the computer is OEM form compaq. Already cease production i suppose.. a couple of years old.. but still running and gd enuff to play rs.. I ever though of flashing the bios but i do not know where can i get an updated bios files.. i do not wan to risk wrongfully flash it and the whole mbb gone.. unless i can do a hard reset (meaning jumper reset). I know some stuff relating to the pc.. but i have yet to try them out myself.. :D Anyone can suggest where can i get a bios update? a webby or something.. Appreciate that.. :wink:

Have a question, need some comment plz.. thankz :) If a system can only detect the maximum harddisk size 20gb (old system), what will happen if i insert another hdd, say 40gb? Will i spoil the 40gb hdd if i continue to use it even though the sytem does not recognise the hdd as 40gb.. and instead sees it as a 20gb hdd? Pls comment.. thank you very much!! :P

hmm.. since heat is not a problem.. and u mentioned that ur computer has always been unstable. Is your computer OEM or DIY? Ways the pc can hang will harddisk fault, for example mulitple bad sectors which causes corrupt data. Another i can think of will be faulty ram.. Correct me if i am wrong. Data when flows to the ram slot, its being diverted randomly among the modules found on it.. If u look @ the ram, there are afew black square chip-like stuff on it... looks like below. ______________ | (1) (2) (3) (4) | -------------------- Say, the 2nd module is faulty. When data is being randomly diverted to that module, information cannot be processed and hence causing computer to hang.

i suppose u have installed the latest java? uninstall it and use back the normal ones.. its not necessary to get the latest java update..

strangely, pple train on iron while its soooo popular.. perhaps due to RSC where powermining works.. I trained mining on gold rox.. coz gold rox offer better exp per rox and there is no crowd.. i did it @ crafting guild though... if its busy, change server.. there is bound to be 1 server where crafting guild has no pple.. so juz mine and mine.... i always gave my gold ores away willingly to contenders.. tats how i get 60mining and started mining away in guild.. 80 mining now.. all via coal and iron and mith as i am raising smithing level.. cheerios folks..

i believe u can play rs before u did some updates right? what are those? I cannot play rs when i install the latest java.. in the end i juz uninstall the latest java and made some other adjustment to the rs site and everything is back to normal. i am using winxp and its default IE. The crucial part is select the applet when u are @ the "detail or not so detail" selection page. Pm me if u need more help.. i am a survivor from this java thingie.. :)

Give us these following specs: -processor speed -Ram size and clock speed -age of comp -what kinda program u have installed in ur computer -operating system used -what programs did you open before your computer hung Are u using Fat32 file system or NTFS? If u are on Fat32, did you defragment ur harddisk regularly?

:shock: How true is that? do u have proof that ur bank and stats get whipped if u fail to log in 6 to 7 mths?

Wow.. cool.. its realli very informative.. as that machine is an OEM Cpu from Compaq, it does not carry any more support to whatever hardware present in the computer. Hence i deduce bios upgrade is the only way.. risky step.. anyway to back up bios ? I remember there are methodology in flashing bios.. by downloading from the manufacturer website and load it into floppy diskette. Will there be a hardware reset for bios? I am willing to try but @ the same time i am worried that it might not work.. :roll:

its being suggested to format the computer every 3 months.. so as to reset ur registry and blah blah blah.. Dude, maybe u can give some comment about ur problem that prompted u to format ur comp.. u need an array of installation disk ready before u do so.. stuff like operating system disk.. ur graphic card installer.. ur Internet service pack.. etc etc.. I once formated my computer even without preparing an OS installer.. :lol:
