  1. It would, as stated, make some skills too easy. But what if it were only applied to stackable objects? I know sometimes it can be annoying not to be able to drop a certain number of coins out of your inventory and things like that. And stackables can be dropped in one click anyway.

Yea thats what I was thinking. If applied to stackable objects, I see no harm in "Drop 1,5,10,All,X". After all, no skill would be made easier, and it can work to be convienient.

  2. A few thoughts on PKing

First, I think we need a level restriction. That is, until you hit level 10 or so, you can't be attacked nor can you attack.

Second, and this is only in conjunction with the first, make areas near the outskirts and in cities safe areas, and the rest as open PKing areas. However, you will still have level restrictions. basically, if there is land between two safe areas, the "deepest" PKing area would be in the center (that is, you can attack people who deviate farther from your level in the center than near either safe zone).

Also, in a few special towns, create Player Arenas, in which players can fight without loosing items, or can place stakes, etc. In fact, what you can do later is to introduce special "in-between" items in events in these arenas; that is, suppose Platinum weapons are useable at level 60, and mithryl at 50. You could create a prize weapon (one of a kind) that can be used at level 55 or something.

Oh and also, see if you can incorporate mazes with hidden dangers (like hidden damaging floors, etc) into the game, with decent rewards for completing them. It would be awesome.

  3. First quest:

Level requirements: level 5 or so to begin, level 10 suggested for ease of finishing.

Quest Start: As you attempt to leave the beginner town, the Guard wishes to see if you have a badge of Passage. You say that you don't, and don't know how to get one. He tells you to talk to an NPC named Examiner. You go to him and he talks about how he has to test to see if people are truly ready to face the dangerous world outside, and must prove themselves. He assigns a series of three tasks.

Task 1: Create a simple defense potion. He requires it to be of a high quality.

Reward: Ability to create defense Potion Plus, which increases defense for longer, but takes longer to brew, requires more items to brew, and the items needed are rarer.

Task 2: Kill three chickens and bring their meat to the examiner

Reward: Ability to cook meats higher than chicken.

Task3: Explore a low level dungeon and return a rusted blade(for warriors), Rotten bow(for rangers), and Broken staff(for Wizards) from within. For now, only two levels of the dungeon are accessible, due to a seal blocking further passage.

Reward: He takes the rusty blade and fashions a Razor Blade from it, a Ranger's Bow fromt he rotten bow, or a Apprentice Staff from the Broken staff. Each of these is more powerful than beginner equipment, but not overly powerful. Also, in later towns, they can be bought.

Final Task: After the three tasks, he asks you to enter the third level of the dungeon and defeat the Giant Tarantuala in there. This is a "boss" battle. The tarantula can attack from a distance by shooting poisonous venom (thus antidotes are recomended), and can trap the player for a few seconds with webshots. However, it has low defense and attack, and should be nothing more than a small challenge to beat. Afterwards, you get a "Spider's Head", which you give to the Examiner, and the quest is over.

Reward: about 1000 Exp in the combat style which you used to kill the Tarantula, ability to buy Razor Blades, Ranger's Bow, and Apprentice Staff from players and shops, and an badge of Passage, which allows you to leave the beginner town.

  4. Thinking in more "basic"....

    I need~

A ore higher than mithrylOrichalicum, Platinum

Basic wepon Ideas (aka types long sword)flail, pike, battle axe, pole-arm (long weapon thats a mix of a spear and axe), dagger, mace, Rapier (mainly for stabbing), lances, and for rangers, javelines, bow and arrows, crossbows with bolts of various metals. For armor, you have chain mail, gauntlets, boots, plate bodies and legs, helmet. Mages can buy robes and wizard hats, along with wands/staffs. Rangers can buy fur clothing, such as bear and deer fur, leather, etc.

What you think should be in the first launchbasic weapons and armor up to mythril, bows and arrows, and a small, skippable tutorial

Basic Setup for a town...what should be init?beginner's armory with cheap items, basic foods, a map, and then an Inn for healing (at a fee based on the amount of HP you need to recover). Also, the Inn can restore energy at a faster rate.

Create a small training gym in which you have "masters" who get you started off in each of the skills, up to about 3 levels, teaching you the basics.

Include some NPC's to give hints of the time period, and include a few quests, like two basics, and a slightly more challenging one that ends in a cliff hanger, that will make sure you have a following waiting for an update

    also

A player logs on at midnight. Few people will be on, so there is an easier capture task. Rather, make this a mini-game between two sides (like in RuneScape between Saradomin and Zamorak) that players join to play. Rather than it be a large part of the structure of the game, it could be a side detail put in for fun and to have something to do other than skills and monster killing.

easy to remedy: Make it so that a battle can be declared only if there are x number of people on the world, and each kingdom involved has a minimum of y players in each, at a roughly equal number. Also, if you create a set time during which conquests could take place, or place the moderators or such in charge of each kingdom, it just might work out.

  5. Make potion making more involved...that is, require the use of a fire, cauldron, water, then the ingredients, along with a system in which careful timing to mix the ingredients allow for a better quality potion.

For example, suppose I'm making a potion for healing, which will involve the following items:

    1. Flax seeds

    2. Bear Meat

    3. Flour

To make the potion, I would light a fire, or find an existing fire place, and place a cauldron on top of it, then fill it with water.

Next, I would let it boil (make this take about 10 seconds), and add my flax seeds. When I'm ready to add the bear meat, I wait for the "optimum" time, which can be determined by a "potion bar"; basically, its a bar in which a pointer moves across, and I must attempt to add the ingredient when the pointer is in the correct range of times (listed on the bar). The time would vary for each ingredient and potion, but it would be readily accessible. Once I do that, the timer is reset for the next ingredient. If however, I was too early in adding an ingredient, I may get a raw potion, since it is not completely cooked, can do slight damage to me if I were to drink it, while adding it too late would provide a much lower bonus.

Also, perhaps you can make castle combat a possibility. That is, when you are first created, you join a specific kingdom to which you are initially bound. Each kingdom could then declare war on another, and players can comprise armies leading assualts on one another. This would open a new dimension of team based combat; on one side, the infrantry must work to overcome the massive firepower of a castle and its walls, find a way to over come obstacles like moats, and manage to survive once the castle walls have been penetrated. Meanwhile, the players in the castle must work together to operate the heavy artiliery (catapults, etc.), or line up in formation to use volleys of arrows to halt the enemy. And if they do manage to penetrate the castle walls, you must then shift your strategy and kill the enemy as they enter. Of course, experience would be given per task; if you are simply maging people from a distance, you will get magic experience, where as participating in something like the use of a catapult can give multiple bonuses such as strength (if the stats are similar to runescape), archer/ranging, and construction/carpentry (or crafting to an extent).

Also, the player can contribute money to their home kingdom which would be used to buy new defensive structures (construct a moat, add a spear-wall fence, buy more catapaults, etc.). Also, conquering a castle would afford great riches and more territory for a kingdom. Which leads to my next idea:

Each kingdom would have a certain amount of territory, which is altered as it wins and loses battles against others. This territory can be used exclusively by the members of that kingdom for certain skills like farming or mining. Also, should another player attack a kingdom's player in its territory, guards and such would aid the kingdom's player in fighting back against the oppressor.

Of course, there would be great expanses of neutral territory for use by all, and players can individually travel to different kingdoms to buy exclusive merchandize and whatnot.

  6. 1) There are more greedy and happily selfish people in this game than there are those ready and willing to go the extra mile, at least it seems so since this is one of the only threads I could find of its kind.

Maybe thats because the rest of them don't make a big deal out of it in order to gain praise. If you are truly helping others purely for intrinsic desires, I see no reason to make a topic about giving out free items. Also, you must not have used the search button, as I have seen many threads about giving new players sets of iron and weapons, or whatnot, even in my short term as a tip.it member.

    2) The merchant or profiteering will turn to other means to make money that is more work oriented, something that requires greater skills for their character and yields a SLIGHTLY lower profit margin.

I just want to let you know that true merchants make so much more money without using skills; I highlty doubt that its only a slightly lower profit margin.

    2) With so few people following altruistic drives it will take a monumental upswelling of community to create a Utopian ideal within the virtual world. Therefore even an army of 100's is dwarfed by the hundreds of thousands on, and cannot be everywhere at once to counter every single profiteer.

Ok, here, and in the first quote you admit that those "following altruistic drives" are a small number dwarved by the supposedly "greedy" majority, yet...

I believe that there are more people out there like myself than you can easily see, but due to the loud minorty of Nitzchians like yourself our presence is uncounted. If we were to simply realize we are legion and find a way to work in concert your way of doing things might just suffer massive changes.

Here all of a sudden the Nitzchians become the minority and you the majority, albeit with the minority louder than the majority. Contradiction? I do believe so.

  7. you can raise the following stats to level 3 prior to leaving tutorial island:

    Woodcutting,

    fire making

    fishing,

    cooking

    mining

    smithing

    attack/defense/strength

    range

    mage

prayer (while fighting rats in the pits, keep killing them and buryin their bones).

As for the mage trick, thats pretty old.

  8. u should use a scimmy. a b-axe can get like 4 hits in the same time that a scimmy gets 6 hits, (i've tested them both). scimmy also gives you a strength bonus = good for getting high hits.

the baxe gives a higher stength bonus and is more accurate...someone did a few tests in another thread somewhere else, and found that withing the same time period they worked out to do the same damage. The schimy attacks more often but misses more often, while the baxe hits higher and more accurately but swings slower. For training purposes, I would use a schimy, but for pking, I might use a baxe; against wariors, the crush attack will help more than a slash attack would.

  9. The problem is that the pures are sort of against the main goal of Runescape having a lot of skill to exploit.

Or, do they focus on the main goal of doing what you truly want to do in the world of Runescape (Glienor or sumthing like that). Perhaps you want to be nothing but a mage, and see people who use other weapons as barbaric. Perhaps you are the brawny warrior who's idea of a good defense is to smash the opponent into a pulp, or the more collected type who feels protecting oneself takes precedence over pure strenght. Perhaps you are a ranger who feels that speed and distance are the key to victory. Or perhaps you are one of those who feel that the life of violence is not yours, and thus prefer to become the miners, fishermen, lumberjacks, and chefs of runescape. Or, perhaps you are the young entreprenuer (sp?) who wishes to make it big in the world, without having to actually go and waste time training skills.

My point is that there is no "main goal" for Runescape. Anyone with any interest can find something to do. Thats the beauty of it.

  10. what can the archesr wiled up to

probably maple with steel arrows, with up to studded leather items, as those are more likely to exist in the land these people come from ;)

Now im just curious, but do we all start with basic armor on? Like maybe leather chaps and body (level 1) for the warriors and what not, and Monks robes for priest? or are those also acquired?

  11. Well, I was checking my calander and noticed Aprils Fools Day (April 1 for those who don't know) is on a Saturday. As such, I figured I have time to plan an event I've wanted to for quite a while now. Basically, it will be a massive celebration for April Fool's day, with a bunch of fun events planned.

We will start off in Lumbridge, where we will use our various toy items, from horses, and disks, to holiday items like Marionettes, Rubber Chickens, and Yo-yo's, (heck, even the halloween zombie head) to wander the castle grounds and just have fun and chill for a bit. At this time, I hope to drop plenty of beer, and hopefully we can have a small dance party go on at the same time.

Next, we will march to varrock, following the path along River lum and the Cow pastures. Of course, we will continue to play with our toys on the way there.

We will enter varrock from the southern entrance and march to the Center. Here, we will have another dance party, with more beer provided by yours truly, and then start a few more festivities. First, those who have rubber chickens will group together, and travel in one group (or a few smaller groups if there are alot of people), whacking people as they go. Those who do not can follow and just hang out, or go away for a little while and come back later for the last event: the Costume Contest.

    April Fool's Costume party:

There will be two sections: the Members and Non-Members. In the Members contest, any item in all of runescape may be used, while non-members is restricted to f2p items. The contest will be judged by me and two other volunteers (those who judge may not participate in the actual contest). There will be two winners in each group: First place and a runner up. The costumes will be judged on a criterion of "Silly-ness" (basically a humor factor), astethic appearance (do the colors clash too much, or is it pleasing to the eye?), and most importantly, creativity. A costume may include all equipable items, including weapons. Each winner will recieve a random prize (not junk, naturally, but also don't expect something like 200K for first place or sumthing, after all, this is all going to be paid by me). Random event items are not prohibited.

Additionally, there will be a "NPC Look-a-like" contest. Contestants will dress up as any NPC (attackable or not) and the best will win a prize. There are no separate members or non-members section, and full Barrows, mime, camo, and leiderhosen will NOT count, as those inherently imitate the appropriate NPC and thus are a cheap way to win; i wish to see creativity. At the time of judging, you can state which NPC you are imitating. Judging will place in the center courtyard of Varrock Castle. About 5 minutes before the judging starts, I will be in the center, yelling the glowing message:"All those in the April Fool's contest go to Castle Now", or something similar. At the scheduled time, we will go in the courtyard, and line up. If possible, I would like to gather a list of participants for the costume contest earlier so that it may run smoothly. Note that you may JOIN all three contests, but can win only ONE of them.

Of course, this would be a pain to run myself, and hopefully I can get volunteers to help out. Here are some basic positions needed:

    Costume Judge 1--

    Costume Judge 2--

Beer Runners (helps me run to bank and get more bear to drop at the party; there can be multiple people, and I will be supplying most, if not all, of the ale)--

Back Up Party leader (will take over my duties in case I cannot make it to the event)--

    DATE: April 1, 2006 (Saturday)

WHEN: Lumbridge protion: 1:00 PM EST,

March to Varrock: 1:30 PM EST,

    Varrock gathering: 1:35 PM EST,

Varrock Chicken Whacking Group: 1:50 PM EST,

    Costume Party: 2:00 PM EST,

    WORLD: 7

What to wear: Costume, whatever Silly stuff you have,

What to bring: Probably nothing too valuable; these large events tend to attack Evil Chickens. DO bring your toys. I'm not sure if toy horses are tradable (i know disks aren't), but if they are, I will *try* to stock pile a few to drop at the party. Still, you can bring your own. Also, if you can get a rubber chicken, DEFINATELY bring it, as this will be like, five times more fun with one.

If this gets enough support, I will definately start gathering beers and whatnot.

Oh and last but not least, sign-ups for the Costume party:

    F2P Silly Costume:

    1.

    2.

    3.

    ...

    P2P Silly Costume

    1.

    2.

    3.

    ...

    NPC Costume

    1.

    2.

    3.

    ...

If you want in a costume party, please state which category you wish to be in (you can participate in more than one, but can only win once).

Also, if you want to be a judge or beer runner, please post. I will hand pick the back up to ensure that someone trustworthy can take over should I be absent.

Also, if you have any suggestions, please, feel free to post them or PM me. I really want input, even if it is negative.

  12. I own a level 3 pure woocutter.

And now you think I use autos don't you? Did it ever occur to you that maybe I don't feel like training my character all over again?

Yea i kinda know what you mean. Unless I see autoer behavior, I generally give them the benefit of the doubt. Especially if they want to be a pure ranger or mage later on, as those have high upkeep costs. They probably train a non combat skill to raise money for buying runes or arrows for training.

Then there are others out to show that even a level 3 can make money, usually to shut up those other low levels complaining their combat levels is a handicap to making money.

Again, I generally give the level 3 the benefit of the doubt.

  13. You're reacting like this is the first time you've seen santas be manipulated? It happens all the time really, and jagex doesn't do barely enough to counter it. Not that they can with how the forums are currently set up - but they could change the forums in a way to stop that problem entirely. I'd post about it, but it would take awhile, so unless someoen asks me to reply with how it would work, I won't bother.

Anyway, posts on that forum have a lot of weight since it's so massively viewed, and people post fake trades so soem people can't tell what trades are real and which are fake. It messes everything up, but the manipulation does gets countered by the eventual compensation of prices falling a little back down and then stalling for awhile. It's too bad that it's so easily to manipulate. In a real life situation doing what they do lands you in jail.

If you have time later, could you perhaps post the method here, or pm it to me? My curiosity is piqued by this post.

Bubsa, I believe the main reason there are so many more Santas then hween masks is that, from what I heard, there was a great influx of players and/or accounts between the two drops, and that people, seeing how masks where being sold for higher prices, began to horde up on santas with greater numbers than for phats or masks.

  14. firstly i'd like to see the range stuff expanded including things for lower rangers such as actulay using the archery targets until your level 5 like the dummys and there being a metal bow which is made of gregorite which is an extremly flexy metal and it has slightly better stats for the lvl 60 ranger insteal of the magic bow also there should be a quest called "The Lost Brother" which you find out the long lost Barrows brother Hhanzi who went to Jarakam which we now call Karajma and you stumble upon his tomb when asked to go on an archlogical dig for the digsite then you awake him from the tomb and have to kill him (lvl 150 at low power) with his armour and attacks (Weapon: Hhanzi's War Blades) and when he is killed he drops the Pendent of Arachnih Which lets you proceed further into the treasure chamber. you are then attacked by lvl 100 Grave robber gohsts who drop some damaged blades you then travel to the sword expert in port khazard and he faints when you show them him. you then go to make the "Awakening Draught" to awake him this needs 50 Herblaw

you give it to him he says what they are and where to go to have them restored you go there and find the person has been killed by a swarm of locusts but theres a note on his desk saying how to restore them (65 Crafted needed and 50 firemaking) you heat them up they catch fire you pour water on them and add some drops of awakening potion and a demon appears from it you kill it and it drops hhanxi's war blades you take them to the digsite (Quest Complete) Reward 15k Strength 20k Craft And Fire and ability to weild all Hhanzi Equipment (Armour got from tomb after more visits - gets harder each time + you don't keep the warblades

amazing, that long post is but two sentences!

as for the quest...it seems to have potential. If you make it like barrows, with a constant upkeep cost, but also requiring you to fix each item with fire making and crafting, it would really give a boost of usefullness to firemaking, and interest more people in crafting, especially if you have to fix it if given through a trade. But seeing as how barrows armor is strong enough for the playing field right now (save for the weak and useless Karils), it seems unnecessary. I dont even think barrows have hit their one year aniverssary yet, and already you want a set of equal (or more likely greater) power.

The archer training to level 5 sounds pretty nice, that i would actually like to see.

As for the level 60 bow, It kinds seems useless to me.

  15. Make up your own little stories and play them out. Talk to the NPC's like they're real people and watch everyone stop and stare at you.

Yea, like a member friend of mine got a wand from the training arena, and since we both like harry potter, we went around f2p as harry (him) and ron weasly (me). To match the part of ron, i went and redid my hair, got the bobble scarf (closest to gryfindor colors), black robes (look old and ragged like weasley robes would), and wc'ed until my axe head fell off so it looked like i had a wand on me.

We wanderd aroud, using the White Knights Castle as the main hogwarts building, Draynor Manor as the shrieking shack, Wizard's tower as Gryffindor house, Draynor village as Hogsmeade, etc. We took "classes" like "transfiguration" (alchemy), potions (basically just mixing Strenght Potion (1-2 doses) together), stuff like that. A lot of people called us freaks, but it was so fun. We even had a random girl join up with us as Ginny Weasley.

Just goes to show how one can have fun doing stupid stuff like that.

  16.

Since when is Jagex removing rares?

They aren't, but why is that relevant? Thanks for that canned meat

oh it is most relevant! For this entire post is based on the assumption that Jagex is planning to remove rares. Behold:

So Jagex, do not take rares out of them game even though I think the economy is destined to crash under their weight no matter what you do. Think of a master plan, and stick to it. That's all I can say.

Now if this person did not believe that Jagex will be removing rares, what was the point of telling Jagex not to remove these items? Why would he name his topic "Rares--Don't Get Rid of em Jagex" lest he truly believed that Jagex is about to remove them?

As for the actual content of his post, it has been said many times on these forums in almost any thread complaining about the high cost of rares, and thus is not new at all.
