  1. I'm just in a sour mood.

    http://forum.tip.it/topic/279657-27-oct-2010-emergent-gameplay-letter/

I was poking fun at jagex's idea of the definition of emergent gameplay.

though i'm really not sure if shark brewing should be classified as emergent gameplay either. you're using both the shark and the brew exactly how they're supposed to be used, it's just that you can use them faster than you'd initially expect to be possible (i guess?)

anyway, venging someone who is in singleway combat obviously makes a fight unfair...

is it possible to get any number of people to veng a single person? perhaps we should organize squads of vengers to go all veng random pkers, then everyone would complain that those pkers were getting such a huge unfair advantage it would have to be changed

  2. The way it operates it sounds like it was originally a bug, but if Jagex actually bothered to fix it terrible pkers would whine that it's 'emergent gameplay' and it would get fixed, just like the shark-brew thing.

well that argument falls flat because venging someone doesn't involve you throwing a gnomeball around, so it can't be emergent gameplay.

obviously it shouldn't be possible to get help from a friend in a 1v1 area, jagex either overlooked it, can't figure out how to fix it, or is limited by the current game engine, or the people who code it weren't given the latest up to date specifications

  3. i worked the numbers out and even if you brew to 1138 hp from 990, and then are hit for all of your health you'll still only reduce the damage by like 12% overall.

to anyone saying "but it says UP TO x%", if this is what they meant, then they could just as easily written "soaks up to 100% of the damage... 0% of the time" these shields will never soak 7%, or 14% of the damage you receive in a hit. chaotic shields aren't even that appealing, i don't understand why they had to 1) apply the soak to only 200+ hits, and 2) apparently change the soak percentages from 10 and 20 to 7 and 14

  4. even if you replace the 10% with 7% and the 20% with 14%, you'll still never soak up to that much of all the damage. it only reduces damage over 200. the people who wrote the knowledge base completely misunderstood the way the shields work

and the wording on the equipment screen "absorb magic" is completely misleading as well. that also suggests that X% of all damage received of that style is absorbed

  5. Really?

So how about reinbursing the THOUSANDS of players JaGeX scammed into thinking it was up to 10% and up to 20%? I want my tokens back.

I've had a chat with Mod Chris L, who knows the code better than I do.

Suppose the shield has a melee damage absorption percentage of 14, and you get hit for 300 damage in melee.

    The reduction is:

    (300 - 200) * 14% = 14.

    The remaining damage is therefore (300 - 14) = 286.

The Dungeoneering kiteshields tend to use 14% and 7%, not whatever the KB says.

Unfortunately the guys who write the KB don't always get the most up-to-date version of the information. If the game gets changed slightly just before launch, they KB often won't get updated to match. The KB guys are very happy to fix things when they're pointed out via the bug report form.

Gl JaGeX with floods of rants.

The chaotic shield soaks up to 10% of all received melee damage and up to 20% of all received ranged damage. Magic damage is not soaked up at all.

so the damage reduction only applies to any damage over 200...

  6. Topics to be covered:

    1) Potions; overloads vs. extremes (when to re-pot?)

    2) Weapons; e.g. handcannon vs. rune crossbow (if so, what bolts?) - chaotic rapier vs. maul, etc.

    3) Armour; void vs. e.g. dragonhide

    4) (familiars won't be covered as steel titan is obviously the best familiar for profit @ TDs, but please assume that the person is killing using a unicorn)

    5) Anything else? What spot you use? Luring?

    Thanks

i do not understand poiint 4.

on point 1, assuming you are using the steel titan, you won't be able to heal through the unicorn, which means you will have to bring an alternative source of food. overloads and brews are the obvious choice here, as it condenses the most healing into one inventory spot

another point i'd like to discuss... prayers vs curses. i personally use prayers when not using titan, and curses when i am.

    overloads - always

rapier is the best without divine, cls with divine

void is the best armor if you can switch with it

use steel titan, unicorn is crap

use the north spot and alternate demons

deflector with barrows gloves, or regular void with defender?

edit: sorry, forgot that deflector rules out claws. i've been testing a lot of variants lately

  7. Adamant bolts are 350k to 560k XP an hour is you use mousekeys.

Only thing I can really help you with.

So it turns out like I was thinking of broad bolts rather than broad arrows, and so the question (albeit a different one) still stands. Anyone know?

there are two major methods to fletching broad bolts with mousekeys.

    1. the 456+ method

pressing these keys in sequence moves the mouse to the left, left-clicks, moves to the right, left clicks, and can then be repeated. this essentially uses the left pile on the right pile over and over again

    2. the 5+ method

pressing the 5 and + keys at the same time in your inventory results in a double click. you are responsible for moving the mouse between the two piles. this method is generally harder than the 456+ method, but most believe it to be faster. i'm not terribly good at it but after like an hour of trying it i was able to fletch as many bolts as i could with the 456+ method, indicating that i could probably go faster than the 456+ method using the 5+ method.

  8. Firstly, let me just say I know that there is a AoW thread about this. But it doesnt seem to include extreme pots - is this on purpose?

So basically what I need to know is the best stats/inventory atm, given the "new" herby pots and all those new items etc.

    Thanks :D

are we to assume the player using this inventory would have overloads, 99 summoning, all chaotic weapons? or are we trying to find the ideal set up *for you* ?

  9. i don't understand how so many people interpreted this wrong. he wants to achieve exactly 100m woodcutting experience, through a combination of cutting f2p trees

    i'll look into it...

    Thank you. :)

    & Yea', it's a downer.

which tree do you want to cut the majority of? eg, there are probably many solutions, and i wouldn't want to tell you the one that had you cut the most normal trees if you prefer cutting yew

  10. It's not luck, it's chance.

'luck' is a term we assign to some event happening...

there is a chance of a tossed coin landing on heads, and it's a matter of luck whether or not it does

you're lucky if you win the lottery, and it was just chance if you did win

at least, that is how i interpret it

  11. hmm so i pretty much got 88 summon and spent 22m for nothing? I dont bosshunt much so...yea i guess that was pointless

it's the logical choice to bring whenever you're using a beast of burden for long trips, and it's just a staple ability for players who want to break into the 'elite' crowd

tds are incredibly easy with the unicorn if you're good at killing them, and the unicorn ability doesn't interrupt combat which is cool.

i wouldn't regret getting the unicorn.

  12. Think about which you're going to do more. Rapier for Frost Dragons, definitely. I hit pretty frequently at TDs with rapier too, though, but I don't have cls to compare.

rapier works pretty well on tds, i can get 32 kills in a >40 minute period (something between 35 and 40 minutes) which equates to about 48 kills per hour excluding banking. i don't have a longsword but am considering getting one because if it is actually superior, i might break 50 kills / hour

what's more important at tds is skill in switching, luring, etc

  13. I was wondering if using autohotkey and writing a script to clean herbs would be allowed?

I'd program it so that each click i press, it would clean a herb, so it would be 1 click for 1 action, but it still feels like cheating..

Like have 'q' for slot one 'w' for the next so i could just swipe across my keyboard and clean them all quickly

I've seen wakka's mousekey guide, but i'm still quite skeptical about what i read on the RS rules page

'Software that generates input to our game applets. This includes software that automatically moves the mouse pointer or generates mouse clicks or key presses.'

Point me in the right direction =P I won't bother if it's against the rules in some way

what you have to be careful of here is that you're saying each key would "clean a herb"

to do that you'd have to click and move the mouse with each keypress which isn't allowed

  14. Do you have a chaotic weapon? That's the only thing you neglected to mention.

Nope...slowly but surely getting enough pts but not there yet

which will you be getting? i'd hold off on tding until you get it since you're so close... well, you might not be i suppose. how many tokens off are you?
