I use Mandrake, now known as Mandriva. Everybody I talk to now raves about Ubuntu Linux.
  2. All you have to do is stand in the corner and guard when he shoots ice at you. They fly back at him and knock him down. You just run down, wack him in the face a few times, then run back to the corner and repeat the process.
  3. Penance from Final Fantasy X: International. Dude takes like 45 minutes to beat.
  4. I use AdBlock extension for firefox and have blocked out most of the ads. I even went one further and blocked out the entire ad-frame along with it.
  5. I leave my PC running all the time, unless it's happens to be storming and I'm there to turn it off. I've noticed no big difference in my electric bill between leaving it running and turing it off.
  6. It's more than likely lag due to server load. Try playing on a less crowded server. If the problem persists, it may be that your PC is having trouble running the game fast enough. Java is resource intensive. Try playing on low-detail if you aren't already.
  7. I can admit that it took a little getting used too (flashy colours and pop music? for a ff game?) but im wondering, how did they implement the dressphere improperly? I found it worked perfectly cause i could change skills any time i wanted. It was flawed because there was little to no strategy in the battles, so changing dress spheres in battle was unecessary. Once you find the garment grid that allows you to cast white magic, you will almost never have to change to a new outfit. Whatever floats your boat... i found it a big help. You cant win if you only have a white mage, and two attackers in some battles. I could go into specifics, but i feel it uneeded. Itr was very good becase some dressheres got some jobs done (for example the harder battles with elementals and machines, the gun mage did perfect cause it did lots of damagae to them). But if you think its flawed... With the exception of a few bosses, mostly the optional ones, simply pressing attack over and over again will win a battle. I played through the majority of the game with everyone on their original dress spheres, without any trouble. The only time the game is challenging, you still don't have to change dress spheres, because by then you have Mascot.

  9. Odd are that if you have a relatively new computer, you will NOT have to mess with jumper settings on the hard drive. Most hard drive manufacturers leave the jumper on cable select, so you only have to determine the master/slave relationship by which slot on the IDE cable you plug it into. Hooking up a separate hard drive is easy and painless.

Virtual memory is space on your hard drive that acts like RAM when your physical memory is used up. Go to your control panel and then to system. Click on the advanced tab and then setting under performance. Click on the advanced tab on the new screen that pops up and look at the bottom. YOu should see something telling you how much virtual memory you have allocated. I'd make it at least a gig.

  13. FFVII was the first FF game I ever played and I loved it. It is a great game and a great RPG, but it isn't "omg best game eva!!!!111" by any means. I liked FFVIII better than VII, and I still do. The main character was apathetic, deep and complex. Howeve the battle system needed a bit of tweaking. FFIX is one of my favorites, because the characters actually had a bit more personality in combat. In VII and VIII, characters had personality until combat began, and then you discover they are practically all the same. The materia/junction governed them all. FFIX made each character unique to play as. FFX is currently my favorite I think(I have the international version: Dark Aeons :)). The story line, graphics, sound and gameplay were all amazing. The sphere grid system expanded on the customization of VII and VIII, while still "locking" characters in their prospective roles throughout most of the storyline like IX. Lulu was the mage, Auron was the powerhouse, etc. FFX-2 took a bit of getting used to. Unlike previous FF games, this one didn't really take itself too seriously for most of the game. However, about midway through, the game takes a more serious turn. The dress sphere system would have been great, but they failed to implement it correctly. I'd love to get my hands on the international version, even though it's all in Japanese. Creature capture made sounds awesome. :( FFII(IV Jap) was fun until *SPOILER* Cecil became a paladin. Ruined the entire game.
  14. I have a system with windows and a system with linux hooked together with a KVM switch. I mainly use windows for playing games and general web browsing. I use linux for software development and testing. I use IceWM rather than KDE or GNOME, since both are way too bloated.

Not to be condescending, but the SP2 firewall is a joke. It's the equivalent of locking your car door but leaving the windows down.
  16. If you really want to download visual styles, is suggest you download a uxtheme.dll patch. Windows has the ability to skin windows out of the box, but the skins must be digitally signed by microsoft. So far there are only like 2 that are signed(Luna and some other one). Patching the .dll allows you to use un-signed .msstyle visual styles. You could go the other route and download something like StyleXP or Windowblinds, but they are proprietary software, so you will either have to cough up the money, or be annoyed with reminders to buy their software.
  17. It is possible to make a firefox client. However, it wouldn't be all that usefull as a stand alone executable, since you wouldn't be able to use profile specific extensions, such as adblock. I have made a firefox client that is an extension(xpi). Once installed, Runescape Client becomes avaiable under the Tool menu. When launched, it opens a new window that doesn't have any menubar, location bar, nav buttons, etc. It's just a game window. However, since it's launched from within the firefox chrome, it allows you to keep profile specific options. After it opens you can just close the normal firefox window, unless you want to keep it open for normal browsing. There is a way to straight launch the .xul file without having to load it as an extension, so you don't have to launch firefox at all to use it, but it loads slower, and it doesn't always seem to load the profiles correctly. Screenshot: Now if only sound would work correctly in firefox....
