  1. IMO Jagex should work on improving and extending existing skills. There is plenty of scope to do this.

Reading through this thread there are really not that many suitable suggestions for a brand new skill, most are really just extensions of existing skills as follows :

    Summoning - extension of magic

    Necromancy - extension of magic

    Swimming - extension of agility

Husbandry (animal keeping) - extension of farming

    Dexterity - extension of agility

    Alchemy 0 extension to magic

Archaeology - already in the game (sort of) with Varrock museum

Riding - WILL NEVER HAPPEN as stated by Jagex on many, many occasions

IMO the only valid suggestions for new skills are :

Sailing - enable players to construct and sail their own ships. This would also enable Jagex to expand the game more with lands only acessible by water.

Engineering - although I fail to see the point of such a skill

of the 2, IF jagex want to create a new skill then my vote would go to Sailing.

  2. As people have said 75 mins is an average time, although I have never timed it. Normally I plant the seeds go away and do something else and come back to harvest when I feel like it.

However, your figures are flawed. If a crop gets diseased it will take longer to grow to maturity. You need to do your timings on those that don;t het diseased. Also your sample is way too small to arrive at a decent conclusion. Come back with figures when you have grown at least 1000 seeds.

  3. It seems that some people are agreeing with me.

However, I've just had a thought. It appears that those people. like me, getting a large number of randoms are those who are doing the same thing over and over, eg me killing Catablepons and Nick_6464 continuously alching.

So to those people who are not getting this apparent increase I ask one question - were you doing one thing continuously?

I also agree with Kashi that it could be one method Jagex has implemented to try and discourage macroers.

  4. The only way to get rid of macroers is to cut off their income source.

Two ways to do this are :

    1) Record every trade and ban every one sided trade, Examples being "gifts" of large amounts of GP or trades where someone pays millions og GP for a bronze dagger. The downside of this is that it would take a lot of resource to do and would end up with a lot of incorrect bans

    2) Ban player trading. All sales and purchases would have to be done via shops. Im sure that this would be really popular :-w

  5. Has anyone else noticed an increase in the number of randoms since the latest update?

I have been killing Catablepons in the Security Stronghold. In 3 hours I have got the following randoms :

    3 x Scaperune (balloon animals)

    1 x maze

    4 x MOM puzzle cubes

    1 x Freaky Forrester

1 X Leo the grave digger

    3 x Drill Sergeat

Thats approx 1 every 13 minutes. Perhaps I'm just unlicky. :wall: However can this be some sort of record?

  6. I supposedly got reported for scammimg (although I have no black marks). I was happily mining in my orange boater when this person comes up to me and asks me if I would sell my hat. I said not foe sale. Anyway he kept hassling to buy it, so in the end I said if he really wanted it that much he could have it for 3M. Now normally I find this tactic works and the person goes away. However, this guy says they are not woth that - reported for scamming and he kept pestering me. In the end I logged off went and got a coffe and logged back in - thank goodness he had gone!!

  7. Quite often. Ever since the advent of PC the number has increased dramaitically. However, I don't really look out for 126's especially as IMO they are overated, There are far too many pople with 126 combat and little other skills. I admire those with 2000+ totals more than 126 combat.

  8. [the root of the whole problem are not these gold farmers, its the buyers, if there are people willing to pay irl money for rs money there will always be these businesses that will satisfy this public demand, and these people will just move on to another game if all the buyers are removed

Quite correct. Remove the RL buyers and the sellers will go away and macroing/autoing/gold farming will end. That is why Jagex is concentrating on developing methods to identify RL traders and banning them.

and what is all this talk about communism, it has proven to be a failure

Ther is nothing wrong with the basic ideals of Communism, ie. everyone is equal. The problem is the competative nature of the human race to strive to be better than your neighbour. When discussing Communism I always refer back to a quote in "Animal Farm" which goes something like "all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others"

  9. MY pet hate is leetspeak. I cannot see the point of it. Anyone trying to use that when talking to me gets ignored.

I also agrre with a previous writer that the majoritory of the abbrevuations come from the younger generations use of texting eg m8, gr8, txt, u, wat. ty etc. etc. Mind you in a few years time some of these will probably be recognised a legitimate English words by the Oxford English Dictionary (some are already contenders).

  10. What do you think is the worst part of each skill? The time it takes to level? The cost of resources? The way you train it?

You just defined the skill Farming, completly unintentionally, nice work

Farming is all those ONLY if you sit and wait at the patches for your crops to grow. If done in the more logical way of plant - go do something else - harvest, it can be one of the fastest and least boring to level.

IMO Runecrafting fits the bill much better than farming.

  11. Depends on what you define as a "decent account". I consider my account "decent". I have the majoritory of my stats around 70-80, combat level of

You don't have to kill KQ on your own to get dChain. You can also get from Dust Devils (provided you meet the requirements). I go and kill a few when I feel like it and eventually I WILL get one.

In summary you just need patience and eventually you will get what you want. The problem is that a large proportion of the RS community (just like the RealLife community) are impatient and want items NOW and want to achieve this without working too hard to get them, It is these same people who would RWT or risk autoing just to reduce the effort needed. IMO it is also these people who are runing the game.

you don't et it, nobody is planning to spend 5 years to get 1600 total, of course its possible to get 2277 total, all stats at 200m xp, all 3d age sets ect, all on your own, I never said you cant do that. What I did say is that it would be extremely difficult (read what people say before you respond), and nobody in the game has gone on and gotten good stats and items without trading, that's why the economy is almost inevitable.

What I clearly said is that the only way you can avoid the economy is if you never trade or interact with anyone. If you read what I said before responding, you would have known that I never said anything about it being impossible, just extremely difficult and a waste of time. I don't even know why I'm responding to you :?

All I was trying to do was to point out that the economy is NOT the MOST important aspect of RS and not EVERYONE in RS relies on it which is what the opening statement in the article states. Different people play the game in different ways. To people like me the accessibility and availability of resources is just as important, if not more. So, rather than start flaming each other. let us just agree to disagrre and let other people be the judge on whose opinion is the most correct.

  12. A nice entertaining read, for the most part (I even laughed at the reference to bronze "rusting" :-w ) )

Howevr, I totally disgree with the premise of the second article which starts with the following sentence :

"The economy is by far the most important part of runescape, everyone is affected by it, and everyone relies on it, whether you buy your fish for pking, or you buy logs for 99 fletching, or you merchant for a nice mask."

IMO the RS economy is NOT the most important part of the game, it is just a small part of the overall experaince. It also goes without saying that not everyone relies on it (it's like saying all under 12's are immature and rude). People who play the game the way it was intended do not rely on the ecomony. Countering your examples some people actually catch their fish for pking, or actually cut their own logs for 99 fletching - this is the way the game was intended to be played. The economy and merchanting are really examples of the "emergent" gameplay scenario. I, and I am sure there are many more like-minded people, am in no way affected by the economy, if I want food, I catch it, or cook it, if I make something I either sell it to a store, or alch it (making money and improving Mage skill),if I want a whip I will work to get 85 slayer and then kill Abyssal Demons until I get one etc. etc. This gives me far more satisfaction then wasting my time standing in a bank yelling "selling xxx".

we all know you can do that, but, name me one person who has never made a single trade before.

I'm not saying that I don't trade. If I see someone wanting something I have in excess I will trade, but normally it is either single items (eg rune helm) or small amounts. Again this is the way the game was intended to be played, not people merchanting thousands of a single item to people who want a quick way to lev 99 in a skill.

How long do you think it would take you to get a decent account with decent items if you never trade?

Depends on what you define as a "decent account". I consider my account "decent". I have the majoritory of my stats around 70-80, combat level of 106, several sets of Rune armour, dragon legs and skirt, some 3rd Age Armour. 75% of quests done and around 4M in the bank. I agree its a hard slog to achieve this without merchanting (note merchanting NOT trading) as it has taken me around 4 years to achieve this. In fact if the game were any easier I would have quit ages ago.

you would need 97 smithing if you want full rune, kill kq on your own if you want a dchain, and do tens of thousands of lvl 3 clues if you want any 3rd age set.

You don't need 97 smithing to get full rune. Just kill the appropriate monsters. That way you not only get your precious Rune armour, but improve your combat skill stats. you will also increase other stats, eg. hernlore from the herbs these monsters also drop or farming from the seeds they also drop etc.etc. Plus, prayer from burying the bones and, of course, gold (which co-incidently a lot of people leave laying around).

You don't have to kill KQ on your own to get dChain. You can also get from Dust Devils (provided you meet the requirements). I go and kill a few when I feel like it and eventually I WILL get one.

I agree about the 3rd Age sets. At the moment I have one item from each set and I know it will take me a long while to get all three sets unless I am extremely lucky. However, when I do it will be another achievement that I can say I did by my own efforts.

In summary you just need patience and eventually you will get what you want. The problem is that a large proportion of the RS community (just like the RealLife community) are impatient and want items NOW and want to achieve this without working too hard to get them, It is these same people who would RWT or risk autoing just to reduce the effort needed. 14. IMO there is no sucj thing as a bad update. They are all good. That does not mean that I personally like all updates, some ore, IMO, pointless or simply annoying. However, there are people that think those updates I don't like are the best thing ever.

Just remember that you can't pleas everyone with a single update, there will always be someone who complains that a particular updae is useless.

  15. Nice list but there are corrections to make :

    - The closest furnace to a bank is Neitiznot (NOT port phasmasys, but its pretty close)

looking at the world map, the furnace in port phasmaty seems closer, since in Neitiznot you need to walk around.

I would like to contest the port phasmatys furnace: the one on the fremmenik isle Neitznot is one click away from the bank-you can see it in the corner of the screen while at the bank chest.
being one click away doesn't make it closer.

anyone want to go and count squares? :P

Neitiznot: 19 Squares and 1 click from bank to furnace.

    Port Phasmaty's: 22 Squares

The World Map isn't always accurate.

    ~Trumpet

You are all wrong. NEAREST bank to furnace is Shilo Village - 12 squares

However you do have to pay 20gp to enter. So perhaps we should have two categories here :

NEAREST FREE FURNACE TO BANK : Neitznot

NEAREST FURNACE TO BANK : Shilo Village

  16.

Making the game in Java. Making it in C could have made the graphics better. Even now if they'd change the game to C and just make a small program to convert all of the saved characters and their stats over to C, I believe the game could be better graphics and function wise. They could also remove common-click programs completely by just disabling the send methods used in Java... Or so I believe from what I've seen other C-based games do.

IMO making the game in Java was the BEST thing Jagex did. It means (as I have mentioned many times before) that the game can be played anytime anywhere, all you need is an internet connection and a browser on your PC. No big downloads, special graphics cards on your PC, high-speed internet connections etc. etc.

IMO opinion the biggest mistake is making the game TOO easy. Things like Cook X, tutors, Lumbridge bank, home teleports, PC. Icould mention many others, but the list would get too long. Bring back the days of RSC when the game was harder and didn't cater for 5 year olds.

  17. Quite interesting, but I wonder what drives Jagex to make new worlds for certain country's. :ohnoes:

Probably because its more cost effective to hire the servers in Holland. TBH it does not really matter where the servers are - after all this is the WORLD wide web and servers are accessible from anywhere in the world.

  18. Benn playing sinece RS2 started. I got membership after 3 months of F2P because I got bored with the limitations of F2P.

When will I quit? When I have maxed out every skill, got the maximum amount og gold in the bank, completed all the quests, got bored with the mini-games and have explored every single inch of the RS world. At my current rate of progress this means that I will quit somewhere around 2050, but I doubt either RS or myself will still be around then

  19. I can quite easily see why these "polite" newbs quit a short while after starting. It because most people in RS are rude and very unhelpful to newbs. I know this from experiance.

I suggest you try doing what I did a few months ago. Out of interest I created a new F2P character to see what peoples attitudes were the new players. So, fresh from tutorial island I landed in Lumbridge. There I tried to act as I did when I first started, 4 years (or so) ago, wandering as if lost and politely asking people questions about the game. Mostly just simple things like where can I find a mine, or a fishing spot. Also, just as I first started I started doing the Cooks Assistant quest and asked people for help with things like, where do I find an egg (this particularly stuck in my mind as at the time I just could not find one  ). I did this for about 3 hours, but all I got from 90% of the people around was torrents of abuse. It made no difference what their level was - nobody seemed to have the time to help a "newb". In the end, like many a newb I gave up and, in my case ended the experiment, but if I had been a true newb I would have given up the game and not returned.

Thsi is all in contrast to my treatment when I first started the game (in the early days of RS2). One player took time to give me a guided tour of Lumby castle and its immediate area, another player quite politely showed me where to get an egg, and one player even escorted me to Draynor to "protect" me from the Highwayman. All through my first few weeks on RS I met many people of all levels and 90% of them were polite and patient when I asked simple questions or asked for help with simple tasks.

So when people say that the old days were better, they actually were - at least in the treatment of newbs

  20. The problem with all this reporting is that it distracts Jagex from the real task of combatting bots and real world trading. My advice is before you report anyone for being a bot please be as sure as possible that they are. You must take into consideration that some people just do NOT want to be sociable or dress up in fancy clothes, or that there are people who only raise one skill. Before you report a suspected bot watch them for a while as the behaviour of a bot is ALWAYS repetative.

I believe that there was a good guide written on this forum with tips on how to spot a bot. I suugest anyone on this forum who is "report happy" to read this before making any more reports. IMO a guide like this should be in the Jagex Knowledge Base - it may prevent the multitude of false reports that Jagex must get every day.

  21. Glad to see Jagex taking actions.

Concentarting on Member's for autoers/macroers(??) should hopefully mean less annoyance for us memebrs. What about F2P? Well the situation in F2P is very different as it is very quick and easy to create new accounts to replace banned ones. At least in members, you can't play until you have paid Jagex in some way - this means that they have records and could quite easily refuse accounts on their "black list" The only way Jagex will ever be able to make impact in the F2P world is not by taking direct action against the autoers, but by rooting out the real world customers of the autoers. Removing this customer base will result in removing the autoers (and gold farmers for that matter).

  22. A little known fact.

A lot of applications only register and check the first 8 or 12 digits of a password, so the length of the password is usually irrelevent. So if your password is say, "password 123rthgykmnf" you might think it was safe but the chances are that only the word password will be checked by the application.
