so for a week I participated in the TSG slayer competition and discovered that kuradal is plotting to make staffs of light cost less. note: i got no whips or d bows during this comp

also been doing some clues lol

got an elite clue from starlight soloing. shortly after, these 2 guys came into the room and I thought they were going to try and crash or something, but they were there to kill the minis hunting for elite clues, lol. then a bit later they crashed me with ruby bolts :/ luckily sara is easy to hop at lol. no drops as usual :<

teh bstaffs are buying slowly. I'm lvl 94 atm but didnt screen last 2 levels. if anyone wants to buy some bstaffs for me just lemme know I'll buy as many as you have, thanks. :)

also decided I want divine ss so there'll be more of this coming

    100803142627.jpg

so right now I'm crafting and dungeoneering, and doing random chores like farming and shattered hearts and bork. might corp some too but I'm working on college applications so I don't want to compromise my future by scaping too much. idk what dung level I want but its fairly high. once occult or warped or whatever floors come out, the quality of dungeoneer doing the lower floors (the ones I'm stuck on :P) will probably decrease sharply, so I want to get as much advantage from them as I can

  2. How on earth do you make 2m/hr with skilling?

Farming herbs, picking trees, making (unf) pots, Puro-Puro if you have a decent amount of luck, making summoning scrolls (doesn't directly involve combat).

    So I'm reading:

    1. Farming, which is high hourly profit if you only consider time spent farming but bad daily profit.

    2. Luck from a minigame.

    3. Buying stuff from the GE and creating junk/items that will crash when people realize the price difference.

How about a SUSTAINABLE skilling method? I'm sure Puro Puro is good average cash, but it involves luck. Monsters like Frost Dragons involve no luck whatsoever. And when you add luck to monsterhunting, the hourly profits get crazy.

unf pots aren't junk lol, people buy them because they are too lazy to mix their own pots. it makes just as much sense for unf pots to cost more than their ingredients as it does for air orbs to cost more than glass orbs + 3 cosmic runes. I know for a fact that at least some of the time they are unbuyable

I also don't see how you're complaining about relying on luck in puro-puro, as literally almost every way of making money through combat is luck-based as well. dragons are really the only exception, and the only dragon that is substantially better than RCing is frost dragons. And sure they're better, but doesn't it make sense that they do? To make millions per hour there you need, in addition to 85 dungeoneering, 99 attack and strength, 89 herblore, 95 prayer, and 96 summoning. DOESN'T THAT BLOODY WELL DESERVE A LOT OF MONEY? That is 49.2M xp that must be gained in order to make these profits, much of it very expensive.

I guess it could be argued that skilling does not have the opportunity to use its various components together in such a synergistic manner, but oh well. RS has more players interested in combat than skilling, and I don't see why Jagex shouldn't cater to the larger group more than the smaller group. The difference is there, but it isn't so large as to be truly unfair.

  3. Trees are what i'm doing, and running toadflax every couple of hours. I'm doing yews because maples are slow xp, it's not a huge concern i think it's kind of evening out, but i just wondered if there are any other reasons besides maybe magic trees or something? I could just do herbs and basically never level farming because the xp is a bit rubbish is all \=

I've done nothing but pick torstols since level 85 and I've made tens of millions (lvl 89 atm). also, 9k xp in 5 minutes isn't very bad. In fact it averages to 108k xp/hr :P not to mention NICE profits

  4.

    Read: title.

Farseer vs Infinity. And Ahrim's degrades too, whereas Farseer and Inf don't which is my point for this thread. Otherwise Ahrim's wins >_<

I used Ah hood when I was killing rock lobsters so I could no pray them for longer back when it was possible to run out of energy at lobs so no proselyte lol.

tbh the only things I use magic for now are ice wyrms and rex, both of which call for a slayer helm. in safe pvp I'd still go with the hood. the degrading really is negligible lol.

between farseer and infinity I'd take farseer, because I generally do not melee while wearing mage helmets

didn't know healer hat was better though amg lol, I might need to get one

  5. I'd say RC by far ^^ You can't afk a single second of it, while you can semi-afk Slayer (reading a book, browsing forums etc)

You can only AFK slayer if you're content with getting 10k exp/h. Slayer is much more click-intensive than runecrafting if you're using turmoil, extremes/overloads, dragon claws, spec restores, a cannon, and a steel/iron titan.

you can afk dark beasts =p

  6. No Herblore. Herblore is extremely fast if you have the money.

Herblore takes about 40 hours and 325 mil gp using efficient potions and extreme potions (IE no cleaning of herbs, barbarian mixes, etc)

[spoiler=Calculations]extreme attack potions are one of the more efficient potions available atm

    they require 88 herblore and get 450k xp/hour at 25 gp/xp

19 hours and 216 mil gp

and before that its about 200k xp/hour but also at roughly 25 gp/xp

So lets assume you're not an epic merchant.

If you can hunt good bosses and earn just over 3 mil gp/hour, thats still about a total investment of 140 hours.

if you only make 2 mil per hour, that makes the skill take 200 hours

and 260 if you only make 1 mil gp/hour

agility can take as little as 160 hours if you train it smart.

Runecrafting is still about 250 hours with pure ZMI though

slayer can be done in under 300 hours with appropriate stats, and remember it nets you effigies (which can be spent on slayer, but we're assuming you dont) and alot of xp in combat skills.

I wouldn't underestimate the impact of the pricetag of herblore.

most monster hunters wind up becoming merchants in my experience lol

I wouldn't put any buyables on the list. For some people they are indeed very slow, but there is an increasing number of people who can accurately say that they value time at 10m or more gp/hr. And for these people at least, the buyables are most certainly not challenging.

I'll agree with the people who put RC at #1 even though it's faster than slayer, which is what I'd put at #2.

Dung really isn't dififcult. It takes more skill than other skills, but once you join a clan like DGE you still cruise through it at half an hour/floor (though getting teams can take some time too. that's why you keep battlestaffs and orbs in your bank). Doing it well takes practice, but so does hunting well and I don't see that anywhere.

mining is no more difficult than woodcutting or fishing now

  7. this lvl 4 was from jungle strykes

  8. Hello, just wanted to open a thread up to discuss the new range prayer and whether or not it makes the modern prayerbook useful enough to use over curses.

The major argument I see against the modern prayerbook is the lack of SS. However, the 50HP/min Heal-Over-Time prayer is actually a pretty good alternative IMO. Coupled with regen brace, you get 100HP/min H-O-T; over an hour, this is equivalent to the healing from 10 brews every hour.

I can see the modern prayerbook being more useful than curses for:

-- Armadyl: Arugable, depends on the strength of the range prayer and whether or not it's worth giving up SS

-- DK Tribriding: The major rate limiting step to tribriding (not 2.5-ing using Losing Games' method, I'm talking about the Prime(til 10%HP)-Rex-KO Prime-Supreme method) is killing prime.

    -- Slaying using ranged

-- Ranged PKers (I also wonder if they'll get a 2x Dbow spec because of the new ring). Dbow will also now be able to 1 hit people.

--Potentially even TD's (SS is hard to flick properly there, and requires a lot more extra practice and timing)

What I find interesting is that, if you will remember when Extreme's were first released, one of the major gripes of people, and one of the listed reasons for the removal of the potions from Pvp, is that the Dark Bow could 1-spec people. With the ranging prayer they'll be able to do that anyway, as you mentioned, so what will happen with this prayer? Kind of interesting to think about to be honest.

Not to pinpoint an entire thread to one specific point in a thought, but that is the first thing I see when I think of this along with the Dark bow.

you make the assumption that the new prayer will give more of a ranged boost than eagle eye :P didn't BTS only say it would give ranged and defense?

  9. Lol, about time somebody else opened their eyes to summoning.

Haul stuff sure, cast boosts & teles can-do, but kill stuff... nah go play WOW if you want familiars that can fight period.

Still waiting to get my 126 back on non-pvp worlds...

Get the feeling you don't have a steel titan o.O

Nope but I got an iron titan and it sucks ass.

Thought it might do some good in FOG.

Nah, you loose dps fumbling with the horrible inferface than switching melee/range or melee/magic.

Frankly they just pray away anything it can do anyway, wolpertinger boost is about the only thing I use.

Some level 70 noob with a rune 2h could do more damage than a titan, maybe they could let me summon that. :D

I'm the first to admit that the titan is crappy against anything with good defense aka players and most bosses. In return, I'd like you to acknowledge that it destroys things with low defense, providing a very significant boost while doing such activities as training slayer and, as it turns out, killing TDs.

  10. alternative crafting methods, like making dragonhide bodies? :P sorry but I know about 2 people besides myself who train with battlestaffs (they are, it is worth noting, extremely inconvenient as you can only buy 664 per day per account). they are only slightly faster than green bodies. they are an alternative, and it would appear one which has been overlooked by jagex.

  11. Currently, it is not possible to get shattered hearts rocks while crafting battlestaffs. I, for one, find this highly discouraging as I am planning to get 99 crafting by making battlestaffs and the knowledge that I will spend hours and tens of millions on crafting without getting any crafting rocks saddens me greatly.

It's just a bit weird that people trying to rush through the rocks by making gold amulets (which the Jargonex Corporation has stated is exactly what they did not want people to do) are able to get rocks, yet people just minding their own business training crafting to get the attractive brown and yellow 99 crafting cape to earn internet cred from one's fellow runescapers do not. Battlestaffs being a completely legitimate and serious way of training crafting, the lack of shattered hearts rocks to be found therein disturbs me.

My suggestion is to change this and make it possible to get shattered hearts rocks while making battlestaffs so that I can get shattered hearts rocks while I make battlestaffs.

Also, fairly extensive testing has, I believe, revealed that it is not possible to get smithing rocks by making dragon platebodies. I believe that this is also a great wrong but am willing to compromise on this one as long as battlestaffs begin to drop shattered hearts rocks as dragon platebodies are not exactly a serious way of training smithing.

  12. i wonder at what point corp soloers will have to worry about crashers, eventualy there will be a point where most non ls worlds have a corp soloer in them, probably if a chaotic spear gets released

it would be amusing to see what happens in a solo vs solo corp crash off

problem here is no corp soloer is a pushover so even if your totaly maxed and elite, the other guy is probably as good or better

also since corp tends to tank the one whos doing more dmg, then it would usualy be an even fight dmg wise with them both taking turms doing most dmg then getting tanked as the other does more dmg

now that would be truly amusing to see, bandos crash offs are only a few seconds of no fun at all, just a damage off while poor graardor doesnt know what to do

a solution to the bandos boss problem, and to future bosses would be instanced bosses, this would be a boss for every player and would avoid the "bottle neck effect"

sara solo is a lot easier than corp solo and last time I checked it's pretty easy to find worlds for that. :P unless corp becomes much easier people looking to solo are going to go elsewhere. right now sara is empty because it is more difficult than bandos and less rewarding than arma. corp is empty because it is waaay harder than anything else, and probaby not much more gp/hr than something like TDs because of the huge expenditures involved with supplies and probable deaths. I don't see any feasible update changing this.

anyways ontopic, it seems like the majority of people are of the curious opinion that getting there first gives you the right to kill the boss. i don't see anything unreasonable about the claim that it is not this, but the ability to kill the boss better than anyone else that conveys this right. it doesn't seem pigheaded to me, just logical.

  13. Slayer drops never excited me too much because slayer is a fairly mundane skill, albeit one that I have put a lot of time into. They come with more of a sense of satisfaction than excitement, at least to me.

Never had a drop at corp, but hilts still excite me :P

  14. For any activity where stats matter I wear fire/sw/ardougne 3, but the value of skill capes is, as everyone already has said :P is cosmetic. I wear them to level parties and events, or while training something like agility where nothing really matters L. And by them I mean almost exclusively the slayer cape.

  15. So the rapier is conclusively the best weapon for slayer/training whatever, and anything else with low def. TDs could probably go either way, GWD I assume you'd want CLS. And is the maul the best for pvp?

Rapier and maul are about even for PvP. The rapier is better for the "eat and spec" fighters, but the maul has the potential to be more effective if you are clever and risk more. The maul is absolutely devastating if you utlilize the "quick switch" bug by switching from a MSB to the maul and back (which also helps negate your opponent's Vengeance, which is a big problem when you hit as high as you do with the maul) and/or if you use a granite maul to spec after hitting a 600+.

Well my interest is PKing with as little risk as possible, L. So with cls/rapier + defender would you recommend a dds or are you just as well off w/o a spec weapon? And how do cls, rapier, and ags compare? I bought an ags during the crash but my friends said that it was considerably worse than a chaotic weapon so I just resold once it turned around. Was that the right thing to do?
