  1. The ambient sounds are pretty cool. I went to Lumbridge to check out all the updates, and I actually heard the river. Very cool.

I chose the "scenic" route from Lumbridge to Draynor, and actually heard random bird calls and songs from the trees! Such a simple sound adds so much more depth to the game! I can't wait to go to karamja to see if the monkeys make random "ooo OOO ahh AHH" sounds there!

Also, I really like the blowing sound effect near the entrances to certain cities where you see the crest flags waving in the breeze, such a wonderful thing to add!

  2. I tried out the arrows. I hit 10's with then on rapid. That puts them in the same league as iron arrows.

I went to lumby w1, and was amazed to see that I was nowhere near the highest level there (and I'm lvl 87)

I'm about to go see if I can buy the training arrows from the range shop, I'd prefer that since i like the look of the new bow enough to train with it

Do tell it its true, I hope it is! No more worries about picking up arrows within a minute!

And yea, I hit 8's with no ranger armour/items boosting range on at 42 range, so its not too bad. Plus the bow is just baning hot!

  3. The sword is like bronze and the shield is like wood, but looks good - provokes a lot of "where do you get" and "buy UR SHLD"

It looks like a white castlewars shield.

Mages are left out, they get some standard runes, but (not done that one yet) they ought to get a tinted and untradable version of a standard (15gp) staff as well.

The idea was to replace the starting items given after tutorial Island. Since staves aren't given out when you first start off, they aren't offered to you.

As for the arrows, I think they are the same level as bronze. However, (and this is just based on my ranging with the arrows), they don't seem to break for me. Not one of my 25 has broken yet, and I have ranged quite a bit with them. It is VERY likely that it was just luck, but then maybe they left it that way...either way, they are good so you don't have to worry about arrow theives, and if you're patient you can get a nice supply of them to train with, especially at low levels.

  4. I would hold onto it. Suppose one day you want to come back and play. Having a santa you can sell can help you jump back into the game with a large pool of money to train.

However, if you want to remove all incentive of joining, then I suppose you can just get rid of it to remove temptation. Best bet would be to go to a general shop and just sell it there, or give it to a friend. You could hold a giveaway contest like the one going on right now for the Easter egg, or drop it in a party as well.

  5. I think it's the other way round. Runescape amke millions extra because of miniclip, it makes more sense for them to pay miniclip to host it.

Very true, that does make more sense. I was thinking that Miniclip paid to add the client to get more hits, which would then get more advertising revenue. But that makes no sense the more I think about it.

Either way, I'm sure Jagex doesn't want you hosting a client on your own webpage. When you pay for members, you pay for extra content, not the right to add the client to personal webpages, so I still think its illegal. The safe thing to do would to not even bother with the issue and play it on a separate browser or the Official Client like most other people. But, whatever, message Jagex to find out for sure.

EDIT: I found this on JaGEx's official website:

    Commercial Alliances

    Partnerships - RuneScape

Jagex partners with leading companies to bring the playing experience of RuneScape to as wide an audience as possible.

Broadly, any significant online business who currently has a large and suitable audience could be a potential Jagex partner.

Most Partnerships are done on a revenue sharing basis: earning significant additional revenues for the partner with no additional investment. Jagex can help monetize your audience.

So I guess Miniclip and Jagex simply split profits for Miniclip users, which explains why their Main page for Runescape is different from the official one.

Btw, as an interesting note, apparantly a third website hosts Runescape: http://www.mofunzone.com/

  6. So basically you run the client from a different webpage? I do think they object to that very much. The only places the client can be accessed are the official website and Miniclip. I think that the ability to host the client is something of a right that JaGEx sells (I believe Miniclip Pays Jagex for the client, but I'm not positive), and in essence you might be stealing that right. Truth be told, just doing that is kinda pointless...just switch between windows if you must be on a website and the game at the same time.

  7. All I have to say is.

RSC > RS2 BY FAR. 99% of Rs2 products are too selfish and pixel hungry

Oh? Well, in that case 99% of RSC players still around are egotistical and elitist.

Anyways, I played RSC when it was still available to f2p about a year and a half-ish back. It had a certain...charm to it. I really do wish I could play it, but sadly, even if I got members now, it's too late for me to log on. I actually used to play an MMORPG that had a REALLY small community (100 players or so) and was one of the top 5, with my own in game guild and stuff, so I do understand how a small community can be close and more fun than a large community with lots of anonymous faces.

Also, I do have respect for people like Bluerose (who seems to have almost single-handedly changed the face of the game with her rune smithing), especially when I hear of the terrible banking system of the past. I mean, being able to only mine, smelt and smith in small quantities like that had to have been incredibly hard.

Alas, times have changed, and I missed out on a great experience by finding the game too late...

  8. That is an awesome idea, one thing, aren't the event quests not that long, this one may take a while with all the ingredient gathering

    Otherwise i support

The X-mas 2005 event was probably longer than this event really. So many baubles and boxes to make...

  9. As f2p'ers (and quite a few p2p'ers) know, bank space is hard to manage, especially when you have holiday items and random even items to store in addition to your everyday gear. Increasing bank space would take more resources on JaGEx servers. However, I believe I have created a solution that should prove to be simpler than expanding bank space and use up fewer resources on servers:

    The Special Items Reclaim Stalls/Shops

The basic premise here is that these shops allow you to reclaim untradable "one-of-a-kind" items, such as the newer holiday items or Random events. Once you get one of these items, you head over to the Reclaim stall closest to you and "Register" it with the shop for a fee (ranging from minimal costs (around 100 gp) for holiday items to 1000 gp per item for Random event clothing or one time Quest Items like the Blurite Sword and Dark Dagger). Once registered, if you lose an item, you can recover it for half of what you paid to register the item. For instance, suppose you register a Mime Mask with the stall. This would cost you 1000 gold. Later, if you drop the Mask, either by dieing or just voluntarily, you can go back to any branch of the reclaim stalls and pay a 500 gold fee to get a replacement. Your item is still registered, so if you were to lose it again, you can pay 500 gold to get yet another copy.

These shops and stalls would be located in popular cities and towns, providing for ease of use. In f2p, this would include Varrock, Lumbridge, and Falador, most likely Al Kharid as well, and maybe Draynor and Edgville. Though I am not too familiar with the members world, likely candiates for branches of the shop include Ardoungne, Taverly, Burthrope, Seers Village, Relleka, Yanille, and Canafis, with possible branches in Burgh de Rott and Brimhaven.

A few points I anticipate would come into discussion are:

    Why the rather high costs?

Will this not lessen a f2p player's desire to get members for more bankspace?

Would this not make Thesellia and Diango useless for recovering items?

    Why the rather high cost?

The cost is there so that JaGEx has an incentive to add this feature in game besides convenience to the player: it can serve as a gp drain. We have seen that JaGEx clearly wishes to remove gold from the game, especially with the high costs of training Construction. While this would not be a drain of the same magnitude, in the longrun it can have a decent effect on balancing the market.

Will this not lessen a f2p player's desire to get members for more bankspace?

I really doubt it will have much of an effect. F2p players have a hard enough time managing a bank without random event clothing, and extra bankspace is rarely the perk that attracts them to membership. Usually, its the extra skills, quests, equipment, and minigames that attract players.

Would this not make Thesellia and Diango useless for recovering items?

Maybe a little bit. However, since these two places do remain a free way to recover holiday items, many players in proximity to either NPC may choose to simply visit them and recover items for free.

Feel free to comment/criticize on this idea.

  10. I was just thinking, if the guy from Family Crest had 22 sons (1 for each skill) instead of 3 for you to help out, what would be the gauntlets you'd get from each son at the end (obviously this is just hypothetical, otherwise it'd be an EXTREMELY long quest ). We already have Cooking Gauntlets, Smithing Gauntlets and Chaos (magic) Gauntlets.

If there was a pair of Gauntlets for every skill, what would each pair do? Try to be as unique as you can.

    Some examples:

Runecrafting Gauntlets: Lower the level at which you can craft double natures to 85, and make double laws available at level 93.

Farming Gauntlets: Reduce the growing time by 25% for all crops when worn.

Theiving Gauntlets: Greatly reduce the chances of being caught when theiving from Guards, Knights, Paladins and Heroes.

Woodcutting Gauntlets: Gives a chance to obtain 2 logs at the same time when chopping trees oak and above.

    It's an excellent idea.

But the funny thing that came across my mind would be the Father has to be very potent to create that many children. The Mother also have to be very healthy to give birth 22 times fro 22 children.

That also meant that the Mother will have to be married at quite a young age, and when the last child was born, the first one will already be about 22 years old!

Sorry...kinda drifted off-topic...Hitpoints Gloves! It doubles your current HP level as long as you have it on?

Thats way too overpowered. That effectively turns the maximum for hp into 198, and considering the average member has a hp of 50, it effectively turns the hp of most members into 100. A more balanced idea would be something like 10 hp restored if hp is below 10% and it has been 10 seconds after the end of combat.

  11. Defensive Gauntlets--Reduce damage taken by 3

Attack Gauntlets--Increase accuracy by 25%, reduce strength by 10%

Strength Gauntlets--Increase strength by 15 (not percent), reduce accuracy by 10

Throwing Gauntlets--increase damage of thrown weapons by 2

Mining Gauntlets--increase chance of winning ore

Fishing Gauntlets--increased chance of catching highest fish (i.e. more sharks than swords or tuna)

Farming Gauntlets--increase crop yeilds by 10%

Crafting Gauntlets--1.5 extra exp when crafting

    Fletcher's Gauntlets--Allow for Fletch 1, 5, 10 option

Rouge's Gauntlets--significantly reduce chance of being caught while pickpocketing

    Pyro Gauntlets--light fire without Tinderbox

Lumberjack's Gauntlets--reduce time needed to get logs

    Construction Gauntlets--no idea here

Nimble Gauntlets--able to attempt Agility obstacles 2 levels above your own

    Druid's Gauntlets--Make 4 dose potions

Hunter's Gauntlets--reduce assignment number by 2 (i.e., 100 lessers becomes 98 lessers, but exp given is that for 100 lessers)

Binding Gauntlets--make 1 extra rune for every 10 ess crafted

    Monk's Gauntlets--+5 to prayer

  12. I finished highschool this year, and let me tell you, you can definately fit Runescape in, even with AP classes. I took 7 last year and 7 this year, and even with homework and studying, I managed to get good grades (in the top 5% of my class even), good test scores, and had time to hang out and play. The key is to spread your work out. Say in one class you have a 30 page chapter to outline in a week. If you divde it up by day, you would need to outline only 6 pages per day which really isn't much, about 15 minutes to 30 minutes.

Also, afterschool, unless you have a sport/club, take an hour to do something fun; hang out with friends, play RS, etc. Also make sure you eat a light snack. You will relax and be able to focus much better on your work when you finish in addition to giving you an excuse to have some fun! In fact, what I usually did was to take this hour long break, via clubs, games, or friends, did one hour of exercise, did some homework, took a break for dinner, and then did homework again.

Another good time to play is roughly half an hour before you go to sleep. Some studies suggest that when you sleep, you mind "dumps" the last half our worth of information you memorized, making it harder to recall. I would recommend that you do something else for the last half hour, like watching TV, relaxing, meditation, or even playing RS. I forget the exact reason why this happens, but it believe it involves something about not having enough time to process the information.

Regardless, never put RS before schoolwork and friends. Its more something you should fit around schoolwork. Even with your busy schedule, you should be able to find some time to play RS.

Good luck with those classes and the rest of you school year!

  13. Don't forget the occasional med helms attained from a drop or sold by players for 10k. Those are good too, but way to hard to get in mass amounts. Stick with steel and mith plates.

Alternatively, something I havent tried but may work, is to collect the earth staffs that spawn in the lava maze in the wildy and alch them. If over 300 gp, you can net a nice profit.

  14. Yeah I was sort of thinking like that too. Like how the bones to bananas got a better spell (bones to peaches) why not be able to unlock a spell, telekentic pull, that can pull you to places. As a method of transportation, kind of like you said. :D

Yea, and add telekentic push to force stuff away and wander around as a Jedi!

I personally thought of the river idea too, but with other places too. For example, if there is a deep chasm blocking your way, but you notices a large boulder on the other side, you can telepull your way across. However, perhaps to prevent abuse, it can't work through stuff like gates and fences? Telegrab can work since the item you grab is small enough to pass through or over the fence or gate, but you yourself are too large to do either...

This could add a new dimension to quests not only from easier travel but also from new puzzles; imaging pulling levers or something in the right order to disable traps from across the room, while someone else has to risk their way across!

  15. The first may be annoying to some, but the second, with stuff like "great stuff", "take a look and see", "lots of great stuff", etc. would suggest that you are actually desperate and trying to sell something that might not be that great after all.

Also, if I constantly repeat "Buying 1 law 500 gp!" in a market area, I shouldn't be penalized for it.

Besides, beggers don't just repeat "Fr33 st00fs pl0x!". They too mix it up:

    Sir, can I have money/armor/weapons?

    Please sir, I'm poor

If you give me, I leave you alone.

    Give me money noob...

    etc.

The point is, just penalizing people who repeat the same phrase 4 times or more would harm more honest players, especially when stealing their most valuable items...imagine a crystal bow or barrows armour piece being taken simply for trying to sell a bunch of runes!

Or even worse, imagine trying to sell a collection of rares and being teleported into deep wildy in the middle of a clan war! Way to harsh a punishment.

I do support the author's beggar NPC on tutorial island. It would be even more effective if it followed you around saying stuff like "Fr33 st00fs pl0x", "Can I please have free stuff?", "Please, I poor", etc. before you talk to it and deny it any money.

Also, perhaps to reinforce the message further, perhaps to the combat instructor (Vannaka), you ask for more free stuff when he gives you your weapons, and he yells at you for begging, etc. Maybe with the mage at the end, if you ask for more free stuff as an option, he turns you into a chicken (non attackable) for a while to teach you a lesson.

  16. Regular armor:

Basic metals (bronze, iron, steel, black, etc.), regular leather, studded leather, coif, and green dhide.

    Treasure trails armor:

    Wizard (g) and (t)

    Addy (g) and (t)

    Black (G) and (t)

    Rune (g) and (t)

Zammorack, Guthix, and Saradomin Trimmed armor

    Studded Armor (g) and (t)

Green Dhide armor (g) and (t)

    Addy (h1-5)

    Black (h1-5)

    Rune (h1-5)

    Misc:

    Canafis Coloured Gloves

Contrary to a previous poster, f2p cannot wear blue dhides.
