floor) though it does go up and down plenty.

Basically if it working then don't worry about it. Your internet speeds are most likely way below that anyways.

  10. I have only used the CDs/programs that came with routers three times, 2 times was before I started my job (which includes installing routers) and one time after I knew what I was doing. All three times it was [cabbage]. Here's what you do: reset the router back to defaults (should have a pin hole reset), get rid of Network Magic or whatever it is called on all the computers, restart computers, connect to linksys network which will pop up in wireless network list (or just plug in temporarily), go to 192.168.0.1, wireless settings, change ssid and password, connect to new network name on all computers.

All home wireless routers come set up to get dynamic ip addresses from the ISP, and to hand out local addresses. The internet will work for most people with just plugging it in. Throw those [bleep]ing CDs and stickers that warn you "not to plug in router until you run the CD" into a bonfire, light them on fire, then piss on them when they are done burning. They are there solely to install stupid network administration programs on computers seemingly only to make my job a pain in the ass.

  11. Is that it? The combat looks exactly like oblivion, they're still going with the 1st person view, I liked the U3PC much better, the graphics don't look like much of an improvement and, well it's TES, you don't play them for their story. We saw like 5 enemies, 1 of which i'm sure is a boss (dat dragon). and we didn't really see any gameplay. It was cutscenes, or people walking in town.

As long as it can be modded I will still get the game but the trailer was very disappointing.

The only thing worse than playing an Elder Scrolls game in 3rd person view is playing it on a console.

  12. The Elephant Man (1980) 4.5/5

Holy poopy was this film good. So much emotion between Joesph and the Dr. I loved it. Might watch more Lynch after that one. Even if he didn't write it.

I'd recommend Eraserhead. It's such a surrealist cliche but I love it. Lost Highway is also pretty good. I loved Dune as well, but that's because I love the books and played the video games and Sting is in it

A lot of people rip of Lynch's Dune but I liked it as well.

Eraserhead is a good one to watch once if you really want to see what Lynch is about, but it didn't interest me enough to watch it again. Mulholland Dr. and Blue Velvet were both really great and really weird, they would be good ones to watch.
